Strong disagree on Westfall, the cata quest line of Vanessa rebuilding the brotherhood and betraying the people who raised her was such a good story that it has to be fun. More fun than OG westfall, that's debatable. But as it is in cata its a very fun story to follow, compared to the other ally zones of that level bracket
Hangs down the better westfall experience it shows how fucked up the alliance truely is. Horde for life!!!!
The cata west fall is undoubtedly better and one of my very favorite quest lines in the entire game
Yeah it's the opposite for me and I imagine most people, it was tedious and filled with meh stories mostly and now the defies get fleshed out and have a bit more of a story
the Alliance surely can use some more moral greyness
Agreed across the board, with one exception - Yeah, Eastern Plaguelands was rough, but Fiona, Gidwin, and Terenar deserved a shoutout!
I totally agree..while it was a bit rinse and repeat with the wagon stops and such, the story behind the caravan and the bonds and funny moments between the characters were really fun and enjoyable for me!
Gotta disagree with Deepholm tbh. It's such a good leveling zone. We're in a huge ass cave under the ground and the atmosphere reflects that. The enemies you fight there are so cool, I love those little rock worm dudes with the gems. And the Twilight dudes here are so cool. Not the best cata zone, but def a lot of fun and has a lot of nostalgia when I think of it lol
Same. Deepholm is utterly packed with things to do, and the rock creatures are so unique. It's enormously better than Vashir, which is probably the worst zone in the entire history of WoW.
I've only done Hyjal and Deepholm at this point, but I really enjoyed Deepholm as a zone. I did the entire zone in one fell swoop, but with Hyjal I did it in multiple sittings. The story just wasn't speaking to me, I wasn't as invested in the characters. Right now I'm doing Uldum, about halfway through that zone, but I also prefer Deepholm still. So currently for me it's Deepholm>Uldum>Hyjal.
Did I miss something? Or did you forget about Kezan and Gilneas?
Sure, they’re starting zones, but they’re incredibly noteworthy, given that they introduce the new races
I mean he even put footage of the Goblin zones before starting the last category .
I love Deepholm. It looks alien and strange, as a different dimension should, and I believe there’s more diversity than you highlighted: you have Horde and Alliance airships, swamps of liquid mercury, and lots of Twilight’s Hammer lore. Plus, you get there by literally diving into the motherfucking Maelstrom.
For me Azuremyst Isle, Bloodmyst Isle, Eversong Woods and Ghostlands from TBC are still the best zones to this day. They are very similar to the Vanilla zones in design but way more polished
Dude, I love Azuremyst Isle. To this day, after all these years, I still will put on ambient music from that zone and do video editing. It's amazing.
You forgot about Duskwood!!! It was and still one of if not my favourite zones as an Alliance player. However, I enjoyed it a lot more back in Vanilla than I did the Cata revamp
This may be an unpopular opinion nowadays, but I think the open, ambient and especially scenic places do wonders is setting the tone of WOW. If you're on your 100th character rushing to max level walking through the expanse of the barrens seems like a time sink or the Alterac Mountains having no great quest chain for you being pointless, but I found those places more enjoyable than some of the others. I certainly have fonder memories of those place than some of the more densely packed places like the Burning Steppes, Swamp of Sorrows or Dustwallow where I can't go 10 feet without bumping into something.
This so much! A lot of Cata was so densely packed and scripted. It felt like a single player game. I want to feel immersed in a wide open world. I also don't mind walking far for quests, but I'm also the kind of person who never uses fast travel in Skyrim.
Did anyone notice, that azshara in cataclysm is shaped in a horde symbol? 😁 It was shaped like this by goblins to show their loyalty to the horde
You didn't like Deepholm?! All I can remember thinking is how amazed I was that they could make each section look distinct... I mean it's just all rocks for god's sakes!

EDIT: Despite this video going through three sets of hands before release, somehow we forgot to include the Worgen and Goblin starting zones! LOL. Woops. Both are fun though. At least, I think so. Worgen is def superior to the Goblin zone(s), however. But what do you all think?
What about Duskwood?
