Loved this interview! The most generous part of my being wants to be convinced that all of the shortcomings reviewers have talked about (beyond mere performance & speed) are by design and I believe it was also their intention to offer an alternative to the phone, which requires making certain sacrifices. Perhaps it isn't possible for a device with direct access to social media not to suck you into a vortex. Interestingly, David Pierce did mention how using a flip phone made the act of opening said phone more intentional and he ended up using it less overall, and that perceived benefit he gained without having to sacrifice any utility! Ultimately, just like the ongoing fight against climate change, it is a struggle to try and convince people to pay more and get less, all in the hopes of fostering a better communal future. I believe in their fight and I do hope they stick around for a while.
Great interview, skeptical on the device generally but good to hear more about the vision from these guys. As a star trek fan its also cool to have something that has similar utility to the badges lol.
Great interview. Would’ve loved to hear more about the negative reviews, but the questions were well thought out and articulate. Great hearing about the thought process and I honestly hope they get this off the ground. It’s such an interesting product approach-wise.
The problem with the "AI Pin" is not the "Pin", it's the "AI". Just not ready yet for general computing. Kudos to the team for creating a great hardware and having to take the blame for the 3rd party AI service that is wrong half of the times.
exactly. the idea is good, but were not ready technologically. its really rushed, since were only in the start of AI. latency has to be countless times smaller; i think we will for sure be able to do this locally in 5 years
I don’t agree that AI isn’t ready for general computing. If you’re still using conventional services like old school Google search and outdated mobile assistants (i.e. Siri) then you’re missing the transformation and massive AI benefits. Look at services like Perplexity, and how incredibly powerful and accessible it is. You have turbo charged search and research at your fingertips. It saves massive amounts of time. AI Pin uses the same underlying platforms and technologies with customization to tailor the experience. They need to keep tuning it to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency. The transformation is actively underway and AI is more than usable right now. It’s on the verge on being a core part of all computing going forward. Go ahead and quote me on that.
Awesome interview! Do you have any guess as to what Humane’s next hardware device for Cosmos might be? I think a watch could be pretty cool esp with health sensors
All in all, we have creators that blindly believe in the usefulness and features of their product that just simply don't work. The biggest problem is that they position their product as a smartphone replacement, an opportunity to do away with the smartphone. But it is trivially impossible at this point in the development of the internet. You need a display and that's a fact. Buying through AI Pin you can't compare product prices, read product reviews, read store information and compare similar products and this is just one example. The internet and our interaction with it literally needs to change in order to use and implement this device. AI Pin will not be able to change the internet. As a dry residue we have a device that is the size of an Apple Watch, which is less powerful, has fewer features, is inconvenient to use, which runs out of battery faster and most importantly costs 700$(+25$).
Honestly people are so incredibly negative and angry about a product or typology that they have NEVER experienced before. Sheeeesh let something new come into the world, use it and then form an opinion. As far as I can see, it’s not a scam…let this thing develop
This idea seems and looks good on paper but in real world application it is lost. Unfortunately, this team really needs to pivot immediately, hopefully they can recover the investment capital. The future AI integration into mobile devices will and have already cannibalized this product. The only possibility might be to rework and market it as a safety device for small children. They should immediately remove the projector, but leave the AI, and configure as a child friendly companion. The AI camera system can monitor the environment and alert the child of any danger in the environment. Parents can access the cameras and microphones allowing them to see and communicate both with the child and the AI system. This could even be updated for elderly people, allowing families to engage with loved ones easier.
One of my favorite and most influential creators. So grateful the digital world brought me your awesome videos in a world filled with so much noise. Keep up the inspiring and important work!! 🫶
Here’s what’s annoying to me for the humane pin AND rabbit r1… I have ChatGPT4.. the voice is human like and personable… so fluid, personable sounding voice tech exists… for the life of me.. WHY don’t these companies use existing tech and apply human like voice?? Do they think we want that robotic voice???
There are Chapters (in description) that you can click which somewhat breaks the video into clips! I also post these on Spotify with chapters. I’ll consider a clips channel in the future tho !
@@julesterpak Oh thanks! Please do. Many podcasts have clips channels and it seems to work pretty well for them (viral clips, new followers ++). Also please consider posting on regular podcast platforms too for those not wanting to support Spotify :)
As stated in my description: “This interview took place before their launch day (April 11th) and before all reviews went live - hence why I included a montage of those in the beginning for context. I addressed the suspicions people had before launch day, but yeah, didn't yet have the context to discuss the critiques that arose after. Those will be addressed in my own review.”
@@julesterpak many valid concerns about Humane existed prior launch. You mentioned one - purchasing a book using the pin at 40:10. A very good question to which they gave a complete non-answer. Instead of asking a follow up question, you moved on.
@@gambee_ I also asked why they opposed positive reviews of Meta x Ray Ban’s smart glasses, why they went with a pin form factor, privacy concerns regarding talking out loud + hand on-screen, and pricing in comparison to competitors + iPhones. Just because I’m not bringing these things up in a demeaning tone doesn’t mean they aren’t being addressed. And I don’t need to hand-hold my audience. To an extent, I trust viewers/listeners to make their own opinions about if something is a non-answer - as you did. But yes, I agree that pushback is necessary in many contexts and I'll be more conscious of that in the future! My goal for this interview was to hit a wide range of topics so that, whether this product/company succeeds or fails in the future, people can at least learn from bits and pieces of their philosophy. The core aim of what I do is to curate/document digital history for the long-term. But again, will be more conscious of mixing in pushback and short-term discourse where it may be necessary.
@@julesterpak 1. It’s not holding “your audience’s hand” to ask follow up questions to nonsensical answers. 2. If your interview does not allow time for any follow up questions, you should probably rethink the interview schedule. This company got $230 million in funding by spouting a bunch of BS to VC suckers. They spouted that same BS during this interview and you didn’t call them out on any of it. That’s why I said it was a fluff interview and that’s why it was embarrassing to watch.
@@julesterpak I got a little mean there, sorry. I just get frustrated by the general lack of pushback by tech journalism to wild claims from these companies. It’s especially bad in the AI industry right now. Reminds me of crypto a few years back.
Be curious what their plan was on making it work, before multi modal llms were a thing. Back in 2017...

Just got mine on Saturday and enjoying it so far. Looking forward to all that’s to come! 👏👏
Are you still enjoying it? Are you using it from a reviewer perspective, or daily use as a consumer?
What's your opinion on it? amidst all the negative reviews, I'm curious what the actual customer review is.

Fluff interview for a terrible product. No pushback to any of the EXTREMELY spurious claims about what the pin can do. Embarrassing.
