The building also served as the offices for the various administrative departments responsible to the Secretary at War, which would eventually become formalised as the War Office. Also located at Horse Guards was the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Forces. Hence, for many decades the term 'Horse Guards' was used as a metonym for British Army headquarters. It is now the office of the Major-General Commanding the Household Division and General Officer Commanding London District. Horse Guards subsequently became the headquarters of two major Army commands: the London District and the Household Cavalry.

If you notice with the girls, they had an older man with them who suggested thy call the guard 'Sherlock'. I don't know if he was with the group or not, but he seems to be encouraging them on. The girl who quickly poses behind him, may be at a distance, but the danger is horses can bolt so all are asked to go behind the bollards for their own safety when the horse and guard swap over. The building is called Horseguards and is actually the military HQ of the Household Cavalry, that alows public access most days. The sign says 'Beware. Horses may kick or bite. Do not touch the reins' Thank you.
As the horse is being redirected into the box, one woman in the courtyard isn't behind the safety line and I think tries to go through the box as the horse is lead in. The other woman tries to go through the box at the front, which no one should do when it's open both sides, especially when there's a 1000lb horse and rider coming through!

I have seen a recording of this before where you could hear what the American girls were saying. They were trying to wind the guard up. One says, “Call him, ‘Sherlock’”,
Presumably referring to Sherlock Holmes’s. Why they thought that would be funny, I don’t understand. But that’s what they did, shouting “Hey, Sherlock, you’re Sherlock” and laughing.
On another video a group of Orthodox Jewish males, in their long black coats, pigtail hair and black hats, shouted abuse at the guard for being a soldier and quoted verses from the bible.
They also were ordered to leave and escorted out, followed by the police to be sure that they didn’t do the same to the guards on horseback outside.
The horse guards are happy for visitors to stand beside them to have photo’s taken, even stroke the horses. But the notice says, ‘Do not touch the reigns’.
But they still do. In one case a woman grabbed the reigns and was shouted at by the guard, “Get off the reigns”. Which made her jump back. Her husband then complained to a police officer, that he didn’t like the way his way had been shouted at and the guard was rude.
The police officer told him that she was lucky just to be shouted at, because the horse could well have bitten her and she would have been more upset by that.

It is very busy with traffic, buses and taxis along with thousands of tourists. The noise and bustle that the horses put up with is huge.

The Chinese are 'out in space', so to speak, and the Hasidim are incredibly, incredibly, rude. European teenagers can get kind of 'excited', too! Overall though, I'm actually proud of the way most Americans conduct themselves there and I'm glad I'm not alone. 🙂

Those young women harassing were a group of ISRAELI Americans. Part of a larger group there that day. Day after day, the Israelis would take over a huge corner and claim it as their own and mock, ridicule and intimidate the King’s Guards in boxes. Always obnoxious and always moved on by Police.
This location is on Whitehall. This is Horseguard’s a Military Barracks owned by The Ministry of Defence.
That whole area is Government. No 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister and no 11 Downing Street, the residence of The Chancellor of The Exchequer are basically next door. The Police at Horse Guard’s are fully armed because they too are working for The Ministry of Defence.
A lot of these troops (army) have served in Afghanistan, Iraq etc and should be respected, not treated like Disneyland actors entertaining the crowd.
At Disneyland, you pay, here, it is free but not obligatory for the public to just walk around and run into horse boxes with horse and guard in as I saw yesterday. Foreign tourists all want a picture of themselves next to the Horses and grab hold of the reins frequently. This is like grabbing the steering wheel in someone’s car. The Guards only have one hand to steer these stressed out horses as it is and many of them bolt onto the pavement so this is why the Guards or Police shout at tourists when needed. All tourists care about is themselves and their pictures.

You're quite right. I've now watched a lot of these videos. It's not just Americans, you'll be pleased to hear, that are rude and disrepectful to the King's Guards. Sadly they come ifrom many countries, trying to make the Guards respond, which is against protocal. On rare occasions a Trooper will respomd.by shoutimg something like Make Way For The King's Guard, if they get in the way. Or Do not touch the King's Guard! if they try to touch or get too close. The mounted troopers will also yell Don't Touch the reins! when people do. The Guards do not step aside, for people, they will just push through. Incidentally the horses are also called Troopers. Sometimes a horse will get too disturbed by so many tourists and get very restless, even dangerous.. They will be led off and replaced when that happens. As long as all is well, they are changed every hour on the hour. But don't worry, there are armed policed around to sort out disturbances, even to arrest when necessary.