Goblin starting zone is my favourite of all time, especially once you get to the Lost Isles. I love the feeling of being stranded, having to build up a town and explore this new island
Honestly, I quite enjoyed Deepholm. I'd say it's my second or third fav zone in Cata. The first being Vah'jir. Always loved to level in both of these zones.
One thing I will say about Cataclysm Hillsbrad is that the quests are enjoyable and unique enough that I always go back there when I level a new Horde character.
Too bad hillsbrad is no more available for alliance. I really loved southshore pre cata.
Did I miss it or did you skip duskwood?
Duskwood was my very favorite low level zone to quest in as alliance. I don’t remember the Cata version though.
@@Katonycross I really like the cata version but I never played the vanilla one. Great to level through with the inky black potion.
Also he shoed the picture of Blasted Lands when he talked about Burning Steppes.
@@Lotuswalker
Knew I wasn’t crazy
@@zanzull Duskwood was one of the zones that actually changed very little from Classic > Cata. One of the few things they did change which I wasn't a fan of however was the Mistmantle storyline. They removed so much of the depth to that story and removed its connection to the greater Stormwind region which made the once epic story a shadow of itself.
The Classic Morbent Fel questline was also way cooler. Having to go and collect light infused ingots that were ordered from the elves and ended up sinking off the coast of the Wetlands due to a murloc attack did so much more to promote the feel of an alive and expansive world that just wasn't recaptured with - "The necromancer has a shield! Here is this item that dispels it that I just happen to have".
Duskwood: 🥺
Whenever I think of Cataclysm zones, I always think about how obsessed I was with the gorillas in WoW as a kid. Tried taming every available color for them and was so proud when I finally found that rare white hair gorilla with blue skin in Cape of Stranglethorn. To this day I don't know why I was so fascinated by them, but I have a lingering fondness for them to this day.
12:23 Hell yeah! I felt like I was the only one that actually likes Vashj'ir. The lack of a mount is mildly annoying at first...until you get the buff that boosts underwater movement within the first ten minutes. After that, the fact that you're questing in an underwater zone hits you. It's like a whole new world down there, and I always looked forward to questing in Vashj'ir.
You were. The zone sucks.
@@schroecat1 I guess you're commenting before actually watching the video. You must have also missed the few people that agree with my comment.
I know for me it's just a strange feeling to be under that much water.... it's not claustrophobic exactly... it feels... like I'm slowly suffocating?! I don't know how to describe it, but like Nixxiom said that gets to some people. I just feel a lot of anxiety whenever I have to go there. I can't explain it, but I wonder how many people feel the same and how much this impacted people's enjoyment of the zone.
Vashjir is in my top two favorite zones in the entire game. Definitely a masterpiece of a zone.
I actually like Redridge Mountain; the story is awesome. John J. Keeshan is the badassest of chads.
I started in Cata and Redridge hooked me deep
@@claytonmurrayguitar I also started in Cata, though I didn't quest through Redridge until MoP. Redridge is the shit. I assume the story wasn't there before Cata.
@@AdonanS It was kinda different in vanilla. But it took parts from that and expanded on it
I was pretty cool with all of this except deepholm- it is my favorite zone in all of WoW, but part of that is because I got my first "good" computer when I got to the zone for the first time, and amping up the graphics settings to 10 and seeing all the floating rocks, the sparkles and jewels and such (plus I love the music) was amazing.
I miss the old barrens and stuff, but i don't mind most of the changes except for the nostalgia factor
how? old barrens was boring af, walking back and forth for so many different quests + the zone didn't change much from north to south. i remember just trying to avoid barrens as much as possible
@@theweirdguythatlurksundery8337 Your perspective just isn't coming from the same angle as what made it great back in the day. It was one of the zones that felt huge and had excellent ambience, contributing to the feel of a huge and expansive world. And there was plenty enough differences within the zone, going from fighting harpies and the Burning Blade Cult in the north, to dealing with pirates and the oil rig area, then moving onto the oasis to help the shamans study the effects.
The north of the zone alone felt active enough that the south just made it better. The main problem it had was the too heavily centralized questing hubs, but beyond that, the zone was excellent.
Whether Cataclysm or Classic, I always do the Barrens in my playthroughs as Horde because of how fantastic it's zone design is along with it's ambient music.
