I head north of the border to Windsor Ontario to visit a Toys R Us store where in Canada they are alive and thriving. I discuss the history, rise and fall of TRU as I check out all the wonderful toys. Enjoy!

Yes, there is a store in the Mall of America that just opened and they are planning a couple more in 2024 but they have done this before in 2020 and It didn't last so my fingers are crossed but I am definitely hopeful that they stick around this time.

Was around Toys R Us in the Wii/Wii U/Early Ninjago era. Great time to be alive. Once our local started preparation for shutting down and started gating off lots of areas in the store, we went there and got a 20" Mario plush as an homage to the place, as that was something we used to always want as a little kid. Still have it and never plan on getting rid of it.
It's great that we have Toys R Us here in Canada. I do miss the Disney store (all removed here).
I hope they reopen both Disney Store and Toys R us for good in the u.s.a

That was a great walk down memory lane. Can't believe how high toys have gotten since I was collecting the toys for Toyland about eighteen years ago. Agree with your opinion on Funko. However, we do have a few in Toyland we found reduced really cheap. I think they will go the way of the Beanie Babies in the near future. Love the history part of Toys R US you did. I will have to look up your Fan Boy stuff now. Looks like some fun entertaining stuff. Timothy Koehler used to tell me about those segments when he was stopping by our Toyland.
Thanks Keith, Yeah it's unbelievable how much toys cost now. It really is. I was truly shocked by some of the prices there and even though they were in Canadian currency they were still outrageous. I see them a lot in my line of work and it's really unbelievable how much they go for. Yeah the old fanboy movie's back during the Star Wars club days were a lot of fun. We did them for about 2 years and had a blast while they lasted. It's hard to believe we started doing those over 15 years ago lol

I believe like 80% of my Skylander figures came from Toys R Us since it was on my way to work so I'd like buy 2 figures on Sunday. Picked up quite a few when they were closing too. Sadly when I moved across states the nearest one was a 45 minute drive.
I love that so many of us have fond memories of getting certain toys from Toys r Us growing up. I know I cherish all of mine. It's where I used to get all my GI Joe's and Star Wars figures and where I got my first Nintendo 🙂
Toys r us had the BEST skylanders displays at the time. Miss those days
Most of mine had to do with taking the slips for Pokemon games to go collect them to pay. Just walking in though and being immersed right away with such high shelves and full shelves at that felt magical as a kid. Nothing like it.

I'm glad to see it still open. It's like the McDonald's I found in Virginia, not a McCafe, an old McDonald's. Food was better.

We used to have a Chuck E cheese here in Windsor with a Studio C Beta. But it sadly closed in 2019. And know it’s a Indian Supermarket

We used to have a Toys Are Us here in Albany (New York) it closed sometime in the late 2010s. Sadly, now it is some home goods and furniture shop
Not to long ago maby a few months ago. I visited Plymouth for my 15th brithday and i saw a huge Toys R us store. The doors were open, the lights were on inside and the logo was still glowing. But nothing was inside. Just shelves and maby about 2 people. Idk what it was it was still open but nothing was inside.
I'm from a small town outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and we have a couple of Toys R Us's here. I actually think it would be fun to have a job at Toys R Us (even if it's with the night crew). My buddy and I went to a Toys R Us a while ago and we both geeked out and felt like we were kids again, lol.
And its not a spirit Halloween 😮 i knew had to be Canada. The memories not the same going down the aisle at target or Walmart. Still cool that these still around even if its in a different country
The original monster high go for a lot but the gen3 dolls currently popular but not as pricey. The remakes and skullector series are couple hundred dollars though as only so many were made. I'm a doll collector so I can relate to your daughter's obsession with them. Those and rainbow high
Our generation is actually found in target stores in America. They are just the cheaper version of 18inch American girl dolls. American girl Dolls are internationally known.our generation is not made by the same company just modelled in the same way. They actually have hard upper bodies versus AG dolls that have soft bodies.

I wasn’t in the 80s. I wasn’t in the 90s. I wasn’t in the 2000s I was 7+ months before the 2010s started
They actually have a home base full size store in NJ and the mentioned store at Mall Of America. I don't really count the sections at Macy's as real locations but the plan was to have 30 full sized Toys R Us U.S. stores opened in 2024 in time for the holiday season but still waiting to see if that pans out. The stores in Canada are owned by a totally different company with no affiliation with the U.S. company.
of course no slot car isle. Race track isle was my favorite. I was hypnotized looking at the huge isle of stacked slot car track sets.

