Such a beautiful voice and a gorgeous young woman. It breaks my heart that she probably never realized how special she was and that her life took such a tragic path. An Angel gone too soon. 💔
I am a huge Beatles fan. I never have cared for artists who sing Beatles songs because it is an impossible task to do any better. That is, until I heard Karen Carpenters: Ticket to Ride version of the Beatles huge hit. This is the only song that I enjoyed more than the masters themselves. I have listened to her Ticket to Ride rendition many times and I never get tired of it.
Man, I haven't listened to any Carpenter music since I use to sing to every song on every album I had back in the 70s On my old record player. Listening today makes me realize how special her voice was and how much this world has gotten out of control and how much I miss her awesome voice and true love of her music. A very special lady!
That's funny cause a few days ago I ended a six .month Carpenters kick when I found Liliac a few days ago. Now I'm on a hard rock and metal spree, but I still wedge in a few Carpenters songs in between. I was laughing at myself over this. I can't get them out of my system now.
She looks so young its unbelievable and still her voice is an amazing thing. She looks so different to me... still a sweet woman i also feel like she not brush her hair
Of the three arrangements of the Beatles' original song, this is the masterpiece with the widest range of arrangements, and both the rhythm and lyrics are characterized by the Carpenters' unique melodic arrangement.
When this song came out in 1969 -- the first time I heard it on the radio (a teenager in my car), the opening lines and music literally gave me chills because of its pure beauty! I will never forget that long ago moment. One other song did the same thing years later: Jewel's "Foolish Games" had the same effect with the opening notes and then a few seconds later when her sublime vocal begins. And both songs still do.... Magical, both. And both supreme talents.
+Richard Ryckoff "Foolish Games" was a GREAT song too! A spot-on comparison between the two songs. I happen to love Jewel's early hits too! Come to think of it.... I think Jewel would sound pretty sweet, doing a cover of "Ticket to Ride" (using the Carpenters' arrangement of it..... not the Beatles' original).... I mean, she certainly has a unique accent when she sings... pretty much like how Karen had a distinct accent when she sang as well (like a blend between a Connecticut and So. Californian), which would add to the appeal. I hope Jewel actually does this one day! :-D I know Maroon 5 did a cover of the song while back, somewhat following the Beatles' style.... but..... but it wasn't good, imho. >_
Richard Ryckoff Unfortunately "Foolish Games" is only Jewel's memorable song. She also went so pop afterwards. She never surpassed the achievement of Foolish Games.
There’s a clear magic about this track. Considering what Karen was going through... Her struggle is our struggle. Her and Craig’s music will live on...
Dont think when she recorded this at 19 she had any problems it was when she came out from behind the drums and sang at the front, she got some horrible and cruel comments from the press shame on them, she had the beast voice ever as far as im concerned
I was a major Beatles fan and this song was one of the first 45s I had. But I like her version better. My husband played this for me at the end of our first date on his 8-track quad player. We just had our 48th anniversary.
i like this better,, then 1973 as well as merry christmas darling 1970 vs 1978 as the please mr postman single compared to the verizon smoother version
As amazing as this performance was, the thing which most piqued my interest was seeing Arthur Godfrey and Ed Sullivan together, both appearing to enjoy Karen and Richard's outstanding rendition of this Beatles' classic. Godfrey and Sullivan were both astute judges of musical talent. An appearance on either of their variety shows was often a ticket to stardom. To see them both on one stage, seemingly approving of what they were hearing, is a rare treat.
Omg..... This is considered being off? Most other singers would kill themselves to have such a perfect pitch. Even when she was off, her voice never waivered. I heard she hated this track because she thought she sang off key, but I did not hear a missed note one.
+Johnnie Reddcloud You compare this 1969 original recording to the one she did in '73.... you'll notice quite a bit of refinement and intonation in different parts of the lyrics. For me though, I happen to like both recordings equally.... and both are, of course, far..... FAR better than the Beatles original! ;)
Rkmugen, the problem with your analysis is, Richard didn't compose it. Paul & John did. Karen wouldn't have been able to do it unless P&J wrote it. But, Richard probably did arrange this version, and it is a superb contrast as a ballad to The Beatles fast-paced version. "Think I'm gonna be sad..."
John Lennon wrote this and the Beatles released it in 1965 got to number one, Carpenters made there 1st studio album 1969 ticket to ride, was a flop, they released single off it called ticket to ride which was a minor hit, there 1st big hit really was close to you 1970 2nd record i ever brought, such a great voice.
This track is melancholy because what Karen went through. Karen and her brother were such amazing song writers. But let’s not forgot what Karen went through and so many are going through...
There is a story that Karen ran into John Lennon in a restaurant. "John Lennon came up to Karen Carpenter and told her he loved her voice, so I'm guessing he knew of their cover and approved."
wamble, but you either forgot or chose not to remember, Richard did the arranging of the music, a very important task before any recording could be done. He also was a producer and composer. Remember that!
Exactly. Richard is the one that sorted the arrangements and wrote a lot of the tracks. He is the one who took a car jingle and turned it into We've Only Just Begun
Lip-syncing at it's worst. BEST cover of this song STILL. Chris Cornell does a spectacular, creepy version and I always wonder what influence this version had on his? I don't question whether he has heard this version.
Dear Karen, your mother, your brother and Tom Burris killed you. They killed an angel. I hope they burn in the hell for ever !!! - /// Please, rest in peace my sweet Karen, . . . my love !
The problem with this? Her rendition has nothing to do with the nature of the song. She could have well been singing any other song in the universe. It's just singy-songy with absolutely no context.
Such a beautiful voice and a gorgeous young woman. It breaks my heart that she probably never realized how special she was and that her life took such a tragic path. An Angel gone too soon. 💔
she is only 19 in this, what a beautiful voice she had
I am a huge Beatles fan. I never have cared for artists who sing Beatles songs because it is an impossible task to do any better. I have listened to her Ticket to Ride rendition many times and I never get tired of it.
Have you heard Sergio Mendes version of "Day Tripper?"
Don't forget to give brother Richard credit for arranging this masterpiece!
They also covered “Help” by the Beatles.
Also very good.
The voice, the drumming - she had it all!
She looks so lovely here.
SO impressive to do both so well at the same time
Karen Carpenter is the best singer of all-time.....
I can't argue with that, as I have her tied for best-ever with Barbra.
Have you listened to Lucy Thomas?
I'm a big Laura Branigan fan. But Karen's "Ticket To Ride" may be the best song ever recorded.
@@iralee1180 Yes. Lucy has a beautiful voice, but she's not on their level. Not even close, to be honest.
CORRRRRECT!
Man, I haven't listened to any Carpenter music since I use to sing to every song on every album I had back in the 70s

