I am pretty sure I saw them at 12 Y/O (friends mom dropped us off!) near Erie, PA? Northeast, maybe? I can't recall exactly where it was .. Absolutely unbelievable concert. Anyone recall where they may have played? I'm 62 now., so it was 1972 I think ..
We are truly blessed to have lived in an era where there is so much talent on display. Early Chicago is unrivaled IMO. RIP Terry Kath. I’m pushing 60 and it’s heartwarming to see younger people get to experience and enjoy Chicago songs for the first time. Music is the closest thing we have to a time machine. Past present and future, it’s all there in the music if you are open to it.
Chicago had three main vocalist in the band: The first one you listened to - 25 or 6 to 4 - Peter Cetera (the bassist) sang the lead vocal The second one you heard - Make Me Smile - Terry Kath (the guitarist) sang the lead vocal This one - Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is - Robert Lamm (the keyboard player )is singing the lead vocal. I love the song "Dialogue parts 1 and 2" where Terry Kath and Peter Cetera trade the vocals back and forth in a conversation. There's even one song I know of by them where Lee Loughnane (the trumpet player) sings the lead vocal - Song of the Evergreen.
Great info. The era with Cetera on vocals and most of the songs of Chicago's Greatest Hits 82-89 are their best collection IMHO. Cetera's voice is completely unique unto itself. Hard to Say I'm Sorry, Look Away, Love Me Tomorrow, You're the Inspiration, etc... that album is amazing. The channel should dive into some solo Cetera as well: Glory of Love from Karate Kid II, The Next Time I Fall (duet with Amy Grant), After All (Duet with Cher).

Yep, early Chicago is one of the favorite sounds of any band, at any time. What a joy to have been able to listen to them on the radio of my childhood! Such great road trip music!
But, it would be good for them to know that after the first albums, that sound loaded with wind instruments began to disappear. They still had good songs, perhaps the most popular ones, like If You Leave Me Now, but for my taste it became a group of pop songs, generally ballads and soft rock tunes, very different from the music of its origins.

Try “Saturday in the Park” or “Feelin’ Stronger Everyday.” “If You Leave Me Now” was also a big ballad hit for them although there may not be as many horns on that track.

A solid horns experience is waiting for you to discover it. It's the flugelhorn, and it is played masterfully by Chuck Mangione. Check out the full length version of "Feels So Good" (it's around 9 minutes long) I wore that entire album OUT as a kid. The album is also called Feels So Good.
“Feels So Good” is the epitome of a summer song for me. I remember sitting outside soaking in the summer sun, and that song was blaring out of the open window from the stereo inside my brother’s room.

Robert Lamm sang lead on this one. He, Terry Kath, and Peter Cetera all sang lead over their catalogue. As an aside, they had to change their name from Chicago Transit Authority because the actual transit authority in Chicago got flooded with calls from fans. So they just became Chicago. I was a victim of domestic violence, and at the very end of the song, they change up the lyrics to say: "The best thing to happen to you, is the worst thing that happened to me." When I arrived at the Women's Shelter, the first thing I saw was a poster that said "He hit her 99 times, she only got flowers once." Then you see flowers on top of a coffin. WOKE ME UP! I was too good to be put through what I thought I had to endure. The last time, I had a concussion for three months. Complete freedom for 5 years now ~ and feelin' stronger every day."

I saw Chicago in the late 90s. They were amazing! So many hits. They opened for Crosby, Stills and Nash. For amazing harmonies you need to listen to CSN. Suite Judy Blue eyes is a good start.✌❤
I haven't seen any comments about anyone recommending listening to a fabulous cover band called Leonid and friends. They are absolutely phenomenal. Mostly Chicago covers, but 98%accurate. Really need to have a listen. Definitely won't be disappointed

From the late 60’s to the late 80’s, Chicago was literally the soundtrack of people’s lives through good times , bad times and just everyday working and living, their music was always being played somewhere. Brings back so many memories of my childhood and teen years especially. Amazing to think about so many great artists like Chicago who made so much great music that defined the decade!

