The Humane AI Pin is here ..and.. it's weird. This is the first episode of a new format where I give my hot take and reactions to anything new happening in the world of tech, and today it's all about the newest (and first) gadget from hu.ma.ne: the AI pin.

I agree with most of your points man and it makes me realise it is very hard to come up with new tech, especially in this segment. You said it should be integrated into smart glasses for the projection, then people would be complaining about having to wear smart glasses as well. You said it should connect to your smartphone, then people would complain about it not being a stand-alone device. It's very hard to win! 😂 I think you're right, this isn't going to be very popular. An interesting proof of concept maybe but it won't sell imo

I agree with your assessment Enrico, and would add that there are a number of tech projects trying to innovate in a space that is about to get gobbled up with XR devices like foldable phones and the AI Pin you covered in this video. These companies would be far better off spending their millions on XR tech, rather than trying to offer an alternative that even today looks suspect at best.

This reminds me of Google Glass. Interesting niche product, premature technology, and really expensive. Their company introductory video shows those two co-founders with all the personality of The Adams Family. The marketing for this product looks terrible. That's why they have comments turned off on the introductory TH-cam post. Like Google Glass it will get a lot of free press and a fair amount of early adopters but long term I think this will be a noble failure and eventually, heavily price reduced.

The one thing this concept of a product is good for is ""discretely"" recording video. However, with the puny battery life, and the lack of a system to store all the GBs of footage, its just a shittier version of Alexa.
Also, by the time we have an offline ChatGPT 10.0 that can fit in a tablet or something, we will probably master the smart glasses stuff by then. But it won't matter at all if people are going to continue not trusting any personal device at all, and loathe "the Industrial Revolution and its consequences"

Most phones can do pretty much everything they pitch as value proposition to users. If the problem is that phones can be a distraction at times, well, I'll get a Nokia 3310 or switch my phone to focus mode. Did the team find out how easy it can be stolen in the streets? Truth be told, these things are pointless.

Thank you for sharing this product pitch video. It's certainly the next logical step and I share the technical excitement. I don't fully understand the "humane" aspect in their branding. What exactly is humane about this product? It projects on to your palm and the long term health effects of this are unknown to the best of my knowledge. It is placed very close to your body and this is known to have adverse health effects. In order to update the AI, you would most likely need to retrain the model every couple of years which could shorten the obsolescence cycle considerably. Lastly, it is REALLY expensive. For $699, you can get a small apartment in the Silicon Valley meaning that the price is comparable to rent in a posh location. This is definitely not humane.

It’s personal, portable, and does things our smartphone assistants can’t do (Siri sure can’t yet). It aspires to replace smartphones someday, but it looks like it’s a good smartphone companion product.
I like that it is a hands-free, better Siri that supports conversational type interaction. I can’t be the only one sick of the smartphone requirement of needing an app for everything.
Stop thinking of this as something that is supposed to be an immediate replacement for your smartphone because that’s an aspirational goal, not today’s capability.
I like this idea, but it’s expensive. It should not require independent cellular connectivity. It should tether or use WiFi instead.

This is a great idea, terrible market audience. This could be great to lower check out times at retail stores. Like charging people while they pick up stuff and put them in their carts when food shopping and not have to do a big line for checkout. Decrease theft in retail stores etc. Replacing a smart phone however? I think not.

Why are you claiming that the date given for the eclipse is a hallucination. When you look it up even NASA says that is the date of the next solar eclipse.

What if you’re not wearing a shirt…I mean did they not think of being outside (beach) and/or those shirtless moments?? No touch-less commands either - seems though I cant set the mood for my baths..pity.

Humane" just no. Are we sure these two were not fired from Apple for lack of common sense? I most definitely would never want to hear everyone's text, email, and messages read or summarized out loud by the same annoying AI voice and then responded to in person all around me. Yuk. Hearing talking out loud on cell phones in public is now thankfully rare. Remember when they first came out? Why is that? It is because we all HATE IT! The reason we don't verbally call anymore is none of us want to talk now that we do not have to! What about emojis, personalizing with caps, memes, attached pictures, links, video clips etc? How would we play video games while we are sitting around in a waiting room or a line? Text privately? Have multiple conversations running at the same time? Watch You Tube etc? Use GPS maps? Access our hand while we are driving or carrying things? And now I have to go home and spend a bunch of time on my actual computer managing this thing? Just why?

All i'm saying is that why we just have a device that peope will love freely just like how we embraced PC's and smartphones becuase they were better don't force a change on people when their not ready. Tbh i'm craving a new product that will come out of nowhere and we all use it

It’s a great idea but with bad marketing. If they sold this as an accessory like you said, I think it would be way more openly accepted. $24 a month should be a selling point like smartwatches have. The ability to use it like a phone, if your phone isn’t around.
This will never replace a phone in its current state because I can’t use social media, and I doubt I can see those lasers on my hand if it’s especially bright outside.
Still kinda want one not going to lie.

I enjoyed watching this objective breakdown. It seems like they failed to do enough user research, which is wild coming from former Apple employees. Maybe the tech is ahead of its time for when we won’t be reliant on our smartphones for visuals like we are now-similar to the mobile tech used in the movie H.E.R.? Eh..idk about that

Everyone who talks about this replacing their smartphone is deluded. The Apple Watch is pretty much the equivilent. You even have to do the same motion of raising yout wrist. The only thing that's cool about it, is the camera, But you can just get an Insta Go 3.

If all your life you have used your mobile screen vertically oriented, then you also have a clunky experience. Being a fashionista doesn't make your vertically oriented screen right, as mobile screens were never meant to be vertically oriented
