In our area, guerilla-planted saplings without using a substantial tree guard are very vulnerable to being consumed by wild animals such as deer. Have you any thoughts on whether planting acorns direct might have a greater chance of survival?
Christopher X Awesome, do it! I haven’t decided about the tree guards, I know I ought to for maximum yield and will probably experiment in the spring by guarding half and leaving the others - I will let you know how it goes. Nice work Jamax! Pretty cool seeing that you've used very similar techniques to myself (water test, growing them in bags and bottles etc). I know life can get in the way, but I'd love to see your progress...if in about 5 years down the line on the seeds you planted in the groves, you could do another follow up video and see whether they're becoming established or not. In autumn, some years there are many, other years there are none. Oaks and other species have ‘mast years’ in theory to keep populations of acorn eating things in check. You’ll be able to tell in the summer what is growing. They grow so easy

I think it does not matter how you plant the sprouted seeds or nuts the roots will always go down and leaves up once they are in
