Wacom is too overpriced to have this many issues with their flagship products.

channelofstuff that isn't necessarily the case. You get a comparable product from some other brands for half the price many times with wacoms higher end models

My god this is maddening. I started considering buying a cintiq about a year ago. I was about to just buy a 22HD, because they seemed like the best option even though they're way overpriced and almost 5 years old (!!!). Then I realized that these new Pro models were coming out, so I waited. And waited. Didn't want a MSP...cause I didn't want to pay 3 grand for a new tablet with specs that are significantly weaker than the PC I've already got. When the Pro 16 was finally released, they were out of stock right away and I held off buying one anyway because there were already reports of the whole USBC/Link compatibility issues. Wanted to see how the reviews went once people got a chance to use them. Now that that's happened, it's a damned disaster and tons of people say they regret buying them or are returning them. Great. So, maybe I'll just buy the 22HD after all (back where I started a year ago)....and hey look, those 5 year old devices are STILL comically overpriced at $500 MORE than the brand new ones!! What a god damn mess. Wacom's disdain for their customers couldn't be more apparent.

jabuhrer1 these problems are minimal i bet they already fix them with a driver. Some people are just too picky about the device they want like this guy. I got the 22hd 2 years ago and already have paid himself. its great tablet if you got the space. The 16 pro it's way more modern and needs less desktop space.

You also pay for like 6 inches more tablet. So the price is not that unreasonable. On the 16 inch you get 4k though, and it has 4x as many pressure-levels. So i'd definitely go with the Cintiq Pro. You gotta remember though, that the 22hd was top of the line when it was out. And from a business perspective it's best to raise the price of previous generations, to make the new gen more attractive. Although in the EU the 22hd has recently taken a 100€ price-cut. So in my area it's 1799.90€ for 22hd. And 1599.90€ for Cintiq Pro 16. If you buy them directly of the Wacom store.

So disapointed with the wacom cintiq Pro 16, it's not not even close to worth what they are charging
    Issues that I had:
    It get's really hot
    the fan noise is horrible
I had flicker issues when the pen got close
    Hard to get 4k working
The colors out of the box is insanly bad
For 1500$ I expected to get a backrub by angels when I turned it on, instead it was constant nutkicks by tiny demons.
    Returned it.

Teo Gonzalez I agree. I had a Cintiq 12WX previous to the purchase of my new Mobile Studio Pro, and it never gave me a single issue (except some minor issues caused by the need of driver updates from time to time) in the full decade I owned it. Quality and durability was top-notch.

Very informative. I was thinking of getting Cintiq 16 but with this many issues it makes the old Cintiq 13HD look good. This is why I like the Intuos tablets, they may be screenless but the price, the ability to go wireless and the general user friendliness make them so much more appealing than the mad expensive Cintiqs ridden with problems.

Sho kinda depends, for me I can't do the hand eye coordination because I am a fucking moron lol. But I think the wobbly lines issue is with their newer tech. Just something they have to get rid of through future updates and fixes. Heck, even Microsoft finally got rid of it(if I'm correct I can't remember, I think only the tapering got fixed) and it took them a while...
Something must be fucking it up.
However the 13HD is really good. Just I don't use it cause I don't wanna break it. Lol... I"m not smart at all I swear XD

I just want to support Wacom in regards to the choice of the Nvidia Quadro GPU: as an Industrial Designer I am very glad that Wacom considered the requirements of 3d artists and designers and decided to embed a decent Quadro card in it. We want to be able to jump from 3d to 2d instantly and we want that 3d to actually spin complex surface or poly or parametric models seamlessly. I would not buy this product if it wouldn't support that. Then I'd completely loose the mobility as I'd need to go for a Cintiq and a separate workstation, as I really need that horsepower.

Have you tried Lazy Nezumi Pro? I've had this wavy line issue on every Wacom or Wacom-penabled device that I've ever owned... I always figured it was my hand. But Lazy Nezumi takes care of the wobbliness when I'm doing finish art. Good tip from Saito Shunsuke on using a previous generation stylus.
As for a stand, I recommend the Keynamics Aviator Laptop stand for the MSP16- super sturdy, doesn't block any airflow vents, and very compact when broken down.

thanks again for another informative video! they are quite helpful. the drawbacks are quite a bummer and certainly not what you'd expect from a pro device this expensive. would appreciate any updates should conditions change! i really like what the cintiq pro has to offer but cannot justify a purchase like this with the issues it's having. wacom promos seem to be largely quiet about this device as well, i don't see nearly the same push for it as the rest of their products.

