I've been playing Fender guitars and amps for more than 50 years now and these Squier guitars prove the difference between inexpensive and cheap. My Squier Telecaster is identical to the one shown in this video and mine is as good as any and better than some; how the hell Fender isn't taking a bath on the price point on these guitars I'll never know. Both my Squier Telecaster and my Squier Stratocaster are made in China (and trust me, the Chinese have got into the game and are producing some nice sounding and looking guitars. Both my Telecaster and my Stratocaster have the large dark font that says "Telecaster" and "Stratocaster" like you see on the late '60's and early '70's and these Squier models are as true and rockin' as you could hope for.
You can buy fender original pickups for like 140 bucks & swap out the ceramic pickups in this squire & bam ya got a thousand dollar fender for less then half price
Your comment made me pull the trigger and get one. I had a Squire strat as my first electric guitar and it served me well despite my abuse of it. Thank you
I’ve had many guitars over the years, sold most of them, but the main guitar I stuck with, was the affinity telecaster by squier. I’ve had this guitar for nearly a decade now and still it’s my go to. For the price, they truly are amazing instruments.
It amazes me to think that the best guitars for me were made between 50 and 59 by fender. I'm so glad they certified the building of their product through squire. I would never be able to afford an American made fender. My strat is my favorite guitar.
Nice clear, concise and unpretentious overview. Cuts through all the jargon, allowing potential buyers to make an really well informed choice. Many thanks.
I've just bought this exact new model Affinity (Amazon). Gotta say I'm blown away by it's quality, great set up and playability. Neck is gorgeous & super smooth, everything feels right, got every feature you need. Love it 👌
Such a celestial sound! I wish I had one but I'm from Venezuela. There are even people who started using Telecasters for metal, its high frequencies are really distinctive. 😅
This guitar totally surprised me, got one because I was away from my studio in another country. I got a really good one, setup very nicely super fast and easy to play neck, frets a bit scratchy, knobs a bit cheap but where it matters it's a tele through and through for a fraction of the cost. My go to is an AM Pro II Tele but this one is also a unique guitar in it's own way that it can stand toe to toe with the AM Pro II after a great setup. Hell I would even go as far to say if setup professionally, it will go toe to toe blindfolded with an Ultra or a custom shop tele as well if there is a high end amp involved. Great guitars for beginners and even professional players. I'd suggested giving one a try and comparing it with a more expensive one and see what appeals to you. For me the sound is there , it looks like a Tele, it quacks like a Tele, it sings like a Tele....
Bought one and I am very impressed with this Fender Squire Affinity Tele. Easy to play, the neck is very comfortable. The sound is excellent and such great value for the money. I am a country player and I love that twang. 🎸🎤😀
I have this exact guitar and it’s surprisingly good! I do plan to change these ceramic thin sounding pickups for some better Alnico ones and then I will have a fine guitar! At that point I will only be in for about $300.
I've always been a little apprehensive about the Affinity series. I had an Affinity HSS Strat about 20 years ago and it wasn't very impressive. Now I see vids all over TH-cam about them. Seems like an awesome deal with the features and finishes. I'm sure these guys are playing Affinity series guitars that have been extensively set up, fret job, etc. I judge a guitar by how it is, how it plays and feels out of the box. The majority of guitars are fixer uppers off the shelf. Pickups, switches, bridges, tuners, nuts, etc. If this Tele sounds this good I would love to have one.
Yep, and for that we can thank Schecter and Yamaha/Line 6, and to some extent Ibanez and some others. They hugely upped their game in the $300 to $1000 range over the past several years. Fender had no choice but to follow. And Fender really did--the new Fender mid range stuff (Squier and MIM) is pretty amazing. I have spent the lockdown building guitars and now know what it costs to make something good. Knowing what I now know, I find it kind of amazing that they can make these instruments this good at these price points.
My Affinity was great 'off the shelf' and came with a neck that isn't that bland pale color. I made a comparison video on my channel of the Affinity and the Classic Vibe 50s. Both are outstanding guitars!

Most metallers would use something with humbuckers. However, many classic metal groups were using single coils in the bridge position, with a Strat or a Tele. And if you want to REALLY cut through a mix, you may want to try playing some palm muted chugs on a Tele. That bridge pickup has stayed pretty much the same since 1950, and for good reason. There’s very little that will articulate the notes like a Tele bridge pickup, and legions of country guitarists will attest to that. So why not metal? Maybe the single coil will bug you with the 60 cycle hum, but this can be mitigated with a swift pedal foot ( by kicking off the distortion pedal quickly) or a noise gate. I prefer humbuckers as the basis for a metal tone, but single coils can add texture (ie: CRUNCH) to rhythms, high-end frequency boost to leads, and definition to a flurry of distorted notes. And do I have to pontificate about the single coil’s performance on those clean channel passages?
Does anyone know where to buy the replacement pickguard for this model? I have been trying out few other thrid party pickguard, but they all dont fit this 2021 Aquier Affinity Telecatster.
For the budget replacement scratchplate, I went for Musiclilys which I picked mint green. That color fits my orange Tele well and gives more expensive looking Tele
@@michaeltherion7459 definately not true. More tension in the total string does not mean more tension in the part of the string you actually play. If that tension was higher, the note the string makes would be higher. And if you manage to break a string on a properly set up telecaster with hood strings, you're doing something wrong.
I’ve had several affinity series guitars and they’re not bad for the money but my most recent purchase was this exact guitar and the fret work is pretty terrible. Sharp ends from the first fret all the way to the tenth with high spots and the tone knob was so bent that it would get stuck. It wasn’t the pot itself but the knob was drilled off center. Aside from the terrible fret work it isn’t a bad guitar. But you can get a used MIM fender for the same money and if you can find one I’d go that route for sure.

No, you'd replace the bridge for that. Why would you want to anyway?
@@lukaskuipers7791 break less strings and less tension as well.
@@michaeltherion7459 definately not true. More tension in the total string does not mean more tension in the part of the string you actually play. If that tension was higher, the note the string makes would be higher. And if you manage to break a string on a properly set up telecaster with hood strings, you're doing something wrong.

how is it?
@@themanwhosoldtheworld8683 I have a number of guitars 🎸 including a 59 les Paul standard, my teli holds its own. Great 👍 sound.
But you can get a used MIM fender for the same money and if you can find one I’d go that route for sure.
how do you get a used MIM fender for the same money wat
@@tigershav for $300??? I’ve bought American strats for under $400.. Facebook marketplace, Craigslist etc. I see them all the time.
@@SlickD217 ok in England the affinity strats are ~£220 new
the Mexican standards on ebay/gumtree are between £300-£500 (the lower end being worse physical condition).
is it really worth the extra money to get a used MIM guitar?
(genuinely asking)
A proper guitar set up will make any guiitar good
@@mjwontstop I agree that any guitar can be “fixed” but a complete re fret is not cost prohibitive on anything sub $1k really. I miss the squire of the 90’s… I miss everything about the 90’s 😂🤘
What Amp did you play in this video with? :)
