CORRECTION CORNER: - Goku did in fact say he would fight with one arm. Totally missed that, sorry :( (Also not a correction, but in case anyone is wondering, MAI-NO-TAUR is indeed the British pronunciation and not a mistake ^.^)
The Mini Goku vs Glorio fight was spectacular. All of the special effects and the camera work were all amazing. Including when Glorio used his Magic and when Mini Goku turned into Super Saiyan. One of my favorite scenes from this episode was where Mini Goku teleported behind Glorio completely beating him. I really enjoyed your analysis about this episode, AnimeAjay.
I didn't have ... that big of an issue with Yashimas boards, but this one is definitly a lot more interesting. Thanks for pointing out the detailed perspective in Yanos "flat shots", i did not notice that while watching the episode
Awesome work as always Ajay, loved the analysis of the storyboard in this one. Take all the time you need to cook these videos because they're worth the wait.
I’ve enjoyed the heck out of Daima so far, but this was the first episode to get an actual out loud laugh from me rather than a chuckle. The Minotaur gag was directed and timed out really well.
fun little tidbit, yamamoto's first work on dragon ball was as an inbetweener on resurrection f. to go from that to his broly work in 3 short years is frankly insane
While I do think Daima is a bit on the slow side so far, the incredibly good production and how fun everything seemed to make has really made up for it in my opinion. I'm having a great time watching this show!
Goku going SSJ was the best moment in this segment. While Episode 5 gave us the first glimpse of this transformation, we actuallt him officially do it this time around. It was like seeing an old friend again🤗.
Good to know that I am not as rusty as I thought trying to identify certain animators if even you are having trouble. Loving the Daima aesthetic and love seeing you back breaking down the animation! Take as much time you need to make these videos
Love these breakdowns on animation. It's something so easy to forget to appreciate, but once someone really breaks it down it really highlights the effort the animators do.
Thank you again for your review! I feel like you enjoyed yourself while voicing this video and I appreciate it! This episode 6 is gonna be hard to top but we'll see!
Love your breakdowns Ajay. You're so darn knowledgeable and you help me appreciate Daima even more! Keep up the good work mate! P.S If you ever wanted to collaborate on something let me know!
Never apologize for being late Ajay, I think we can all agree we prefer you taking your time to sort everything out and be 100% over these breakdowns being rushed. I didn't mind Yashimas boards that much, but man, the flatness and difference compared to Yano is very notable, and the latter did an absolutely amazing job here. Being an artist myself, I'm a big fan of all the crazy angles and transitions, looking forward to more of his boards, hopefully it won't take another 5 Yashmina boards to get there. Overall it's just so refreshing and amazing to see absolute industry and franchise legends like Nakatsuru work with amazingly talented young blood like Yano, Yamamoto and Sanda, and everyone is allowed to do their part to their part and go crazy while Nakatsurus expertise and experience glues everything together. It's unorthodox, but great to see different generations of animators coming together and mixing their styles and approaches to such amazing results. The fact this wasn't the anticipated big break out episode, and it still looked so amazing, definitely speaks for the whole production team and process. Super or even Z would have absolutely rushed and outsourced this to the likes of Kitano and Ebisawa, thank god we are finally past these days. Finally, that SSJ transformation was absolute fire. I really like that it gets used very sparingly so far, and if it does, there's meaning and impact behind it. Outside of Broly and Super Hero, we got so used to SSJ just being poof and done, if it wasn't skipped entirely, it really has lost any meaningful impact, especially with Super throwing out another new form who got the exact same treatment every other arc. SSJ hasn't felt this special since probably Goku vs Cell.
WOOO I KNEW THIS STORYBOARD LOOKED A WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT XD As much as I loved Daima's episodes so far (especially the first few) this episode definitely showed how experimental dragon ball can be! My personal favourite was not really the way Goku nullified Glorio's beam in SSJ like you said (even tho that looked sick) but the way Goku transformed. I don't know how to explain it but its just...wow. Would it be weird to say this transformation is kinda on par with Goku's blue transformation in Broly? Eh probably not. But yea beyond amazing episode!