You mist the worgan start zone
I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING SOMETHING. The damn Worgen and Goblin zones. Both are Fun though. :)
Aaahh yes... The adventure with harrison jones is my favorite adventures.
Kudos for the Mooncluck on the Fun/Not Fun screens! :D
He narrated our last video, the 100 Fun Facts About WoW, if you didn't see it. If not, go check it out. He's back!
Also forgot Kezan and the follwong goblin zone and Gilneas
Only quest form Cataclysm Searing Gorge I remember is the pillow stealing quest.
there is also the ogre that doesn't like killing and rides spiders.
I guess you really like Blasted lands when you used its map and clips from the zone for the Burning Steppes part too. :D
and he used a Badlands footage for presenting the Burning steppes
No clue if it's removed or not. But there was a quest somewhere when they unironically had a Hitler reference. I think it was Uldum. But i could've misremembered it.
Something where you had to bring 8 candles to some goblin. And in the end he is disappointed when you turn in the quest and tells you "You were supposed to bring me NINE candles! NINE NINE NINE NINE NINE NINE!"
Good video, generally agreed other than a few like Westfall. I do miss the more open, less railroad-y nature of the original zones though
Did i miss something? what about Duskwood? how could u miss that? it has some of the best quests for alliance in vanilla. its a Fun zone
i cant wait to try cata again think ill enjoy it more now since am older i really wanna do all the quests since i never did em back in the day really i like questing now
Going back and playing it on p servers I appreciated it MUCH more on the 2nd and 3rd times through than the first when it was live. The only thing about questing was the changes to talents/when players get spells/extra heirlooms made players more powerful earlier on... but they didn't scale the difficulty of the content to match. Wrath was already feeling a bit too easy with little risk of dying, but especially when it got to MoP there was no challenge. I really think they should think about adjusting this... because other than this point the leveling experience is greatly improved.
Vashj'ir - best I've ever played, beautiful and the music and the questline
I have very fond memories of Cata. Especially the Firelands.
notice how most alliance zones either stayed the same/good or became worse.
No idea what you are trying to say
We need more of these!!
What I hate about Loch Modan is that they ... drained the Loch ..... it would be a lot better if the revamp fixed the dam and we got new islands similar to how Tiragarde Sound looks like
I liked Felwood because of that quest about imps being scared of rainbows
I liked the cata hillsbrad foothills. First time I saw such a huge Yeti haha 😂
The best part for WotlK and Cataclysm is that the Alliance has good racials compared to Retail and WoW Vanilla-TBC.
This is a good point. I remember seeing data about MoP and how NA thought Horde had the best racials and so we were Horde biased, while EU thought Alliance had the better racials.
@@naejimba Alliance had good PvP racials.
But they took these away in Legion..
free trinket human is the best pvp racial @@naejimba
I to this day have yet not played through the entirety of Northern Barrens, despite maybe having started doing quests there 10+ times!
That’s because level scaling didn’t exist back then so you would outlevel the zone’s quests very fast and have to move on unless you wanted to waste time. Now that’s changed, but haven’t done it yet. Levelling still feels fast though.
They need to update the zones to progress past Cataclysm
Agreed.
I gotta disagree on you with Redridge. It could just be my nostalgia getting to me as it was the zone I first hit level 20 and was able to get my mount (I started playing in Legion), and I have a really fond memory of that night doing that with my uncle who introduced the game to me. But even going back to redridge now, the whole Keeshan questline is really fun I think!
It's almost unbelievable what they did with Silverpine and Hillsbrad. I started a litttle before cata launch and had only played tauren. The undead starting questline got me absolutely entranced and fueled my curiosity to play more races and learn about the lore
Also, I disagree on Eastern Plaguelands, because I love the wagon questline and the buffs you get from the NPCs who get on the caravan
12:59 I never realize Blizz added Lizzo to the game. All this time she was chillen in deepholm!