So I'm sitting here on amazon trying to decide between these two devices... I'm glad I found your video, because you answer several questions that nobody has mentioned. Firstly, on the Cintiq, the paperwork shows hooking the power to the top left USBC port and the computer to the right USBC. But according to this video, that doesn't give 4K resolution. So the correct way to hook it up would be top left USBC to computer and one of the others for power? (Another thing that drives me nuts is that you need TWO wires coming off the thing to use it, where the 13HD only has one for power, USB, and video...) Second, and I didn't know this, but the Cintiq has fans? (I've owned and used older Cintiq displays and none had fans in the past.)
The only questions about the MSP I have are about using it as a slave display. Does it do 4K as a slave or is it limited like the CC2? And does the tablet need to be running to be a slave or does it go into a kind of "zombie" mode where the display turns on, but the PC doesn't (like the CC2)?
Finally, how would you say the MSP measures up to the CC2? I'm very disappointed Wacom decided to not include the stand or carry case for the MSP, but if the performance is really that much better, then I might get over that. (Honestly, Wacom couldn't throw in a $3 piece of aluminum and a $5 case when you're already putting $3k down on a new tablet?)

24HD has a fan. I had just done an almost silent fully custom watercooled PC build when I bought it. The Cintiq is louder than my PC, haha.
I do wonder what makes them heat up so much.

  • @Shining4Dawn
    @Shining4Dawn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I recently bought the MSP13 and I love it.
I can't really agree with you on the circle's buttons thing because it really never occurred to me to use them for anything other than switching the ring's modes. They're also not very comfortable to push and you often end up rotating the ring a little when you try to push them to switch modes, which is a bit annoying because you may change your brush size by accident when you want to zoom or something... But I pinch zoom anyway so whatever.
The thing with the cursor moving the way it does when floating the pen over the screen is pretty annoying... but I think it's part of what lets you look at the tip of the pen when drawing instead of looking at the cursor itself. I feel like there's some sort of location prediction software hidden in there.
And lastly, I've run into an issue that wasn't mentioned in this video. The auto rotation switch on the side of the device can't be rebound. It's function is always to switch auto rotation on and off. I've sent Wacom a letter regarding the matter and they came back to me saying that it's programmed into the button's hardware to switch auto rotation on and off and that it's function can't be changed. If anyone knows a workaround for this, please let me know.

    • @HappehLemons
      @HappehLemons 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Floating cursor thing is deff a lame glitch, and every worse it was fixed in the Cintiq 13/16 so it doesn't look like a software problem. It actually causes some larger issues in other programs sadly. Thanks for the comment though.

Thanks! I didn't know that Wacom made a 16" Cintiq. Yeah, wavy lines are crazy. It seems like a giant step backward. There ARE a couple plugins that are supposed to help with this (*Lazy Nezumi* is one) but we shouldn't have to deal with this in 2017. Is it possible that this is a hardware issue?

I tell one thing software companies and hard ware-companies do not listen. It's all profit...profit...profit regardless. They should work together but they don't and the should listen to there customers more. Microsoft has the same problem. I would have brought one of these, but the battery is rubbish..., but that's just me anyway I wait to see what happens at E3 this year,...Anyway thank you kindly for this Tim.

I'm thinking this review needs to be revisited since Wacom released their newest driver which may have addressed wavy lines. Calibration is always a PITA and I've had to make several attempts to get all four crosshairs in the middle, count them 4! That takes a steady hand for anyone and I recommend holding the pen straight up. As for complaints about sleep mode, that is a Windows issue, not a Cintiq one. Never use sleep mode on Windows, period, trust me on this! Go into the settings and shut it off. This feature (bug) in Windows is ongoing and has been prevalent many years and does not appear to be something they plan to fix even if they can. Read and I mean alllll of it before changing your settings, no skimming or cheating! www.pugetsystems.com/labs/support-software/How-to-disable-Sleep-Mode-or-Hibernation-793/

Tendency to shut off on its own some times, majority of the reason is win10 wants to update. Heats up faster than the desert. And occasional pen recognition just disappears.