Amazing video as always! With so many different roles mentioned in these animation breakdowns, I would love to see a video on how an anime episode gets made. From storyboards, key animation, vfx, sfx, etc. up to the TV release. Would be really cool to get a better understanding of how all these moving parts come together
I like how it not “oh I have big power ,let’s fight” like in super. it just good old dragonball.Hey let’s go find dragonball. Kinda adventure. Go through the westland and shenanigan.
5:50 Didn't it? I swear I remember Goku saying he going to fight with one hand behind his back and the reason he removed it was because Shin told him to take it more seriously
This was the episode that made me buy into the show. I don't mind the slow pacing at the moment, it has been nice to build these new characters and lore dump.
i think the slow pacing is done now. we have tamagami 3/2/1 fights, gomah/degusu fights, arinsu/?/? fights and exploration of 2nd world which seems to be more empty (namekians/kais left) and world 3 with only around 17 episodes left.
I'm just glad transformations feel somewhat meaningful again. Super utterly _DESTROYED_ the cool factor of _every_ transformation when they basically just feel like a wardrobe change, there's like 69 of them and they all get beaten by the next _"stronger"_ guy with relative ease.
I'm so god damn happy to read this take. I hope more people start to wake up, we don't need a new hair color every arc. It's just forced slop to sell more merch at that point
Oh man the blur on Super's effects...that was certainly an era. I remember that one episode near the end of the ToP where we actually got to see fully formed not-bluured purple smoke billow out while Goku and Jiren duked it out and was like "Holy shit! The shapes are so beautiful. Why are they hiding these??"
I LOVE how sparingly SSJ is being used. Almost like a counter attack like in the last episode. It makes it so much more special and the fights more exciting slowly watching them escalate for a few seconds at a time until it all blows out. Wish it was used that way more like when Trunks switched between Ultra Trunks into SSJ2 when fighting Blue Vegeta using his ultra form for defense.
Goku can be such a lil devil at times 😂. When he transformed behind Glorio and you see Gokus hand on Glorios back like he's about to end his life 😂😂😂. Reminded me a bit of when he terrorized Frieza. I love those moments.
People complaining about slow pace can go piss off. Dragon Ball super felt like fanfiction this show is extremely good, Feels like a real dragon ball. The animation is spectacular!!
This was my favorite episode so far! I think maybe for anyone under the impression of this being “the first big episode of Daima” might be a bit underwhelmed but I loved the effects work and the drawings of mini SSJ Goku were great as well. I’m curious as to what Hirotaka Nii did as he’s on the credit list, but alas it may just ended up being redone by Nakatsuru. Great video as always Ajay and I really liked the breakdown of the storyboards with using the lines to convey the different angles!
@@youssafeJaja I say that because I saw some people saying they were underwhelmed on Totally Not Mark’s stream and admittedly, for a big episode, it’s not like a bunch of special names are involved (not to discredit Takumi Yamamoto and Gaku Yano by any means but Ajay said Yamamoto is kinda considered a main animator for the series and Gaku Yano participated often in Dragon Quest). It still looks great and like I said, it’s the most hyped I’ve been for the series so far, but to frame it as “the first big Daima episode” will get people’s expectations pretty high, especially with the quality we’ve been getting so far
Great breakdown, it surely was worth the wait. I didnt know who gaku yano was, but man he really is talented! Im really impressed by takumi yamamoto being a regular on daima he is a complete animator, from effects acting and fluidity, he can become one of my favourite! Nakatsuru nailed it with this correction One final question: do you know episode count?
Been waiting for this one, need to cleanse my palate from people hating on this episode on Twitter saying that GT looks better and DBZ subreddit constantly whining about how the art work is bad
Twitter/subreddit are a cesspool of garbage, but to say daima is amazing is ridiculous, the story is weak, the action and pacing of the story is extremely slow and alot of these concepts were done by GT/dragon ball.
im not gonna lie, i completely disagree with this one, while i thought it gave better camera angles, i hates yamamotos corrections to gokus face especially.
Ajay, aren't you just over-hyping the show...? 😅 Daima's animation is "good" for Toei's standard, and "ok" for modern standards. Enjoyable, but a far cry from the top ones from recent years really..
@im actually curious how you think this is as good as it should’ve been. Just looks at what Toei was able to do weekly for one piece. Dont blame me for being disappointed.
