I do love Jennifer! But this isn’t the same key. It’s been lowered significantly. Which is totally understandable. She suffers from MS which I believe plays a factor. But she is incredible.

You could have therefore writen "for her to be able to run the marathon is amazing".....when she isnt running a marathon in this video. I've heard Jennifer sing this song dozens of times and she never fails to give me goosebumps. What a performer! I feel as if she never really got the credit she deserved. In my mind, however, she is perhaps one of the greatest RnB singers of her time. Thanks for sharing this!

It’s amazing, it’s almost like she becomes a vessel of the song…overseeing its perfect delivery, her effort will NOT be denied!!! She is one of one. So, why in hell did they ignore Carol Channing and replace her in the Hello Dolly movie with a girl in her 20's who gave an underwhelming performance? Why wasn't Jennifer Holliday, the Tony Awarded actress considered for her role in Dreamgirls, the movie? That her younger substitute got an Oscar for her underwhelming performance is still Hollywood garbage.

I saw her perform this on Broadway in the summer of 1981, it was a complete show stopper.
It was a showstopper 8 times a week. The "funniest" part of the story 8s that during rehearsals for Broadway, she quit the show and went back to Houston. Producer David Geffen and Director Michael Bennett flew to Houston to beg her to come back. Well, she did, after David gave her a two record contract to Geffen Records.
I just can't stop shedding happy tears!! This woman absolutely deserves her flowers, especially while here on this Earth. Thank u, Tamron, for such a lovely guest/legend!! 😂🎉

I remember watching her perform this live over 20 years ago and I remember people were crying. That's the level of truth and feeling that Jennifer Holiday infuses into this song. Nobody does it better! She is a showstopper and when she sings this.. it just stops everything in your life and makes you cheer for Effie and it's hard to describe but when you experience Jennifer Holiday sing this song live, there is no doubt as to who created this role. She literally brings people to tears because there's just a place Jennifer Holiday takes this song that no one else can take it. It's not just the notes, it's all these things that may look or sound weird on video but when you're watching her on stage live, you look around and so many grown men are crying and that's to say nothing of the women who just let it go because there's an Effie White in every woman and Jennifer brings it out. She demands respect when she sings this song, but you find yourself sympathizing with her. She's very unique and I feel she's very under- rated because no one sings like this lady. Jennifer Holiday created this role and this song was not written to be a "pretty" song. It takes a woman to sing it and the woman must lay bare her soul. Jennifer Holiday does it every time and she never sings it the same way twice!