This is Keyboardist and one of the principal writers Robert Lamm. Probably the best horn song from Chicago is Beginnings - from this same album. Make sure to play the full version - not the radio edit. Also Saturday in the Park is a classic. For a harder edge of their music try Poem 58 from this album or Free from Chicago III. Lowdown from Chicago III is also a great showcase. And while you are playing the CTA album start at the very beginning - their first song is called Introduction and showcases just about everyone in the band.

Earth Wind and Fire is another horn heavy song. Saw them and Chicago together in concert. Most awesome part was when both groups shared the stage together to play. AMAZING

Herb Albert did a song with Janet Jackson called "Diamonds" in 1987 too. My Mom and Dad used to listen to Herb Albert and the Tijuana Bass when I was a kid, love his work!

Chicago has a fantastic Holiday album (Chicago XXV: The Christmas Album) you should check out for the coming season!! Especially "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!" it is a Banger and has plenty of horns. Also their song "Saturday in the Park".
Chicago’s been around so long that their music is a spectrum. One band with so many sounds that when you say “I love Chicago” ya kinda have to be more specific to give people a sense of your music tastes.

Colour My World is an awesome song by Chicago I used to play the flute and this song was one of my favorite songs to play. Been to many of their concerts and the never fail to pull you in and make you happy just to be there. The whole band is so instrumental and talented.

If you’ve not reacted to Blood, Sweat & Tears, they are a must. Their horns are even better than Chicago. Both were recording and hitting the top of the charts at the same time. I had all the albums of both bands. BS&T was my favorite. Spinning Wheel was a big hit, but listen to Lucretia McEvil for an incredible music experience.

Just listened to Chuck this weekend, "Hill Where the Lord Hides" and "Children of Sanchez." Bringing many memories back to the early days of my life...as a horn player. Also, if I listen to Chuck, I always listen to Maynard.

My only problem with him is he often played sharp on the Flugelhorn and did not adjust while playing to get it in tune, although something not easy to do on those damned Flugelhorns, lol, it can be done. Yes I was a player and music student in college

Having grown up in Chicago, pretty much on the lakefront beaches and parks on a daily basis growing up and for exercise, later working for the park district, and then working in the Loop for a number of years, this song is so very visual to me. :) Never gets old. Love this band.

The first concert I ever saw was Chicago at the height of their career in the 70s and they become my favourite band. I'm a sucker for horns and played trumpet in high school so I also became a fan of other bands like Chase, Blood Sweat And Tears, Tower Of Power, and Earth Wind And Fire. Chicago though is still my most favourite band of all time. ❤
'Color My World' - a beautiful song and who knows how many couples danced their first dance to it. Doesn't have any horns but it is major piano. It's very short, might want to do 2 at once.

We had a suggestion for you, especially since Amber loves horns so much. We're in our 60's and grew up with bands like Chicago. We had a couple of other bands for you to check out that feature horns. The first one is Blood, Sweat, and Tears. They were another late 60's and early 70's band with some great tunes. The three we'd like you to check out are; "God Bless the Child", "Spinning Wheel, and "You've Made Me So Very Happy". The other 70's band that features horns we'd like to let you know about is Tower of Power. Here are three of their big hits; "This Time It's Real", "So Very Hard To Go", "You're Still a Young Man", and "You Ought to Be Having Fun". You'll enjoy them we're sure. Have fun and keep on making us smile. You guys are great!

I'm one of the biggest Chicago fans ever. Love them so much, have been to many concerts (first one in 1969) and I own every album they've ever put out. That being said, you folks need to do a search for Leonid & Friends and listen to their Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is. They are the ultimate tribute band and if you know Chicago like I do, you'll see that they play the song note for note. Since all of the original Chicago guys (inlcuding me) are old dudes now, Leonid & Friends are a re-birth of Chicago. Catch one of their concerts. You won't be disappointed.
There's a "one hit wonder" group with great horns you may like from the early 70's called Chase, named after the lead trumpet player, Bill Chase. The song is "Get It On". They played my high school about 1972 and he died in a plane crash a year or so later.
I always include them in the discussion despite the brevity of their existence due to Chase's tragic death. I figure, if their output had been of the quality and attack of "Get It On", they would have ruled, also.