I loved all of the new cata zones. What hurt Cata for me was the focus on portals as the means to travel around. It felt contrived and shrunk the feel of the new stuff and world. Loved Uldum a lot. And Deepholm I found quite fun and well designed for what it was. It could have done with some slightly different area in it.. mushroom people civilization or something but overall I still enjoyed it. Hyjal was only "okay" for me due to how progression through it worked. Vash'ir though was amazing like playing in a colorful aquarium. I just wish they'd toned down the length of that series playing as a naga and that the ending of the zone had a continuation for resolution.
Bro,dust wallow marsh has one of the best quest chains in the game.
Searing Gorge is one of the best! The Questline with the Ogre Lunk is soooo fun to di every single time!
Either you never did it, or our taste in Humor is completely different!
9:30, how could you forget the classic mallet of ZF chain? That was fun.
i loved hinterlands, apart from that yeah this list is pretty spot on
This video feels like it came out not long after cataclysm
i really like the underwater zone for me it was the most emersive zone in all wow
I know this has nothing to do with cata, but I would like to replay these on my main (retail) on a harder mode, max level scalling + some buff to the enemy.
Bro felwood has that amazing quest line with illidan
The problem with new zones in cata was that killing mobs was too easy...
This! The changes to talents and when players got their spells felt good (in Wrath Ele just presses lightning bolt until lvl 75; eww), but it had a knock on effect of making the player far more powerful at a lower level (besides shadow which I remember struggling with until around lvl 30 when they pick up in Cata). If they would have adjusted the difficulty of world content to match it would have made a HUGE difference.
Unpopular opinion, but one of my favourtie zones is actually Vashjr... I played Cata during the winter, hungry for some sunlight. The Kelp'thar forest with the clear blue water got me hooked.
Overall, the old zone overhaul made most zones way better ! The thing I liked most was the fact, that they massively reduced the walking Quests thar send you 19 times from one continent to another. And the zones actually got a story line ! With the new VoiceOver addon, this makes it definitely replayable after Questing in the old zones for far too often.
u forgot also about hillsbrad foothills is the quest of plants vs zombies for the sunflower that quest was cool
They should make a golf mode in azhara, cause frick me that would be fun
finally some vasj'ir love. Never been to tol barad tho. still worth it?
I her when player go throw the NIXXIOM Zone it A PARTAY ALL THE TIME FROM START TO END LOL GOOD VIDEO
Deepholm is the most underrated zone in WoW even to this day.
I know that many people are playing classic again and again but I feel where I am the point where I have played the game and all zones so much since my child days that I just can't anymore
I think Nixxiom forgot Duskwood, Gilneas, Kezan, and the Lost Isles
This is the first time I heard
"Blizzard removed Garrosh calling Sylvanas a bitch because it offended children"
I'm impressed how they displayed such a level of disingenuously early on.
This change happened only relatively recently, at the same time that they removed all of the "offensive" jokes and flirts.
I was expecting them to say it offended crusty ass twitter blue haired embarrassment but no, CHILDREN.
I guess if they put that blame on children we can't track down on their bullshit, ain't nobody gonna ask children about that, lol.
Smart for once, impressive still.
A lot of people hated Vashj'ir, but i loved every minute of it, but i was also a hunter :P
Can you do this video but with the Cata dungeons?
Strong disagree on Redridge. The questline was fun, culminating in a rampage with a steam tank!
yeah one of my favorites, bravo company babyyyy
What server you play in?
Most revemp zone are amazing, for me born in 2001 i didnt played befor Cata, and zone are amazing, but ppl cried over some nostalgia when de game just gets better. Playing wow classic currently the zone are WAY MORE empty quest or less fun due to lack of originalty
I disagree with redridge. I started playing in mists and recently played classic for the first time. As a first time player in mists, redridge was incredibly dangerous. The quest with key in the middle of the hounds is still one of my favs due to how tense it is, but that’s just me.
Also burning steppes has one of my favorite fun stories in the game just in general.
I actually disagree strongly about thousand needles, i absolutely love questing in that zone. Reminds me of water world. Super fun in my opinion.
CLASSIC CATACLYSM HYPE
Hype! People will finally realize it's an amazing expansion.
it was good but not the best @@literallywho-fj9qj
Absolutely disagree about Deepholm, just the visuals alone are breathtaking the first time you see them. It's one of those places where you rock around with max view distance and it just looks... overwhelming. Cool quests too, apart from the cave stuff.
