      So much about social interaction is just a decision. If you can master the ability to stop and truly give someone your undivided attention and interest and curiosity and respect, and they will physically open to you, they'll share their most honest reflections, their truest self. People can tell when you're truly listening and watching them and giving them honest feedback, and when you're just waiting for them to stop talking so you can start talking. My entire life people have praised my ability to have instant emotionally honest communication with anyone around me, regardless of age or race or even language. People act like it's some kind of mind trick, but it's just a genuine interest and curiosity. An intelligent person can learn many things even by interacting with an unintelligent person. This whole thing kinda supports the idea that the best listeners are the best communicators.

      Herc11355 I think we could say that SF are the only soldiers that trully fight terrorism directly and they will be the first ones to be there when fan hits the shit. War now days is unconventional (insurgency, terrorism, intel, etc.) and these guys cover for it.

    • @dylanfarnum4121
      @dylanfarnum4121 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emilianoaguilar3096 I see what you're saying about SF guys being the tip of the spear, but to Herc's point, SF groups can be and are routinely used in 'immoral' ways. Meaning if the US military is being used unethically, as a way of illegally occupying the middle east to protect it's oil interests, then the high speed SF units over there are simply a more experienced better equipped tool, a better weapon for less than honorable intention. Unfortunately in the recent past, let's say the last 10-15 years, a lot of the most respected elite units themselves have become known for amoral acts and war crimes and such. The development group, aka seal team 6, famously 'canoed' UBL as a type of war trophy hunting game engaged in by the most skilled operators in JSOC. In several instances the CIA SOG operatives of omega team clashed with the devgru guys when they would unnecessarily go for kills and 'war trophies ' instead of going for the easier and less destructive capture of the target, which incidentally decreased our humint. In case you're wondering why I put war trophies in quotations, I did so because traditional war trophies, like ears, fingers, scalps etc are all physical things that the warrior would remove and take with him. In the case of seal team 6, they would do what they called 'canoeing' someone, which is when you shoot a downed enemy right at the top of the forehead, and it blows out the top of the skull and caves in their forehead in a V shape. The devgru operator that famously was the second man to engage UBL, came into the room after he was already down, and the man shot him 3 additional times in the head, intentionally to canoe him.

    Another point to saving private Ryan:
    When they did the first screenings of it, they took world war 2 veterans to see how close it was to real life. My granddad was one of those lucky first to see that movie. Before the movie was over, most of the men had left the theatre. It was so real, one gentleman had a panic attack and had to be brought to the hospital. The closest point to my heart this podcast has brought up in a long time was today when Joe Rogan was noting the benefit they did for the Intrepid Center for Excellence and how he was so pissed off that this was a thing we need to *raise* money for.
    I joined the military when my ‘brain wasn’t fully formed’ as Joe would put it. So I always assumed with all the tens if not hundreds of billions or even trillions we invest into defense and military spending, that no man would get left behind. Fortunately for me, I got through my deployment unscathed, but a many of my battles (friends and comrads) have had to struggle and work hard for the little bits of assistance they can get from the government. How are we the most powerful country in the world when we can’t guarantee lifetime healthcare for ALL of the men and women who put their life on the line for our country? Why should 20 year olds return from combat and still have to figure these things out on their own?
    I’m sorry for the long winded reply and posting multiple times but it’s one of those things where every time I’m reminded about the struggles the guys I’ve known who have lost their lives, had horrific injuries, or even just had to live through hell, it just fucks my head up and I get emotional. My point is that we’ve been through Bush, Obama, and Trump since I went through basic, and I’m still hearing horror stories of homeless war vets and widows who can’t get the support they need. Again, there’s probably a better forum for this but hearing Rogan go into this really hit a nerve for me.

      I’ve never been through the training or the war, but I think everyone can agree the training can’t hold a candle to the real thing.

    I found it amazing when both Joe and Trevor were talking about the feeling of sharing a meal and having provided this meal via hunting, sharing their hunted products aka meat with friends and family. Sort of triggered something that goes back to communal living and hunter gatherer lifestyle. Humans are social animals, we need social interaction and shared experience. We now live in societies where we spend an inordinate amount of time with electronic forms of communication, while craving human interaction. Both gentleman shared the feelings that were triggered by being in groups and more important, removed from electronic interference. I think we are neglecting this human need to share and be part of a group, too many are alone and lonely in this ever evolving social experiment we call life!
