Wadi Dawkah, The Land of Frankincense

Wadi Dawkah, home to no less than 5,000 frankincense trees, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 as one of four Land of Frankincense sites. The designation spotlighted the importance of the frankincense trade across the ages in the Sultanate of Oman. This spurred the Omani government and Renaud Salmon, Chief Creative Officer at the perfume house Amouage, to start building a high-quality industry for Omani frankincense essential oil. Dominique Roques, a perfumery natural ingredients sourcer for more than 30 years, who is also tasked with plotting the renaissance of the precious tree in Wadi Dawkah, is our guide to discuss and document this ambitious project as it unfolds in the coming years.