Hinterlands was incredibly fun in wrath for sure
Content wise Tol Barad is better but Wintergrasp is better on the overall PVP scene by comparrison
nooo Vashjr! BEST Zone ever imo. underwater is cool and the sea is filled with mystery
What about Goblin and Worgen starting zones?
What I wanted pre cata was for the alliance to retake Lordaeron.
And then they made the Forsaken take nearly every zone.......
I was really disappointed.....
And Silverpine forest if you wanted to experience all of the worgen storyline you had to play a horde charakter which felt pretty bad
Nixxiom if you're ever going to make how to race when is it gonna happen? Love from denmark!
I gotta disagree with the Eastern Plaguelands. To this day a zone i do in every leveling journey just cause of Fiona and her band of misfits. Love them.
I have enjoyed your content. Thank.
what about goblin and worgen starting zones?
we really need new TREES BAAAAAAAAAAD
Forgot Darkshire :3
I liked Wintergrasp better than Tol Barad. From sitting with what looked to be hundreds of other players in Dalaran by the battlemaster after signing up and hoping to be chosen, to driving the tanks and shelling the towers or defending the keep.
I cant believe you make this video about cataclysm zones and you don't include goblin and worgen starting zones. Like wth dude why
So, adding goblin golf courts, railways and other Theme park elements to a zone makes them more fun?
I really loved Azshara and Desolace pre Cata.
They kinda ruined those lonely places with adding to much stuff.
Imagine if all these zones were revamped to be on par with dragon isles design, interactivity with items and quests, and graphics as good if not better, PLEASE BLIZZARD! the only thing i want for the game is to make the zones look and feel like they did first playing classic! 👀
They got to learn how to set up leveling better. Alot of dead zones not being utilized. For example, you can't even browse through the command board. Another ex, the transition of questing after making it to the main city(around lvl 10), the option setup(also for new players) is very limited and the player wouldn't know there's other places they would have rather lvled up in. (Untapped potential).
Is it because kezan, lost isle, and gilneas look like DK starting zone so you didn't included it in the list?
playing WoW classic for the first time like 3 weeks in and tried the cataclysm pre patch. it realy feels like i missed so much because it starts with the events of wotlk and i dont know what happend. But i cant play tbc and wotlk until i player through the new zones. Kinda feels like the first movie gets removed and i have to watch the 4th to be able to watch the 2nd and 3rd.
Also i loved auberdine and seeing it completeley destroyed made me sad.
11:30 theres a quest chain for am item called a landing pillow, did it ages ago so I cant remember if it was pre or post cata.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1k Needles - maybe not fun, but take your Tauren Druid (whichever) and go farm Stranglekelp, Mithril, Truesilver or Gold. Course around the are and you'll farm sh*t ton of it.
And what I miss about Swamp of Sorrows is the original Sunken Temple - I'd rather Blizz make us do a quest to be able to return to the pre-Cata version, rather than "go to Classic". And, due to its sheer size, maybe make it a raid? Dunno. Itharius is there, so maybe Chromie or Nozdormu could also have a role to play?
Kezan/Lost Isles and Gilneas?
you didn't like redridge? whaaaat blowing up half the damn map with keeshan was amazing
I personally disagree with Azshara... even though there were definitely some unfinished quests in Classic, it had a really unique deserted feel to it especially with all the Highborne ruins and such. The fact that the goblins totally overran it and scrapped so much of the history there is sad to see :'(
Some company stole this video I just got the ad while watching another video
is classic getting this update? seems like it.
Bruh you forgot Duskwood
I do hope they won't go to Cataclysm Classic. I came to Wow Classic exactly because I wanted to experience again pre-Cata Azeroth, officially this time. And since I have invested so much time and effort in my toons, to me this would be the ultimate betrayal. I have litteraly 0 wish to put a single foot on this expansion, nor than any of the following ones. I'd rather pray for a Classic Plus, or maybe a Wotlk Plus ?
Most of the revamped zones are still fun or became fun... Maybe the people were too harsh with Cataclysm xD
(Fiona deserve better in the vid lol)