Yeah, that just opened and wasn't actually open when I filmed this technically. However, that is in a mall and not a standalone store like this one. But I'm hoping it will grow and maybe next year we'll actually get a standalone Toys r Us in the USA again!

Saw that the original toys r us look ones that are still holding strong are independently own and not own like the ones in North America. They have in other countries that much cooler as will.
Sucks that the North American version today one is nothing crazily cool with the old nostalgia feel anymore though. It just feel like other normal toy store only now. Sucks that there are no longer video games and tech section anymore. It also doesn’t have cool toys like it use to anymore. Miss when you can get cooler things there like Tsum Tsum collection figurines and blind toys collection. North America is always a fail when the store is doing bad or it’s reviving again. Can never have that original feel again.

Funko Pops are popular because they offer niche shows and genres some merchandise where there typically isn’t much representation. The designs are whatever, but I’d rather have that little token of my favorite niche tv show that no one knows about instead of nothing. Right?

Same! I got my Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway 2015 Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel at my local Toys R Us! As a collector, I can confirm that I got my 2015 Wooden Railway stuff from the Toys R Us on 28th Street, about a couple blocks away from the former Showbiz Pizza located there

Oh I know I've definitely seen it. And yeah I do think it's cool that properties like CEC and certain obscure movies can finally have figures because of Funko. I just wish they were cooler looking figures if they were going to be the biggest toy line of all time is all, but it doesn't mean that I won't own several. I'm sure they're just never going to be my favorite toys, unfortunately ☺️

Gosh this video almost makes me sad. I miss taking my kids to Toys R Us before they went out of business back In Pittsburgh. Those are days I will never get back or re-live now that they are no longer in the US.
Well we have our first TRU mall store that just opened at the Mall of America since 2018. So we'll see if it can take hold and grow in the US again.

Sorry, misunderstood the original post, I thought The post was referring to the new Mall of America store. Either way, both of those are mall stores and this is a standalone and these were the ones I grew up going to and have fun memories of and I hope these are what will begin opening up in the US again soon.
Toys R Us is way overpriced, to be fair. I am looking at these prices and I see the same thing in target for like 70% of the price, if not less.
I miss being in the old Toys R Us locations but at least having a Toys R Us in Macy's is better than not having a Toys R Us that's not out of business but still i grew up in 2006 and i used to go to Toys R Us for my birthday every year even since the day I was born and my brother loved Toys R Us and even so as my parents and even sadly my Toys R Us location in Carle Place Commons is now demolished and just turn into HomeSense and Planet Fitness in Carle Place Shopping Center and yes Toys R Us had been in Carle Place Shopping Center since 1977 and even also Rest In Peace Charles P Lazarus ( one fun fact Toys R Us has the name R Us from Charles Lazarus last name lazarus )

Yep I'm definitely hopeful it happens. They tried in 2020 but unfortunately it didn't last. We do have a couple of mall stores open outside of Macy's TRUs so that's at least a start. We'll see if we can finally get some standalones this coming year that actually make it 🙂
@@SetsStreetsEats they are opening one, if they haven’t already in Terminal A of the Dallas airport. They are slated for 24 brick and mortar stores. Exciting times. My hometown Toys R Us would shut down when I was a child to allow Michael Jackson to shop. I’ll never forget having that happen, of us getting ushered out so he could private shop. LOL

@@supersmashmaster43 Also, I'm currently maybe 25 mins from his Neverland Ranch. I got to go out there as a child with my entire grade school class and parents and what not. It was pretty common to see him running around town and what not. In fact when he went to court for the whole child weird stuff, it was in our hometown court. I remember looking out our living room window and seeing him waiving to everyone from the black suv.

I hear people saying that they are bring back Toys R Us to the United States, but I have seen where Toys R Us has returned at and I will not accept it!!! Toys R Us was never part of another store and when they finally bring it back like it is in Canada, then I will return... but until that happens, I'm rejecting their version of it in the United States... because that is not a true, real Toys R Us... that's a cheap knock-off!!!
