I miss Toys R Us here in America. You could get all the rare items you wouldn't really see in a Walmart or Target in-store in Toys R Us. I've been thinking about planning a trip to Canada this summer mainly for that reason (and for tourism).
Reminds me of my childhood, a simpler time when mim snd dad had all the worries of life and i just got to walk round a toys r us store with great imagination. If i remember right they hsd different music in some isles. It rrally did emerse you. Great memories
My childhood Toys R Us! So glad it’s still there all these years later. I will never forget when they first opened many years ago & they had David Hasselhoff (aka Micheal Knight at the time) & KITT there for the grand opening. Well I was all set to go but I got grounded for some silly reason & my Mom would not let me go. I still bare the emotional scars of not getting to meet Michal Knight & KITT to this very day. Thanks for posting Micheal.
I liked the old Toys R Us lay out with the long aisles. The paper slips you needed to take to buy video games were something I remember fondly as well.
Oh man I used to trek out here when I was in undergrad at Waterloo. Picked up Animated Jetfire/Jetstorm and TF Prime First Edition Optimus and Cliffjumper. Thanks for the good memories!
I’m shocked at how much “stock” there is most cases the shelves are bare here in the US. You would see 1 or 2 people buy out that whole aisle and it be on eBay.
Awww... that was the Toys 'R Us from my Childhood. I still remember going there for special occassions (usually birthdays)... and bee-lining straight to the transformers/GI Joe Sections... In my memories, those aisles were endless...
Definitely tugs at the heart to see a physical Toys R Us again! Thank you Michael for showing this and makes me appreciate more what my childhood was full of when Toys R Us was still in the US. “I don’t want to grow up, because if I did, I wouldn’t be a Toys R Us kid”. Nerdmaste!
Bro so many mixed feelings watching this thank you I'm so glad you have your childhood toy store to revisit keep up the great work Mr mercy I'm not crying your crying 😢
Thanks for that slow-pan on the Transformers aisle. I went almost every weekend in the 1980s, with my dad and I certainly miss taking my kids to TRU in the U.S.
This morning I woke up and I looked at my TH-cam feed for toy news and to my surprise this video popped up and it was from Kitchener so I put it in my watch later section because I was super surprised and super floored that a TH-camr existed in Kitchener, then I went for a walk and I went past this house and in this backyard there was an older gentleman with is son and I spoke to them and they said they were getting the garden ready and I was walking by and talking. All the time I was anticipating coming home and watching this video. Well I finally made it home to check out the content and to see who Michael Mercy was and I think that Michael Mercy might have been the person I met on my walk today and didn't know this was his channel till later on when I looked at his picture and browsed some of his videos. So Michael did I say Hi to you this afternoon? Its super cool that you are from Kitchener. This is totally insane and awesome. Like it really is and it feels so exciting.
The Animal is a remake of the original 80's Animal trucks that had claws coming out of the wheels for better traction. As soon as the wheel would slip, claws would extend. Cool vehicles
This is the reply I was looking for. I had the little black Swamper truck from the line, but it died when it got wet unlike what the name would suggest. The toy commercial is a classic, it got all the love that most action figures got. th-cam.com/video/5W4MYJt8c4w/w-d-xo.html
You don’t remember the animal? It was that toy truck that had claws that came out of the wheels to make it climb. Or so it said in the 80’s commercial. “The A-ni-mal”, still remember the jingle but never had it, lol.
This brought back some really good memories. As a kid this was the place for me to get lost in. Thanks for sharing and maybe the U.S. can get some stores going again.
Edmonton here. We still have our toys are us as well but we didn’t get them till the mid 80’s so we had to go to Tops N Toys. I can still picture all the gi joes and transformers hanging on those pegs. I still haven’t met anyone who had the aircraft carrier.
I know this store so well before I moved to Woodstock this was my go to toys r us I still prefer to the one in London they don’t seem to update their stock as much as the Kitchener location
That was a really cool tour of Toys'R'Us store, it brings back some good memories of when we were young and loved walking in the toy aisles and seeing some awesome fun toys.
Now if only you could give us one of these, but after going through a time machine… Toys "R" Us 1985 virtual tour, anybody? :) That's the last era I remember having seen Toys "R" Us with a wall-to-wall Transformers aisle! But like you said in your very first toy museum video, the magic just isn't quite the same is it?
Someone recently posted a TRU shopping spree from 1986 on TH-cam. You never get a good look at the isles and the girl doesn't go into the action figure section, but it's something at least.
This is a sweet tour! My inner retail geek says, this store has a nice layout and seems well stocked. I definitely would love to go visit this store and the surrounding area someday. Thanks for the adventure.
All the glue.. it's purely because of slime.. those of us with young kids defintely understand.. because of this massive slime phenomenon going on.. Elmer's Glue is selling more glue than ever!
Thank you for this Michael Mercy. On a good note someone has bought the rights or something to Toys r us in America and is planning to open more stores hopefully soon or at the start of 2022. All we here in the states can have is hope.
There's nothing like being able to walk around in a Toys R Us and look at stuff in person as opposed to ordering it online. Those stores are greatly missed in the US
I believe this is the one The HOFF visited during the run of knight rider in the 80's next was Hamilton and that event got out of hand and had to be canceled
Toys r us for ever !! 😢❤😢❤
I loved going to TRU.. And my daughters did too. When my oldest was first learning to walk, I spent two hours in TRU, following her around and recording with my cellphone. Then I made a little video in iMovie. Six years later, I still love that little video. Now all we have is Walmart and a couple of aisles in Target. 😐
I’m blown away; I had no idea TRU existed outside the US. I thought they went bankrupt & shut down everywhere. 😳 This brings back memories of the late 90’s when my college buddy worked there; I popped in a few times a week to bug him and check for new Star Wars POTF figures. Those were great days. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Oh come on man you're going to make me cry, one of the two Toys R Us that were in a 50 mile radius of where I live got turned into a Harley-Davidson store and they kept the enter and exit door signs the same because they were Orange
My last walk through in Toys'r'Us in Thunder Bay was a little bitter sweet. Was great to just walk around and score some older waves of Siege and Earthrise Transformers, but the store overall had a "somber" feeling. You could feel it in the staff. They were trying to stay friendly but you could feel their worries in them. I was reminded of a Smallville episode when Clark returned to Fortress of Solitude after Jor-El abandoned it. Staying positive that people will support and embrace in person experience once things return to "normal". 🤞
Thanks for this therapy session Michael. Over here in Perth, we have no more Toys R us. Instead, now we Have ToyMate. Yes, ToyMate. We couldn't think of a better name. Pricey too.
Oh man, I would LOVE to go to a TRU right now. It’s hard for me to even believe the ones I would frequent back home are now closed. Thanks for posting this awesome piece of vicarious living 😀
Cool video! I remember going and seeing Star Wars sets and vehicles stacked almost to the rafters. The GI Joe isle was huge and all the Nintendo games. I sure hope they reopen these in the United States.
I feel really bad for some of the American kids and adults who can’t experience this, but I heard that Toysrus is re-opening in America which is good:)
G Michael I thought you would have you knew the animal that was a great toy back in the 80s it was around the time of stompersthe buttons on the wheels for the Claws to come out the animal can go over anything
Great video. Also my home TRU. I worked there for a few years in the late 90s. Action figures used to be in aisle 8C ride behind the bike rack! Lots of redesigns. Action figures are now in area that used to be a stock room area.
They are turning this toy r us store into a Scandinavian furniture outlet. I’m working here as an electrician right now lol. It’s completely empty big empty space where the toys once occupied 😢
Thanks Michael for this tour! I wonder where can I rent my educational toy in such a kids mall or somewhere else? I have a game-changer educational toy I invented, my aim is to rent some of it till I can afford manufacturing it in volume. It needs some tables and chairs (around ten) for kids where they can practice the toy. Thanks
im in kawartha lakes, toys r us is sorta close but is still hour and a half away. i haven't gone too one in like 2 years, but i remember walking in when i was super little running away from my parents into the Anna and Elsa section and bragging my parents to get me the Figurines😂
Maybe a strange question, but was toys r us the only toy store that mattered? I almost only hear people talking about this store , we never had a toys r us here in the Netherlands just a couple of small toy stores. Nice to see that you people have fond memories of this store!🤗
Wow, so cool to see what we could have if TRU was still in the states. Thanks for this, Mercy. Have they gotten any single carded Masters Origins yet? I'd like to think TRU would be a great place to get the new and reissued Ghostbusters toys if Walmart wasn't in the way.
Yeah, I imagine it's a bit like looking into an alternate dimension for people in the US. There were some single carded Origins here before, but they sold fast. Still some at Walmart though.
I miss Toys R Us here in America. You could get all the rare items you wouldn't really see in a Walmart or Target in-store in Toys R Us. I've been thinking about planning a trip to Canada this summer mainly for that reason (and for tourism).

