As a Japanese, I feel strongly the factors of Japanese City-pop in the 80's from this song (and her some youtubes). It belongs to EDM, but it has a clear, gentle and somewhat nostalgic tune. And her selection of songs to cover in Japanese not is only matching her singing voice, but is also very sophisticated as if listening to future music. I hope in 2020 City-pop like this song will make more popular in Asia.
Yeah! I think it's more consciously derivative of western New Wave music, but City-Pop and New Wave evolved around the same time and have a lot of stylistic similarities. City-Pop has more R&B influence than New Wave imo.

I'm Japanese and I can judge this is epic with both the vocals and translation. Also it's so cool she's super fluent in Japanese "lyrics" while she doesn't speak the language itself. It's surprising.

banyak yang bilang kalau bahasa jepangnya gak kena dengan bahasa inggrisnya, tapi pas di bawa ke bahasa Indonesia dulu ternyata nyambung, saya merasa translatornya mencari kesamaan "arti" dari tiga bahasa. kemudian di bawakan sebagai lirik lagu sehingga cocok dengan melodi. karena kalau langsung ke bahasa inggris ke jepang dulu gak bakal nyambung dengan melodi lagu contohnya "blinding lights" = "lampu yang menyilaukan" (Indonesia) bisa di artikan "silau": "me ga kuranda" = silau (Indonesia) kalau dari inggris ke Jepang akan beda arti "blinding lights" = Buraindinguraito (jepang) atau Mabayui bakari no hikari jadi translator menyamakan arti dari tiap kata terlebih dahulu many say that the Japanese does not touch the English language, but when it was brought to Indonesian it was connected, I felt that the translator was looking for the same "meaning" of the three languages. then performed as song lyrics so that they match the melody. because if you go directly to English to Japanese first it won't connect with the song melody for example "blinding lights" = "lampu yang menyilaukan" (Indonesia) can be interpreted as "silau" (Indonesia) so "me ga kuranda" = silau (Indonesia) if from English to Japanese the meaning is different "blinding lights" = Buraindinguraito (Japanese) or Mabayui bakari no hikari so the translator equates the meaning of each word first because we are Indonesian, not japanese and english hehehehe
She's originally good but after the english to japanese covers she suddenly have the ability to produce more type of genres if you understand what i mean. Most of the japanese songs instruments are based on rock, pop punk, electronic piano/flute etc. But when it comes to another language's cover (Pop/Stars , Say So) she has to make her voice suits to the song and it workkss?? And now she's even better? (Yes i know she does not make the music, i mean how she make her voice adapted to the new kind of genre out of jpop)

I only discovered her recently, but she is just an absolutely fantastic singer. Her voice is mesmerizing and so pure that angels weep upon hearing such perfection. But the thing that really gets me is the passion with which she sings (such as 2:02)... this is what true talent looks like. You can always tell because there is no pretentious posturing or other gimmicks... it just raw unencumbered expression on the highest levels of artistry. You very much deserve to have so much more success.

Bahasa (melayu and Indonesia) is really hard on the pallet. You really have to pronounce words with a crisp, that's why I think Rainych sings Japanese flawlessly.
Melayu malaysian and indonesia is very different, indonesian is most clearer and without specific pronouncoation, so indonesian is so easy for imitate other language even without undeestanding what are the meaning. But only fluent indonesian speaker who majority in jakarta who can imitate, because if you have specific pronouncoation its also very hard to imitate, cause indonesian dialect is a lot, like java, sunda and other

Mohammadhossein it’s when she becomes so famous (thanks to her great singing voice) that even the original singer praise her, her translation becomes recognized as definitive cover - which spreads mistranslation. I don’t know what Japanese person thought this was acceptable level but I have been professionally translation for 15 years working for big companies and if you understand English well then you’d know this is not quite acceptable in professional terms. Of course, translating lyrics are very hard and it’s almost better to translate the meanings instead of near direct translation as it’s been done here, and they are not doing bad job either though if you know both languages well enough you realize some translation are rather opposite of the original (not uncommon mistake even with professional translation). My main issue is with the fact that she does not know Japanese well enough yet she decides to make a cover of English song in Japanese instead of her mother tongue of Indonesian. It makes me feel like she is using Japanese like a costume and it bothers that people think this is a proper Japanese.
Just like Doja said to her own cover, she can totally own the song if she wanted to LOL. At least that's how I feel about this cuz it's a GOSHDANG BOP.

banyak yang bilang kalau bahasa jepangnya gak kena dengan bahasa inggrisnya, tapi pas di bawa ke bahasa Indonesia dulu ternyata nyambung, saya merasa translatornya mencari kesamaan "arti" dari tiga bahasa. kemudian di bawakan sebagai lirik lagu sehingga cocok dengan melodi. karena kalau langsung ke bahasa inggris ke jepang dulu gak bakal nyambung dengan melodi lagu
contohnya "blinding lights" = "lampu yang menyilaukan" (Indonesia) bisa di artikan "silau": "me ga kuranda" = silau (Indonesia)
kalau dari inggris ke Jepang akan beda arti "blinding lights" = Buraindinguraito (jepang) atau Mabayui bakari no hikari
jadi translator menyamakan arti dari tiap kata terlebih dahulu
many say that the Japanese does not touch the English language, but when it was brought to Indonesian it was connected, I felt that the translator was looking for the same "meaning" of the three languages. then performed as song lyrics so that they match the melody. because if you go directly to English to Japanese first it won't connect with the song melody
for example "blinding lights" = "lampu yang menyilaukan" (Indonesia) can be interpreted as "silau" (Indonesia) so "me ga kuranda" = silau (Indonesia)
if from English to Japanese the meaning is different "blinding lights" = Buraindinguraito (Japanese) or Mabayui bakari no hikari
so the translator equates the meaning of each word first
because we are Indonesian, not japanese and english hehehehe

I only discovered her recently, but she is just an absolutely fantastic singer. Her voice is mesmerizing and so pure that angels weep upon hearing such perfection. But the thing that really gets me is the passion with which she sings (such as 2:02)... this is what true talent looks like. You can always tell because there is no pretentious posturing or other gimmicks... it just raw unencumbered expression on the highest levels of artistry. Bahasa (melayu and Indonesia) is really hard on the pallet. You really have to pronounce words with a crisp, that's why I think Rainych sings Japanese flawlessly.
Melayu malaysian and indonesia is very different, indonesian is most clearer and without specific pronouncoation, so indonesian is so easy for imitate other language even without undeestanding what are the meaning. But only fluent indonesian speaker who majority in jakarta who can imitate, because if you have specific pronouncoation its also very hard to imitate, cause indonesian dialect is a lot, like java, sunda and other

@@yocean14 Could be, shes not a native japanese person ( i think shes indonesian ) so if its not her first language shes probably still not yet fluent in japanese.
Mohammadhossein it’s when she becomes so famous (thanks to her great singing voice) that even the original singer praise her, her translation becomes recognized as definitive cover - which spreads mistranslation.
I don’t know what Japanese person thought this was acceptable level but I have been professionally translation for 15 years working for big companies and if you understand English well then you’d know this is not quite acceptable in professional terms.
Of course, translating lyrics are very hard and it’s almost better to translate the meanings instead of near direct translation as it’s been done here, and they are not doing bad job either though if you know both languages well enough you realize some translation are rather opposite of the original (not uncommon mistake even with professional translation).
My main issue is with the fact that she does not know Japanese well enough yet she decides to make a cover of English song in Japanese instead of her mother tongue of Indonesian. It makes me feel like she is using Japanese like a costume and it bothers that people think this is a proper Japanese.
