  • In this episode of "Garmology: Fun with outerwear!" I take a look at the Mallory jacket. First introduced as part of Nigel Cabourns "The ascent of Cabourn" in 2003, an inspired collection that arguably did ensure a big rise in Cabourns popularity, the Mallory has proven an enduring design, returning season after season in a variety of fabrics.
I talk about the mountaineering inspiration behind the design, with Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, George Mallory and the epic quest for the summit of Mount Everest.

I have the Swedish Mallory he did back in 2019. Great jacket, decent warmth and a great fit and quality. Oh and Swedish has an extra inner pocket, and two extra outer pockets.

It's not very common at all, but I'm pretty sure others have used it. Logically it does seem an odd thing to do!

I've had it for a few years and recently put on some weight, so yes. Fair comment.