This woman always brings me to tears.
She is the voice, her brother's arrangements are the other half of this glorious presentation.
Simply the best female pop singer of all time......
David Whitlock Amen! While I love Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Adele, and a few others they are nothing compared to Karen!!
@@jamesmoyner7499 Barbra's on Karen's stratosphere, but no one else.
A voz feminina mais linda do mundo Esta voz tem que ser eterna para as outras gerações poderem conhecer o que é belo

Rolling Stones magazine's best female singing drummer of all time. & top ten overall
Karen had a timeless voice and makes the Beatles sound even better. ..
Heaven should be Proud, Thank you Lord for sharing her as long as you did
between my metal and hip-hop, I play the Carpenters. no one gets me lol
chairarms I do.
That's funny cause a few days ago I ended a six .month Carpenters kick when I found Liliac a few days ago. Now I'm on a hard rock and metal spree, but I still wedge in a few Carpenters songs in between. I was laughing at myself over this. I can't get them out of my system now.
Supposedly Alice Cooper has Carpenters on his Ipod and said "They're the best".
I don't either. No hip-hip for me. Have you heard Chris Cornell's version of this cover?
The metal and hip hop will fade away. But the Carpenters will still be valid in 50 years.
She looks so young its unbelievable and still her voice is an amazing thing. She looks so different to me... still a sweet woman

She still chokes me up when she sings!
oh her voice melt me away 🕊
The way Karen does her drumming seems effortless. It's like every drum beat is just as easy as 1-2-3.
First thing I noticed as well, great drummers make it 'look' easy.
So nice..
There’s a clear magic about this track. Considering what Karen was going through...