The facility is Ministry of Defence property. Horse Guards is the historical H.Q. of the British Army. It is staffed by members of the senior regiment of the British Army, the King's Lifeguards, comprising the Lifeguards themselves, and the Blues and Royals. This summer they will be relieved for a few weeks by the King's Royal Horse Artillery. When not on ceremonial duties they are an armoured regiment, deployed in tanks and other armoured vehicles. The singer James Blunt was a second lieutenant in the Life Guards and was in the front line of U.N. military action in Kosovo during the Balkans conflict.
If it's any comfort there are a number of groups at the forefront of disrespecting the King's Lifeguards, and the U.S. citizens are probably not the current worst. I think you are right about mobile phones.

Yes, people at any event, be it a tourist place, a live concert, etc, will spend more time trying to video it rather than watch it for the actual experience it should be for them . . . There are a few camera people on YT from London that video the guards very regularly, some probably daily even, Connor. And you won't believe some of the things they've captured on them either . . . 2 of the horses - almost well-known by now - are regular biters, hence the warnings. I've watched people on them grabbed by arms, shoulders and hair, simply because they ignore the signs. Grabbed by the arms or shoulders, they can often get flung about like puppets . . . You'll see people actually slapping a horses face if one gets too near them - all down to their own fault of course, due to them getting too near to the horse . . . Quite a few people have actually been arrested for some of their stupid acts - which was nothing but right, too . . . Sometimes a horse may not be happy one day and go a bit nuts, and those too near to it will definitely get a fright when that happens . . . I know that it may not be very photogenic or picturesque - but I do wish they put chain barriers up in front of those on the horses to keep the morons far enough away from them though . . .
Yes, there are sometimes disrespectful Americans, but then there have also been been the same with French, Spanish, Jewish, and others from many other countries as well (likely including some of our own morons, too!) - all captured on their videos - as to them, as tourists, it's only a show and they are performing for "them", and what they think "they! can do is the only right thing and so is allowed . . . There have even been various people trying to go through the guards box (as seen on here) - but even while the horse and guard were actually inside it and on duty . . . The Kings Guard, and others, when marching, do not stop if you're in their way - you will be knocked aside if you are stupid enough to be standing in their way! I mean it's not like you can't hear them coming in their boots, and they even call out "Make Way" - but hey, you can't help idiots . . . If you ever watch any of our military marching - be it changing of the guard, or trooping the colour, etc - if the marchers have to stay in formation following horses, and then have to walk through any horse crap to do that - then they'll just as easily walk through any stupid people who are in their way as well . . .

    • @monicawarner4091
      @monicawarner4091 หลายเดือนก่อน

@KGardner01010 • If you've seen any videos of the horses getting spooked by something, you'll realise why putting up a chain or any other physical barrier, in front of the horses, is a very bad idea. It could cause serious injury to both the horse and rider, as well as the tourists if a panicking horse was to crash into it. The boxes are also on a public thoroughfare controlled by the Local Authority, and can't be blocked. I don't, however, see why a line painted on the pavement to show people not to get too close to the horses can't be used instead.
When it comes to disrespectful tourists, I've found that the ones from the USA are generally very polite. Sadly, it's the ones who are morons that stick in the mind. The worst behaved ones I've seen, even worse than some of the Hasidic Jews, were a British family of four. The parents and one of their young sons were clearly taunting the Guards so that they could film their reactions, and the son's swearing at the Guard shocked even me. Apart from a few notable exceptions like these, it seems to be European teenagers on school trips that are the worst. 🙂

This is Horseguards, it was once the entrance to Buckingham Palace, that's why the Guards are there.

Wish more of the tourists were like you Connor. The warning signs have had to be put up as people take liberties. You were spot on when you said you thought people cared more about showing where they are than enjoying the experience. Don’t worry about the Americans they were just silly, disrespectful little girls. We’ve got loads of the same over here.

Just found your channel. Love it, you have a great take on things. It's good to know I'm not the only one who sees these videos and curls up on the couch in total embarrassment. Great job

Not many non military have experienced the shear agony of standing very still for long periods.

It is on the Palace grounds. People are so oblivious to their surroundings. Most rules are to keep them out of the way of agitated horses or to keep them from upsetting the horses. The guards have a set marching route, and they will run right over you if you don't pay attention. The riders are experts. Notice the horses never bite the police or soldiers,