Looking at all the positive reviews of things like the Huion KAMVAS GT-191 (Around 20 inches of delicious IPS panel) and then looking at the price of the 22HD. I can't help but laugh really hard at the irony when some people try to defend wacom as the only option for professionals.
The only thing the Cintiq pro 16 has over any other tablet is the parallax being so minimal, that's essentially it.
I've had 5 Wacom tablets over the last 10 years, 3 of those with major issues. 1 still lives (intuos4 medium) and the other had it's cord chewed up by "someone" (old intuos3 large, may you rest in piece).

I honestly didn't even notice the MSP's hover skipping, mostly because there's nothing in my workflow that'd be affected by it. It honestly behaves like it's a lower resolution that the display itself? As for the cursor, I think that's probably just Windows doing a thing - I use a different cursor, and have no such issues with it.
I do have issues with sleep, though, and the same goes for everything else I have that uses Windows... My solution is to disable sleep entirely and just have it power off the screen.

Hey unskilled guy! Was this video posted before or after your "4K fix for the 16 pro" video? You mentioned in that video that getting the 16 into 4k fixed the wavy lines from the lower resolution.. So was that really fixed? or has the lines issue persisted?

You forgot the issue that they lied to us about "no calibration needed, works perfectly".
The mouse is still totally not where the pen is and you cannot hit the same line again if you are not zoomed in totally. Especially in the corners you can see that it is missplaced.

I purchased a Cintiq Mobile Pro
The first one I received glitched horribly within 15 minutes of use and I had to send it back.
The second one worked properly but it ran sooo toasty. The processor(?) is on the bottom middle, right where you would hold it in your lap. It's very uncomfortable to draw with. At times it ran so hot that the entire right side was too hot to the touch, like the temperature of soup that has been in the microwave too long and it hurt my hands! The screen itself was too hot to draw on and I needed to have a cloth underneath my hand just so I could comfortably draw.
My fan wasn't loud but honestly I wish the fan was noisy and loud as possible if it meant that it ventilated properly!
I didn't face the wavy line problem as much.
I drew for about 2 hours, but I sent it back again. I would never survive working 8 hrs a day in the summer with it.

Just got the Cintiq Pro 16, and very close to returning it. It has lag & latency issues on my machine (late 2013 model) and uses up ALL of my left side computer ports, so I need to dongle like crazy to use the express keys, too. I also have that annoying pink hue issue, which I mostly got rid of, but it's still slightly there. Bleh.

that reminds me though, would you perhaps sometime try out using your MSP as a cintiq? i believe with the wacom link it actually can function as a cintiq on a stand alone computer. i've seen only a few folks try this and am wondering what your experience might be. i know that's kinda counter intuitive (using a computer tablet as a pen display for another computer) but i am admittedly attracted to the idea that i could use the device as is on the go, but also as a cintiq device for my main (and more powerful) machine.

Biggest issues that any and all Wacom products I've had has, drivers. Drivers, drivers, drivers, and drivers. The fact that I know by heart where to restart the drivers BECAUSE of my Wacom tablets is not a good thing. They seem to just get worse and they have so many weird bugs all over the place. The hardware itself is nice (when not getting super warm and if you can deal with a bunch of cables) but the software is something I would expect from a knockoff Chinese alternative, not from the drawing tablet equivalent of Apple.

Couple questions. Does the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 get scratches from regular use? If so, how bad? My motherboad has usb type-C. What specific wire do I use for it? Is it a usb type-c to usb type-c wire? Thank you for your reviews!

I havent had the device long enough to say if it'll scratch or not, but it's not something I'm worried about. Mine hasn't scratched yet. You should just use a usb-c to usb-c on your computer, but your computer has to support DP ALT mode.

