I absolutely LOVE this piece! No one does a paint wash like you Jonathon. The color combo's that you choose are phenomenal. Stunningly beautiful!! Thanks for the lovely tutorial!
One of my absolute favourite Chalk Painted pieces of yours or anyone else's, hands down. The layers, colours, and techniques made this humble piece a showstopper.
GORGEOUS! GORGEOUS! ❤❤ Everything about this piece that you’ve created 👍such talent just ❤ Everything you do . Have an Awesome day Jonathon can’t wait for your Nxt video 😊
Once again I learned soooooo much and got to see you save a dreary piece of furniture. I find myself hearing your words when I'm debating about my next step on my project. As always thank you bunches.
I just have to add one thing! The TEXTURE in that closeup of the top at the end is absolutely breathtaking!!!! I am a lover of all things textured and old and you knocked this out of the park!!! It’s amazing what the results can be from a combination of such simple , yet impactful techniques! It’s like the perfect recipe. And that fly speck all over in the three different tones really takes it over the top! 🙌🏻 🙌🏻 🙌🏻
I love this. Adding texture is something I’m interested in and I like how you added a subtle texture to the piece without using any texture additives. Thanks for sharing.
Jonathan, thank you so much for filming the entire final finish. It allows us to truly feel as though we're standing right next to it, this is the only way to be able to appreciate all of the amazing texture and colour details. Another work of art that would fit perfectly in my home, the colours are lovely and I love the soft curves.
Oh thank you very much Jacqueline for taking the time to write such a lovely comment I really appreciate it and I’m so happy that you enjoyed watching happy painting 😊❤️🙏
I love your channel, so brilliant! Would you do a full tutorial on layered stenciling please. I want to achieve the hand painted look using stencils, and then hand painting on top. I love how Annie Sloan uses bits and pieces of the stencil to make her own pattern.
Thank you Jonathon for another amazing tutorial packed with so many wonderful ideas and techniques. I always feel I can achieve a similar outcome on my pieces.Your way of teaching and demonstrating it truely amazing. I love this piece 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey thank you very much of course you could stop at any level throughout this tutorial are use each technique individually thank you very much for the compliment
I really enjoyed this one, I've used little craft sponges before with small projects but now I'm going to get a larger one and use and give it a go, Annie Sloan's blues are my favourite colours they are truly beautiful and I've used the duck egg a few times, lovely finish
I have a sideboard and china cabinet in this kind of style and wood. I have been considering painting them, so you have given me great inspiration! Lovely!
This is absolutely beautiful! I’ve been watching you and sharing your videos for the last couple of years and you never cease to amaze me. The amount of thought you put into each process you add, as well as understanding what each layer is going to do to the next is what I aspire to do. No one would ever suspect this piece had just been painted. It truly looks like years of layering with history. Sharing!
Jonathon, you've done it yet again! I have been waiting to makeover a vintage sideboard for my formal dining room but haven't been inspired by anything until today. This will look great with the modern farmhouse theme I was going for! Thank you so much for your ongoing inspiring and beginner friendly videos!!!
🥰👍I loooooove texture. I am also using this kind of a sponge a lot and always iked the outcome but now I know I have definitely to enhance my thechnique 🤭 Your piece is breathtaking!!!! Love it
You are just amazing. I absolutely adore your laid back, easy going approach when faced with those unexpected little challenges that pop up. Your lovely attitude and approach to painting, as well as your legendary techniques, is what sets you apart in my eyes…it’s also exactly what inspired me to set aside my doubts and fears and paint my very first piece to begin with…and it remains my inspiration to this day. Every time I’m faced with a challenge and ready to throw both my paintbrush and the piece I’m working on across the room, those same words of yours that gave me the courage the first time always come right back to my mind-“Be bold, be brave.” And then I am. So thank you.🙏🏼💜💜💜
Jonathan, I absolutely love how you transformed that sideboard! The colors are just lovely - you have such a good eye for color! You’ve inspired me to try some of these techniques on yet another secretary I have in addition to the rickety one you advised me on. I’m excited to get started on it! Thank you for another excellent tutorial! ❤
Dear Jonathon thank you for the useful tutorial.I would like to ask you if between the layer of duck egg blu and the first layer of olive ,you put a layer of varnish or shellac or wax in order to avoid blending.
Great question and the answer is no after the first layer of duck egg the bleedthrough vanished it tends to be quite good when it’s a darker colour with a touch of green in and the overall and product the shows no sign of the bleedthrough so there was nothing to worry about in the end 😊😊😊
That sponge is our new secret texture technique. It absolutely gave the ground work for an eggshell looking finish. I'm getting one for sure. I'm not clear on how dry the paint was between coats or before you waxed. I love how you get to squirt paint in your shop😆 but it's always tidy in there. This is another tutorial I'm saving as it applies to a project I'm working up to--my dining room set. I'll be using duck egg blue and coco wash and trying the IOD paint inlay "grisaille toile". I was considering the inlay you used on your gorgeous sideboard/buffet as I love the orange tones in it but this other is so pretty too and gives my skill/confidence level a gentle nudge rather than a shove 😆 lol. I'm going to add the 2 speckling techniques you showed as well. Once I have the paint just so should I topcoat it then use AS lacquer to set in the inlays? I think that's what you did. I'll watch that tutorial again. Thanks Jonathan this piece turned out really well. I like it lots and lots and I liked learning lots too. You have a happy day sir! OH--we would never tell Mr. M if you needed to temporarily "borrow" a product bottle. Hmmm...could be the beginning of an April Fools joke😘
You always do such a beautiful job with color and technique. Could you share what type of brushes are your go to? I love the sponge and short bristles for a specked look!
This was (yet, another) fantastic tutorial! I have never been the most huge fan of more neutral colored pieces until I found you and your techniques. The way you create SO much interest on each and every piece is amazing! I always learn something new and save all of the videos to refer back to so that I can pull some of those techniques on my own pieces. You have “up’ed my painting game” majorly! And I’ve found a whole new appreciation for more subtle colored pieces because you make them so beautifully aged and interesting! Thank you for all you do for the painting community, Jonathon! Can’t wait to try my sea sponge to create a canvas coat! 😏😍💕
I love this, Jonathon!! Such a stunning color! I love blue-green colors! 🙂 Question...have you ever used Annie Sloan Wax on any other type of paint before? I'm curious if it feels any different using over AS Chalk Paint versus over any other type/kind of paint. I used AS Wax over DIY brand clay-based mineral paint on my antique makeup vanity and it really doesn't feel soft or buttery smooth. Is it any different using it over her chalk paint? Hope you hear from you soon! You're incredible! 🫶🏻
That’s a great question I probably have at some point but I cannot remember the outcome I think maybe some of the other paint brands are slightly different to chalk paint Annies paint is very absorbent and it will absorb the wax into the substrate rather than just sitting over the top that might of been why it felt different 🥴😊😊
I have the same experiences with the Spray Bottles, the old product bottle, like Windows Glass Cleaner Bottle, is hands down better than the "Purchased Bottles", they all seem have a flaw. Mr M, no grumpies. lol

Well no happy accidents here :( I watched the video over and over, my piece sat up on stilts for weeks before I finally had the courage to jump in. I really took my time, used the same colors as here, sponging easy enough, blending even impressed me, ( i had to make Olive using navy and orange) but the color wash totally flopped... you know how it always looks so scary when you add a color wash all over? Now i know why.. i have to figure out what happened before I can move on. The piece is a mottled mess.