Chicago Transit Authority (“Chicago 1”) was an absolutely revolutionary album in 1970. I was 12 years old & had never heard anything like it. Check out Beginnings, Introduction, Questions 67&68, & I’m a Man. Terry Kath, their guitar player singer (Make Me Smile) was extraordinary. Jimi Hendrix one]CME said Kath was his favorite guitarist. He died tragically in 1978 & the band was never the same. They eventually turned into a lightweight pop band, selling millions of records, but never again pushing musical boundaries. But their first 3 albums are just epic.
Please review "Beginnings" and "Feeling Stronger Every Day" by Chicago, great songs! Also check out "Vehicle" by the Ides of March...one of the greatest horn riffs ever!!

The Beach Boys provide harmony vocals for this song with Terry Kath and Peter Cetera splitting the lead vocals! It's not as horn heavy, but is a mellow tune heavy with acoustic guitar, piano, and harmony vocals! Also for your personal enjoyment I highly recommend Leonid and Friends for your horn fix! They are a Russian cover band specializing in Chicago and the other hornn heavy bands from that era! They are absolutely amazing!
I remember well when this song was released and got a lot of radio airplay. It became a bit of a running joke whenever without thinking someone asked "Does anyone know what time it is?", some smart aleck would answer "Does anyone REALLY know what time it is? Does anyone care?" If you want max Chicago horn section, start to finish, and if you haven't done so already, listen to "Question 67 and 68". It was from the first album in '69 when they still called themselves the Chicago Transit Authority, and it was their first ever single release. James Pankow (trombone), who did much of their horn arrangements, said he learned a valuable lesson with the horn arrangement on that one. He said he realized that in the future, they (the horns) really didn't have to work as hard in concerts as they did whenever they played Questions. The horns could just come in and out, they really didn't have to play from start to finish as they did in Questions. Btw, the title of that song is a little opaque, but it apparently refers to all of the questions the writer of the song had in his mind about his relationship with a girl during the two years ('67 and '68) previous to when the song was written.
In my 70s, reliving my youth with your discovery of this music. We took all this for granted because, as you are discovering, there was just so much of it. I am gaining a new appreciation of what we had that you don't. We can be so grateful that all this was able to be recorded for you to experience. ! n.

Yep, early Chicago is one of the favorite sounds of any band, at any time. What a joy to have been able to listen to them on the radio of my childhood! Such great road trip music!
But, it would be good for them to know that after the first albums, that sound loaded with wind instruments began to disappear. They still had good songs, perhaps the most popular ones, like If You Leave Me Now, but for my taste it became a group of pop songs, generally ballads and soft rock tunes, very different from the music of its origins.
Chicago just wasn’t the same without Terry Kath RIP.. Turned into a more pop driven Peter Cetera band ..

Try “Saturday in the Park” or “Feelin’ Stronger Everyday.” “If You Leave Me Now” was also a big ballad hit for them although there may not be as many horns on that track.

“Feels So Good” is the epitome of a summer song for me. I remember sitting outside soaking in the summer sun, and that song was blaring out of the open window from the stereo inside my brother’s room.

it's sad that we no longer have musicians like Chuck ... Chicago ... Stevie Wonder ... Herb Albert ... there are others who were so good and never really got the credit they deserved. At one point Chicago, Stevie and Chuck were just melting ears everywhere with their smooth and amazing sound

As an aside, they had to change their name from Chicago Transit Authority because the actual transit authority in Chicago got flooded with calls from fans. So they just became Chicago.

Listen to Chicago's "Feeling Stronger Every Day" with lyrics. I was a victim of domestic violence, and at the very end of the song, they change up the lyrics to say: "The best thing to happen to you, is the worst thing that happened to me." When I arrived at the Women's Shelter, the first thing I saw was a poster that said "He hit her 99 times, she only got flowers once." Then you see flowers on top of a coffin. WOKE ME UP! I was too good to be put through what I thought I had to endure. The last time, I had a concussion for three months. Complete freedom for 5 years now ~ and feelin' stronger every day."

