  • Interviewed in this episode is Schemanun Eupraxia, a nun from the Convent of Saint Elizabeth the Grand Duchess of Russia, and an Instructor at the Seminary for the New Testament courses.
In this first part of a two-part interview, Mother Eupraxia explains what a nun is, how nuns are different (and similar) to laypeople, and some common misconceptions the world has about monasticism.

Her analysis of the monastic's role in uniting man with God and reconciling creation with God, through repentance, obedience, battling the passions and prayer for the world, was profound.

I look at Anna The Prophet as the first example of a Monastic Nun. She is the last Old Testament Prophet and first prophet mentioned in the New Testament. She livedand prayed in the Temple. A wonderful example of a woman in service to the Lord.

Wonderful discussion. The Grand Duchess Elizabeth, has been a hero of mine for years. Wow. I appreciate your explanation of your role in the world too. My husband and I were stateside missionaries to street people years ago. We couldn't get other believers to understand that we were NOT social workers. It was always about Christ. Good deeds are part of daily living, but the salt & light of a prayer warrior, of those whose devotion to the Word of God is stronger than anything else - that is how the Lord works. Hubby is in heaven now. My hope is to somehow build a home for sisters dedicated to the same things. I'm not Orthodox, still learning about all that. But no longer in the Prot. camp and grateful the trappings of RC didn't capture me either. Orthodoxy is difficult to pursue (outside of TH-cam!), only one such church in town, a long walk from home. Now I'm elderly and have no car. Spend my time writing commentaries on books of the Bible. And encouraging people I run into around town, to stay faithful. Thanks for all your work.

Dear sweet daughter of Christ. If you reach out to your local Orthodox church, perhaps they would have someone who would pick you up and bring you to services.

So informative but I wish the subject of the semi-eremetic nun was discussed. Not everyone is called to a monastery.

monastic vows are vows of chastity. virginity, innocence, chastity, purity are qualities everyone has from yhe beginning of their existence. monasticism is about preserving them