“Toys r Us!”
Great reason to visit!

Amazing tour, I miss Toys R Us.
Awesome tour, thank you so much. It took me back to when my mom would take me once a month to choose a toy if I did well in school.
Thanks for the tour Michael! I live in Ontario to and I’m already missing Toys R Us
Me too!
I miss leaving my house
I always love the wonder and enthusiasm in your voice ! it’s awesome!
Thanks!

Absolutely so Rad! Thank you for sharing!
This brought back some really good memories. As a kid this was the place for me to get lost in. Thanks for sharing and maybe the U.S. can get some stores going again.

I drove an hour and a half to this tru to get my mp starscream when he came out. Love this place the ones near me never have anything im looking for.
I hope Toys R Us comes back and all over the world to open again when the pandemic is over I miss going to Toys R Us.

Outstanding! I love these type of videos! So glad at least some friends can still enjoy Toys-R-Us.😁👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Bill!
@@MichaelMercy Love those Emojis 👍
I feel like Galvatron in the animated Transformers movie: "Unicron! Why do you torture me?!"
Thank you for this Michael Mercy. On a good note someone has bought the rights or something to Toys r us in America and is planning to open more stores hopefully soon or at the start of 2022. All we here in the states can have is hope.

We don't have any true toy stores here since Toys R Us left just big box stores.
Thanks Michael I too live in Ontario and I'm missing going to toys r us already, missing hunting for transformers gi joe and marvel legends
Hang in there! 6 weeks until...possibly the next lockdown. lol
I believe this is the one The HOFF visited during the run of knight rider in the 80's next was Hamilton and that event got out of hand and had to be canceled
Holy smokes, looks like he *did* visit at the grand opening.

I miss Toys R Us, in the UK. On the rare occasion I got to go, it was like being taken to Disney World!
Wait so it's not just our country that Toys R Us shut down in?
God I miss actual toy stores in the US...
I miss going into stores, and leaving my house... thanks Ford for giving us the pleasure of a third wave
Thank you Michael, I needed this, such fantastic memories here in Boston of ours missed TOYS R US

This brings back memories of the late 90’s when my college buddy worked there; I popped in a few times a week to bug him and check for new Star Wars POTF figures. Those were great days. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Yeah, the Canadian stores were bought out by another company so they avoided the Toys R Us apocalypse in the UK, US and elsewhere.
Oh come on man you're going to make me cry, one of the two Toys R Us that were in a 50 mile radius of where I live got turned into a Harley-Davidson store and they kept the enter and exit door signs the same because they were Orange
