@ThePaintingCoach I work for Games Workshop, and my boss recommends you. I've been watching you for months. I love your channel. I love that you're modest, but I want to thank you for all your hard work!
Absolutely fabulous painting guide Lloyd, definitely going to add this to my arsenal if I ever need to paint the sons of Vulkan. Cheers! VULKAN LIVES!! *Stomp, stomp*
Watched a few tutorials on painting these dudes and your approach is definitely the one I’m going to take. Long time 40k enjoyer, first time painter! Thanks man!
Great stuff! Thank you. I've been following your process from the Aggressor for my army, and yeeeeup, it takes a while. But I do like the result. I'll definitely give this a go, too! Oil washes are game changer. I'm always so impressed by how smoothly you make the paint go onto the miniature. What brushes do you use?
Hey dude, amazing video very keen to try this method out this weekend. Just a quick question, do you think you could zenithal highlight with a black and white rattlecan before priming with the salamanders can?
I appreciate your comment on tanks but I prefer your previous tutorial - I'm not sold on buying base colour sprays, but that's a personal thing. Great tutorial, regardless!
You mention this is is 'tweak' in approach better suited to tanks et al. Would you literally mimic this approach on a tank/vehicle? So just the Salamander Primer & then onto the details? Ace video by the way, super informative & well paced. Thanks
@@ThePaintingCoach Terrific, thank you. Just on the gradient point, lots of different ways to describe the same thing, do you mean like a 'Zenithal' type priming approach for green on black?
Yes basically - so prime it black and the slowly build up the green so you get a fade to a darker green on the bottom and more of a solid green on the top
Great video ! Unfortunately I'm in France so no Colourforge for me and have no airbrush 😢. Do you plan to do a video on salamanders vehicules ? Those big flat panels and co are tricky sometimes to have a good result. Thanks for the video and again awesome job ! PS: I tried army painter greenskin and the results were meh at best, not smooth. surface.
Love this tutorial as someone who is just starting to paint my pile of grey shame from the indomitus and leviathan box sets. For the bases, what colours did you use, this is exactly the colour scheme I’m looking to go for above the standard black lava bases everyone usually goes for? Thanks in advance.
Glad it's helpful! The base is - I think - martian iron earth. It's the red base paint that ISN'T the one that crackles. The when that was dry I washed it with reikland fleshshade. When that was dry I dry brushed it with Jokaero Orange and then Lugganath Orange
so wait. I can't make a wash with just thinner and paint? What kind of oil would I need? I imagine cooking is a nono lol. Checked an online store and found stuff like turpentine, linseed, "stand". some of em are listed under "gamblin" and "grubacher" Either way, this is a great tutorial. Am planning on painting a salamander of my own for a Deathwatch kill team so this should prove to be very useful later on.
So the oil you are looking for is pil paint - winsor and newton is an example - you can also use something like panel liner which is enamel. You can also use black paint thinned with water, or an acrylic wash
I have this primer but yours seems to come out glossy compared to mine, am i missing something @ThePaintingCoach love the content btw really helping me a lot and helping me enjoy the hobby even more!.
Thanks! Yes it did come out a bit glossy - and I don't think it is meant too haha! Could be anything such as temperature outside or maybe I didn't shake the can long enough 🤷🏼♂️

Cool video!!
If there is a best painter on TH-cam. It's this guy.
If you're new, take notes.
Cheers Paul! I don't know if I am the best, but I certainly try my best!

Thanks Paul - I appreciate it!
Army Painter Greenskin with a quick Warpstone Glow dry brush works pretty well in the states where we can't get Colour Forge.
Came here for this
Just started some salamanders and they’re my first time ever painting minis. This video was super helpful!
Glad it helped!
The most important and well-explained guide I have seen so far. Thank you and well done.
Cheers

Thanks!
Great simple paint job! Definitely I’ll try this method some day.
I was looking for a salamanders scheme today and low n behold this new video awesome
Hope it's useful!
What's the benefit of the oil wash vs nuln oil?
Oil wash is quicker and has a bit more weight to it versus the new nuln oil
@@ThePaintingCoach thanks Painting Coach. Just followed you on the gram too. I'm gonna use this guide. Is there a ratio of oil to spirit?
Really depends on the oil - generally I use a pipette of spirit to about a 0.5cm square blob of oil
I just picked up every paint on this list. Going to try and copy you until I get decent at painting.
Good luck!
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you for doing these videos.
@cahillp3 glad they help
Cracking video coach. Salamanders are the best!
Cheers Adam!
I'm really hoping that Colour Forge get their products in the US soon. I really want that primer for my boys
I know they are working on it!
Beautiful. Balthasar gold.
Balthasar Gold!
Nice tutorial as always!
You can always try army painter orc skin speed painter 2.0, i found it just right
Just what I needed!
Glad it helps
They look bangin 🙌

Sweet! Vulkan lives!
nice paintjob!
Thanks!
Hey dude, amazing video very keen to try this method out this weekend. Just a quick question, do you think you could zenithal highlight with a black and white rattlecan before priming with the salamanders can?
Yes absolutely
@@ThePaintingCoach Awesome, was worried the salamanders would come out too thick as I've only zenithal with contrast usually.
Thanks a lot mate!
@TheJPHarvey no worries - key is to make very light passes so you have more control
I appreciate your comment on tanks but I prefer your previous tutorial - I'm not sold on buying base colour sprays, but that's a personal thing.

Yeah 100 do it that way 👍🏻 if you want to build up a bit of gradient, you can prime black first and then layer up the green spray too
@@ThePaintingCoach Terrific, thank you. Just on the gradient point, lots of different ways to describe the same thing, do you mean like a 'Zenithal' type priming approach for green on black?

I haven't got plans at the moment - hopefully Colour Forge are able to sort out international partners soon!

What colour do you use to clean up any mistakes with the black
Warpstone Glow
@@ThePaintingCoach is that 1 to 1 with the spray?
Yes pretty much - if you have a look on the colour forge website they have a colour chart comparison
what green use when i dont have the salamander green spray ? ty !
Does anyone know if you can get Colour Forge in the USA yet? I need it!
Not yet - they are working on it though!
Why is the sergeant blue in-between the pack and armor?
Could be I didn't spray a thick enough coat in that area
Is there one for the skin of the Salamanders?

what is the basing recipe?
Martian Iron Earth I think (the non crackle one) wash reikland, dry brush jokaero orange, drybrush lugganath orange
Need Colour Forge in the US!!!!
Can you talk to the salamander green paint guys and see if they can get some to New Zealand
I believe it is now available in Australia - not sure if that also includes NZ 🤔
Shouldnt eyes be red?
They've been depicted as red and yellow in images - painters choice!
Do you mean Warp Lightning because you showed a pot of Warpstone Glow?
I mean warpstone glow - slip of the tongue sorry!
@@ThePaintingCoach copy. Just double checking! Both are good Sallie colors.
Seems way to complex for me I just started collecting

If you add a satin varnish over the armour you will get the same effect 👍🏻