I actually have this exact wavy line problem on my cintiq 24hd, it's not even a new model, I bought back in 2012, and I am using the same pen it came with. On the latest drivers I was getting these waves really often, then rolled back to a slightly older driver (6.3.18-5) a few days back and only had one case of wavy lines when using zbrush, but since I had it the problem is definitely still there.
I don't know if it's solely a driver problem, or maybe a windows update that messed up with the driver. I'm running windows 10 btw.
If you manage to find a solution for this, or even isolate the problem, would you be so kind to share your findings?

Hey Unskilled guy! I wonder if you can help me which Cintiq should I buy. Should I buy the new cintiq 13 pro and update my PC (it has no USB-C port). Or just buy the Cintiq 13HD? I wonder if the difference in quality is worth the full rig update AND buying an expresskey remote. Cos one of my biggest issues with the new 13 pro is the lack of Express Key and the need to buy a remote. I really love those express keys, and currently I think I will buy the 13HD. Even if it's 4 years older than the new ones. But I wonder if this is a big mistake from somebody's viewpoint who used both. I'm also lacking in budget department, but if 13 Pro is really a super big deal compared to the 13HD, I will stretch further a little.
It's also worth mentioning that if I buy the 13HD, I will have a bigger budget to update my SSD, my ram from 8 gigs to 16 gigs. While if I buy the 13 Pro, I wouldn't be able to do that.

I have 13 Pro, and i left more detailed comment above.
If you have a thunderbolt port on your machine, you don't need usb -c, if you want more control on your lines, go for 13 Pro. But the screen quality is about the same, and express keys.. so HD is still really good one.. )

No, I had the cintiq pro 13 for a few days here too. Its nearly perfect and has way less issues than the 16. I guess these and the fan are the reasons the 16 got delayed.
Even the 27 didnt have a fan.
I think in the last day before releasing they noticed: omg its so hot! What can we do? The cheapest way are fans! It will not work out but the user will think it works. It will take a few months to build them in. Lets do that.
      I feel betrayed.

I have Pro 13 for a month, here is few thoughts:
-Not elegant way to connect with thick rigid cables, if you haven't usb-c port /mine is - MBP 2015
-The screen bends a little in the center when you are working
-Often I accidentally press the buttons at the top
-Screen quality is not that great - grainy and colors are not accurate, as you know it's only 87% RGB
      But:
-It's really pleasant to draw on it, the lines are smooth and you get fantastic control on, im working in Manga Studio mostly, and use Mischief for sketching. In PS it's not that great, but still ok
-It's beautiful device, quality in each part / except the cables /
-There is no wavy lines issue
After it i tried to draw on Surface Pro4 - it's absolutely crap for drawing in comparison to the Wacom
      Hope, it helps a bit

Have you tested the wavy diagonal lines issue in photoshop using the psuserconfig.txt trick that disables windows ink? I've used it to fix the slider jitter issue once with intuos [unfortunately it caused a whole bunch of others, so I've quickly foregone it, but it's worth a check.]

    • @unskilledguy8479

    • @RNorthex
      @RNorthex 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I understand that, but the idea is to disable windows ink for a specific application to see if disabling windows ink altogether fixes the problem. It's microsoft's own stylus drivers that causes a lot of issues with wacom's. OSX i do not know about, but wacom believes that is also an OS sided problem.

I'm mostly using Photoshop, Maya, and ZBrush in it. I understand why it could overheat while rendering or working on heavy scenes in Maya, but it's getting extremely hot while painting anything in Photoshop and it even gets very hot when I'm simply browsing the internet.
It gets hot about 10 minutes in, and sometimes it shuts down like half an hour in, even when I'm blasting the AC to keep it cool.
On top of that, I recently noticed some discoloration and lines on the top right part of the display.

    • @unskilledguy8479

I hear using the GPU will cause the device will overheat. You could try disabling GPU acceleration in Photoshop, but personally I wouldn't dare use Maya on this device, I just dont think it's powerful enough. I use mine for around 8 hours a day and I never had any issues, although I was just using it as a normal laptop.

But seems it solved it to turn on the "energy save" option in the wacom program. You cant make the screen brighter than 75% but thats better than the noise.
Also, my neck got serious problems because it only has these ultra small feet. We need the same stand as the 27hd has. Till then Ill take a ipad stand or something like that.