I saw Chicago in the late 90s. They were amazing! So many hits. They opened for Crosby, Stills and Nash. For amazing harmonies you need to listen to CSN. Suite Judy Blue eyes is a good start.✌❤

I haven't seen any comments about anyone recommending listening to a fabulous cover band called Leonid and friends. They are absolutely phenomenal. Mostly Chicago covers, but 98%accurate. Really need to have a listen. Definitely won't be disappointed

Chicago has an entire horn section as part of the band. Their lead guitarist "Terry Kath" is one of the best to ever play guitar. 25 or 6 to 4 showcases Terry`s abilities, RIP Terry!
From the late 60’s to the late 80’s, Chicago was literally the soundtrack of people’s lives through good times , bad times and just everyday working and living, their music was always being played somewhere. Brings back so many memories of my childhood and teen years especially. Amazing to think about so many great artists like Chicago who made so much great music that defined the decade!
Three different lead singers. You heard bassist Peter Cetera sing on 25 or 6 to 4 and soulful Terry Kath (lead guitar) on Make Me Smile. This is Keyboardist and one of the principal writers Robert Lamm. Probably the best horn song from Chicago is Beginnings - from this same album. Make sure to play the full version - not the radio edit. Also Saturday in the Park is a classic. For a harder edge of their music try Poem 58 from this album or Free from Chicago III. Lowdown from Chicago III is also a great showcase. And while you are playing the CTA album start at the very beginning - their first song is called Introduction and showcases just about everyone in the band.
Remember when you a kid out of school on Summer vacation, and you were outside playing the whole day, a day that only had two times; sunrise and sunset? That's the feeling and the philosophy this song invokes for me.

Earth Wind and Fire is another horn heavy song. Saw them and Chicago together in concert. Most awesome part was when both groups shared the stage together to play. AMAZING

The song Amie is a huge hit. Still know every word. I was lucky enough to see Chicago in concert twice in the early 70's. Love it.

Herb Albert did a song with Janet Jackson called "Diamonds" in 1987 too. My Mom and Dad used to listen to Herb Albert and the Tijuana Bass when I was a kid, love his work!

Chicago has a fantastic Holiday album (Chicago XXV: The Christmas Album) you should check out for the coming season!! Especially "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!" it is a Banger and has plenty of horns. Also their song "Saturday in the Park".
Chicago’s been around so long that their music is a spectrum. One band with so many sounds that when you say “I love Chicago” ya kinda have to be more specific to give people a sense of your music tastes.

Colour My World is an awesome song by Chicago I used to play the flute and this song was one of my favorite songs to play. Been to many of their concerts and the never fail to pull you in and make you happy just to be there. The whole band is so instrumental and talented.
Originally they were called “Chicago Transit Authority” so if you hear them referred to as “CTA” you’ll know who they’re talking about? They have had at least 2 lead singers. Peter Cetera first and then he went Solo. Afterwards Robert Lamb (which is this one). If you liked this, you gotta listen to their “Beginnings”, “I’m a Man”, “Saturday in the Park”, “Color my World”. If you’ve not reacted to Blood, Sweat & Tears, they are a must. Their horns are even better than Chicago. Both were recording and hitting the top of the charts at the same time. I had all the albums of both bands. BS&T was my favorite. Spinning Wheel was a big hit, but listen to Lucretia McEvil for an incredible music experience.

My only problem with him is he often played sharp on the Flugelhorn and did not adjust while playing to get it in tune, although something not easy to do on those damned Flugelhorns, lol, it can be done. Having grown up in Chicago, pretty much on the lakefront beaches and parks on a daily basis growing up and for exercise, later working for the park district, and then working in the Loop for a number of years, this song is so very visual to me. :) Never gets old. Love this band.

The first concert I ever saw was Chicago at the height of their career in the 70s and they become my favourite band. I'm a sucker for horns and played trumpet in high school so I also became a fan of other bands like Chase, Blood Sweat And Tears, Tower Of Power, and Earth Wind And Fire. Chicago though is still my most favourite band of all time. ❤
'Color My World' - a beautiful song and who knows how many couples danced their first dance to it. Doesn't have any horns but it is major piano. It's very short, might want to do 2 at once.