@@peteiswriteingnow, men don’t have such scrutiny. The damage has been apparent for so long! It needs to stop now!! Respect please, respect!
She was so beautiful here. I always loved their music especially Karen's vocals and it was such a sad loss.

lovely Karen.

Maravillosa Karen
Such deep lyrics..
'Don't know why he's riding so high'
'He's got a ticket to ride ,and he don't care.'
Just marvel at this. . . every time.

She was very talented and she sang beautiful rest in peace.
😔😍😔
I like both the original offering/ticket to ride album version and the re-record. Ones simple and true and the second is beautifully produced.
ynnhojhairam yeah but i truley think karen shined in this first version
She looked so adorable in this clip. She was much prettier and talented then she realized. 😍🥺
One of the first really amazing production pieces by Richard Carpenter. I have never overlooked his arranging and production skills.
She could sing the phone book and make it sound great
Wow thank you for posting this!!! Love it!! Karen was so adorable!!

Do you know how hard it is to sing and play the drums at the same time?
I know how hard it is to just sing!
She's actually just lip sync'ing on this video, but there's plenty of other videos of her singing and playing.
WOW
John Lennon e karen Carpenter duas vozes maravilhosas que cantaram essa linda canção!
The song Take me to ride the rigid practice bracelet thank you
0:07 I genuinely never thought it was lip syncing
I can't help wondering what the Beatles thought of this and I mean it in a good way.
Paul said Karen had "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive," so it likely they'd have thought highly of this rendition.
Love their version of help as well, very good. Just came here from that song after playing it on loop about a dozen times in a row. ☺️😊🤩🥰🤗🎵 🎶 📻 🎤 🥁
Next, play her "Nowhere Man". Her vocals are simply beyond amazing. The Beatles were Fans!!!
Even at 19, you could see the pain in her eyes in that last shot.
I love this version. No need to slick it up.
Adele also young as 17 when successfully succeeded her career. They both superb
She was a master piece and then she could play drums... and Sing to I suppose... lol Total package!!! a human prototype
Omg she is soooo good goat so damn cute

Not from her, but the harmony at 1:43 could be improved by the accompanists.
Ez a hang!!❤️❤️
in the words of john lennon, 'this is the best version of this song'!!!
awww karen's super cute here
The Betles must have bought the rights to this song and remade to what we know today. Wow never knew it was first sung by the Carpenters.

LOVELY KAREN ♥
There is a story that Karen ran into John Lennon in a restaurant. "John Lennon came up to Karen Carpenter and told her he loved her voice, so I'm guessing he knew of their cover and approved."
They say truth is stranger than fiction:In music this is almost truer than anywhere else but;Forensic Files.
She’s so gorgeous here still can’t understand the whole thing so sad we lost a giant she was only 32
Giant?
rip karen
The only cover of a Beatles song that I consider superior to the original.
She Sings it while playing Percussion. She carried every around her. She's grace in motion! I hate her brother.
If it wasn't for her brother you wouldn't even know her..
that's why it's the carpenters .. not just karen
I don't agree. She's the Talent. He took REAPED from her. She sings, she plays drums, she stands in front of everyone. She's the soul on this.

She looks sp very pretty here b4 she became anorexic.
Beautiful arrangement and voice. The original by The Beatles is still incomparable and the better version

The arrangement by "The Beatles" sounds like bubble gum music compared to this.
I hate the Beatles version compared to this timeless gem.
The problem with this? Her rendition has nothing to do with the nature of the song. She could have well been singing any other song in the universe. It's just singy-songy with absolutely no context.
I would say that had something to do with the fact that Karen’s voice hadn’t fully matured yet when she and Richard recorded “Ticket to Ride” in 1969.
