    Forgot to mention, the drone footage was brilliant, just need work on not spilling the claret😆. All the best.

    For retrieving the drone, fly a few hundred meters upwind and "park" it just off the windward side of the bow. Then sail the boat to the "parked" drone, avoiding the shrouds, of course, lean out and grab the drone. If you miss, simply fly ahead again and repeat. Obviously easier with a second pair of hands, but much more controlled.

      I'll give that a try but I might have to slow down for the landing. Thanks

    You might try a net to catch that drone. Better than getting cut to bits.

    Always thought I´m crazy, but You do really wild, one foot on the open inlet is really cool 😂👌👍
    I like Your pragmatic way of construction, looks beautiful, and hope Your arm healed quick (video is soon a year old),
    and keep going with Your youthfull spirit, I love it!

      Thanks for the compliment. We must be both a little crazy. Glad you enjoyed. Hope to get some more vids done soon.

    Oh man. Commitment with the drone. I’ve seen the fastnet drone guys just fly them straight into the cabin but they probably have many spares. Two person job or stall boat.
    Glad I saw this. I am forewarned as I was thinking about doing the same thing. Hope the arm heals up nicely

      Yes best with 2 people. Need two hands on the controller. I've been flying them for a while but landing on a moving boat by yourself is asking for a loss.

    There is nothing wrong with the Monitotor corrugated plastic vanes. Surely the vane you built is more stout but it will not work well in light winds because of the additional weight. I make double sized vanes out of extremely light plywood and they help the vane keep working in very low winds. They eventually get snapped in gusts so I just make up 10 at a time.

      That's good to know. Hard to find light weight plywood. In Fiji it's heavy weight. I made some from ply before I left Australia. Will keep as spares but will keep an eye for some light weight. What thickness are yours?

    Great Stuff, mate! Adore your video logs. When next working on your boat, mount a cam on the stern somewhere that captures all your action, in addition to any mobile shots.

      Thanks Anthony. Yes will do the camera mount on the stern.

    Absolutely excellent content! It looks like you may be in Namadi Heights in Suve, I am originally from 3 miles (down the hill). Love your work but was particularly disgusted with the derelict long liners and the filthy Suva harbour water. I hope to sail one day! Cheers!

      Thanks Kuki. Yes the harbour is a mess. So many sunken boats . They are a Hazzard. Alot are also abandoned or not seaworthy.

    Somehow, my earlier comment and your response to it, seem to have disappeared from the video's comments section. 😲☹
    It complimented your work on the self-steering gear, and mentioned in passing how I particularly enjoyed your videos, as I'm originally from Fiji (now in Perth, WA), etc.

    Can you give us an idea of the cost of dock fees and what that includes in your part of the world?

    Hydrovane.... simplify your life.

    • @captainscarlegs3621
      @captainscarlegs3621  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a hydrovane would be my preferred gear but this one came up for $250

    • @vagabondroller
      @vagabondroller ปีที่แล้ว

      Hydrovane is great but for a boat this size in heavy weather, the Monitor is clearly better.
