This film is one that my Mother, sister and I watch pretty much anytime we are together. My sister met Mr. Santoni and told him how much joy we get from viewing it. We actually watched it after our dad passed. We needed it!

5:47 My favorite part. Does a half chuckle where he left off, then moves on.

Love this movie! Did the stage version twice. In college, I played Marlowe, the director. I was of course, too young for the part. Years later I auditioned for the part of Marlowe at our little theatre group, to get it right this time. To my great surprise the director cast me as David! I asked him if he was nuts: I was 30-something to play a kid fresh out of high school? In a theatre where the furthest seat from the stage was at most 20 feet from the stage!?! He said, we'll get a top piece - you can do it. Turned out to be one of my favorite roles ever, thanks to an inherited ability to mug and an errant love seat which had a mind of its own when I leaned on it. Ever after, the woman who played my mother (she was much too young for the role) would say to me, "You were the best one!" when she saw me in any other production.

This is my favorite comedy film. The audition scene is the funniest 6 mins. in movie history. I have seen this movie over one hundred times and every time we see it, my wife an I still laugh so hard we end up on the floor convulsing.
Too bad it is not on DVD or at least easy to find.

I remember seeing this on TV and falling off of the couch laughing. The memory crossed my mind and thanks to the miracle of Facebook I was able to almost instantly locate it and relive it. Thanks!

it's the year of covid19 July 24, 2020. This was my favorite movie when i was growing up in the 70's. We still had black and white tv then if you can believe it. My brother and i were laughing hysterically that our stomach ached. Finally our late mom who was a single mother came in the room and scolded us to be quiet and that we had 30 minutes before she'll turn off the tv. Of course she didn't check on us again because she fell asleep...LOL! Great memories. thank you for this @benfentington you took me to memory lane.

We had b/w TV too. My parents didn’t buy color TVs until we moved out. I used to tease my dad about that!

@@dazzlingdeb8427 ...so I'll take it up a notch. We used pliers to turn the channel and we had foils on top of the antennas. :-)

Elias Samonte Yes! Pliers when the knob fell off! I had forgotten that!
When I moved out, I borrowed a 13” b/w portable TV. I often had to stand and hold the attenae to get some semblance of reception. Too bad I didn’t know about foil. 😂

I saw this on regular TV only once, back in the 70s, and I still remember it. It was so much fun to see a very young Rob Reiner, years before he was on All in the Family.

I wouldn't doubt it if the Cohen brothers used this as inspiration for the "Would if it 'twer so simple" scene in _Hail Caesar._

Should have included the part where David gets confused with his stage name. First he's Ronald Coleman (already taken), then Donald Coleman, then Ron, then Don. When asked which is it, he says it's both. Ron Don? No, Don Ron.....I mean it's Don R. Coleman. Hilarious.
