I was always taught that the head should be based from a circle and yea it technically does since the skull is round but using boxes instead makes drawing heads in perspective so much easier! It also saves time of remembering stuff that would only happen in certain angles like the cheek being more pronounced in others while some not. I’ve been drawing the head for 3 years now but still inconsistent at it. This would help a heck ton!
Same, circles just haven't worked for me. It gotten to the point I stop using it and just wing it because I see no improvement in consistency. I will try boxes now
George B. Bridgeman: Constructive Anatomy. He's the guy who taught the box method. It's a good book to own and reference, but I think there are better ways to learn it as it's mostly illustrations and some people find it hard to translate directly from the book to practice.

Realize that the entire process of becoming great is based on baby steps, and little by little we'll reach new heights that were not possible before! Good luck ! Usually the first 2 months in any discipline you'll get extremly noticeble improvements. beyond that, it becomes slower and slower to notice, the progression curve gets less visible than before BUT, progression will be there as long as you try new stuff. so keep it up
same. the first few you see quick improvement especially if you know where your flaws are and how to overcome them the rest then comes with practice. keep drawing everyone :]
It all makes sense now. The reason why I gave up art was because I gave up on improvement because the whole reason I started drawing in the first place was to get better. And I had no motivation because I thought that no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn’t be good enough and that made me wonder what the point of it was. What I’m saying is that I think I can get better and I feel motivated to do what makes me happy again.
As someone who gave up on drawing a few years ago due to a few reasons, I find your video series on how to draw amazing. When I remember back when I was actively trying to get better there weren't any good artists that would explain how they did things, so you going out of your way and explain how you do things is amazing to watch. Who knows, maybe I'll start drawing again because of these videos.
Your art improvement from 2018 to now is insane! I always drew from intuition, so my skills mostly improved slowly through the years. Seeing such progress in such short amount of time is crazy! Really inspires me to apply myself to nurture my skills instead of just leaving them at whatever level they came naturally. Se how far they can go with real practice. Will be checking more of your tutorial and art, awesome stuff man.

I am no where near being an actual artist. However, I've been learning how to rig in live 2d, and the hardest thing I've encountered so far is making the face look right. Whenever I implement the XY movement of the face, it just doesn't look right. And this tutorial is actually helping me and giving me ideas on how I should implement these features! Especially the box method!

The trick I use when drawing is to find an picture that I want to draw, save it to the iPad and then increase the screen brightness. Now when I put the white paper on the iPad, the black lines will appear clearly, help me to draw a picture almost similar to the one that i found :))
23 year old artist here who is also stuck in begginer’s hell. Seeking for a way to become profesional without having to go to an art college (because there aren’t any where I live) I’ll be doing the same thing as you. Retiring to sketches and practices before going back to main art. For the next two months at least.
I HAD THAT SAME ISSUE A FEW MONTHS AGO!! For me it finally clicked when I just followed the box method alongside keeping track of the cheekbones relations to the entire head. Most importantly for me, was the positioning of the eyes and where it was suppose to face the subject. For references, Mika Pikazo art definitely helped me understand how to draw the head in a concise way as I pay attention to the the way she drew the cheekbones along with the chin which defined the shape of the face. Also I didn't know you had a youtube channel ive beena fan of your art in twitter for a while now keep up the good work!

i remember when i was starting to draw like anime stuff and the first ever me doing that just by drawing faces. it really does took a long journey until im really used to it, but now im just learning how to draw anatomy, such a long and fun process

I want to get into art, but every time I see someone draw on an application on PC I get confused. For example at 3:35 are you drawing with your mouse? Or do you have like a drawing tablet connected to your PC? Any insight would be really helpful! I want to be able to eventually draw like you as well someday
Little late but he probably uses a drawing pad, I recommend get decent and understand what your drawing on paper then get a drawing tablet because good ones can be very expensive.

It's all about perspective, and the best way to learn perspective is drawing boxes.

I just cry. You show me how simple it is, yet I can't even draw the cubes the way I see them or draw a straight line. I hate myself.

I want to get into art, but every time I see someone draw on an application on PC I get confused. For example at 3:35 are you drawing with your mouse? Or do you have like a drawing tablet connected to your PC? Any insight would be really helpful! I want to be able to eventually draw like you as well someday
Little late but he probably uses a drawing pad, I recommend get decent and understand what your drawing on paper then get a drawing tablet because good ones can be very expensive.