Hello. My wife and I came across your reactions a few weeks ago. We really have enjoyed watching your reactions, so we decided to subscribe finally. We had a suggestion for you, especially since Amber loves horns so much. We're in our 60's and grew up with bands like Chicago. We had a couple of other bands for you to check out that feature horns. The first one is Blood, Sweat, and Tears. They were another late 60's and early 70's band with some great tunes. The three we'd like you to check out are; "God Bless the Child", "Spinning Wheel, and "You've Made Me So Very Happy".
The other 70's band that features horns we'd like to let you know about is Tower of Power. Here are three of their big hits; "This Time It's Real", "So Very Hard To Go", "You're Still a Young Man", and "You Ought to Be Having Fun".

I'm one of the biggest Chicago fans ever. Love them so much, have been to many concerts (first one in 1969) and I own every album they've ever put out. That being said, you folks need to do a search for Leonid & Friends and listen to their Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is. They are the ultimate tribute band and if you know Chicago like I do, you'll see that they play the song note for note. Since all of the original Chicago guys (inlcuding me) are old dudes now, Leonid & Friends are a re-birth of Chicago. Catch one of their concerts. You won't be disappointed.
There's a "one hit wonder" group with great horns you may like from the early 70's called Chase, named after the lead trumpet player, Bill Chase. The song is "Get It On". They played my high school about 1972 and he died in a plane crash a year or so later.
I always include them in the discussion despite the brevity of their existence due to Chase's tragic death. I figure, if their output had been of the quality and attack of "Get It On", they would have ruled, also.

Chicago Transit Authority (“Chicago 1”) was an absolutely revolutionary album in 1970. I was 12 years old & had never heard anything like it. Check out Beginnings, Introduction, Questions 67&68, & I’m a Man. Terry Kath, their guitar player singer (Make Me Smile) was extraordinary. Jimi Hendrix one]CME said Kath was his favorite guitarist. He died tragically in 1978 & the band was never the same. They eventually turned into a lightweight pop band, selling millions of records, but never again pushing musical boundaries. But their first 3 albums are just epic.
Please review "Beginnings" and "Feeling Stronger Every Day" by Chicago, great songs! Also check out "Vehicle" by the Ides of March...one of the greatest horn riffs ever!!
These Chicago songs you've reacted to, are all on Chicago IX Greatest Hits 1975, I owned it in 75, as a 13 year old kid, and was made fun of, because it was a Hard Rock world then, before Heavy Metal, we called it Hard Rock.
Amber and Jordan, please put "Wishing you were here" next on your list for Chicago react videos! The Beach Boys provide harmony vocals for this song with Terry Kath and Peter Cetera splitting the lead vocals! It's not as horn heavy, but is a mellow tune heavy with acoustic guitar, piano, and harmony vocals! Also for your personal enjoyment I highly recommend Leonid and Friends for your horn fix! They are a Russian cover band specializing in Chicago and the other hornn heavy bands from that era! They are absolutely amazing!
I remember well when this song was released and got a lot of radio airplay. It became a bit of a running joke whenever without thinking someone asked "Does anyone know what time it is?", some smart aleck would answer "Does anyone REALLY know what time it is? Does anyone care?"
If you want max Chicago horn section, start to finish, and if you haven't done so already, listen to "Question 67 and 68". It was from the first album in '69 when they still called themselves the Chicago Transit Authority, and it was their first ever single release. James Pankow (trombone), who did much of their horn arrangements, said he learned a valuable lesson with the horn arrangement on that one. He said he realized that in the future, they (the horns) really didn't have to work as hard in concerts as they did whenever they played Questions. The horns could just come in and out, they really didn't have to play from start to finish as they did in Questions. Btw, the title of that song is a little opaque, but it apparently refers to all of the questions the writer of the song had in his mind about his relationship with a girl during the two years ('67 and '68) previous to when the song was written.

That is why Chicago has been such a successful band, on keyboards is Robert Lamm, who sings this song, Peter Cetera on bass, who sings 25 or 6 to 4 and a majority of other songs, and Terri Kath, who plays lead guitar and sings with a raspy gritty voice!
