    Genius is not something which one possesses, but something which one is possessed by. I’m pretty sure you’re a genius of sorts Mose. Be safe and happy. I love your videos. They’re a sort of therapy!

    Very impressive Sailor, keep working you have proven your concept no work on SS parts that won’t corrode after one season at sea, good luck from the Left side of Canada 🇨🇦

    Takkkk my friend !
    I've been wanting to make one of those for a while, I've been through countless videos over the years but yours is definitely the best one so far !
    I have an outer rudder but I think this design would work best anyways.
    I've brought my boat in Norway and I loved biltema when I was there hahaha I'm now sailing through Europe, I've fixing been fixing up my boat in Ireland for 2 years and next summer head down south!
    Thanks for the motivation and the ideas !
    Fair winds to you !

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh great!! Thank you!! 😀 Yes the trim tab I supposed to be very good but will make it harder to go backwards. So maybe this can be a good idea anyways! I don't know if it will interfere with the streams created by your rudder somehow but it's very cheap to build so no harm in trying! 😊

    As a fellow self steering self designer/builder I think your time to build is very accurate.
    your lock down mechanism is great! it's actually better than what I see on many commercial models.
    Height definitely helps a lot for a horizontal axis wind vane, because you get longer leverage.
    What happens when the boat is heeled? will the wind vane cause an adverse effect?

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks!! Yes I have to give Bertil credit for the locking mechanism! It's very good.
      When heeled I need to adjust the turnbuckle to make the wind paddle stand up. That's the only thing I've needed to adjust, apart from the angle and the sails of course. Maybe the steering ratio could be better too and the paddle higher too as you said. But then I need to raise the solar panels a bit. :)

    Brilliance at its best! Please be safe Mose, I worry about you accidentally tripping on all of those ropes. I don't think Atris would do very well manning the ship alone!😆

    Awesome idea and awesome price for a wind vane. I might try this myself for my catamaran

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes!! No risk in trying. I will make the wind paddle higher to get more leverage, but I have to rethink my solar arch a bit too for that! But it already works in some conditions, but of course I want it working in all conditions a wind vane can work! 😎

    This is definitely the way to go. Years ago I bought a 28ft yacht which had a wind vane attached. I took it off and put it in the garage for 5 yrs. Then couldn't work out how to put it back on, so I sold it for next to nothing. What an idiot.
    Later, I discovered the mainsheet to tiller method using medical tubing as the rubber 'return' method. Its good because you can add as many bits of tube as you need to counteract the windstrength. And its cheap.

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice boat by the way. Im thinking about windvanes myself (only 2 years now). I like your mechanisms and now I saw your Ideas I want/will push it more to a pendular version (if possible). Cheers from Belgium. ps : my goal is to place it on a small trimaran (F22)

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great idea!! It's a bit more maybe but let me know if it works! It could probably be able to just tilt the bottom part back and forth! That would work! It's probably more reliable like that. I need to raise the wind paddle for more leverage on mine. But it works in certain conditions. I don't know all the conditions it should work. 😅

      @@happygoluckyland , im looking at many videos now and i found this video wich is quite interesting. The guy is using a morse cable or bowden cable to transfer the linear movement of the vane to rudder tab. they use this kind of cable to controle outboard engines. This avoids all the complicated linkages. Cheers th-cam.com/video/fsq5WJ4ySdQ/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks Mose! How do you do the anchor maneuver with the stern anchor and the lines on the island? Can you do a tutorial on how to do it single-handed? Or does Atris help you? 😊

    • @happygoluckyland
      @happygoluckyland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha yes I have been thinking about it. But I haven't yet really nailed a procedure. It requires a very calm place, slow speed and me running back and forth with the anchor rope. I go back tie it and hope I can reach land. Sometimes it's not enough and I bounce back 😅 but I have one trick up my sleeve on my boat. It's that I can remote control my electric motor. So I can adjust the speed from the bow as well. That comes in very handy when doing it singlehandedly!

I think it takes a while to wrap ones head around how it works but then it's really not that complicated! 😊

    Good project and yet people doesn't seem to ask you some diagram to build one, rather than feedback there's only adulation when you have brought this simple setup and every commenter here should have built one and sharing the design .. I have downloaded plenty of wind vane designs that later they tried to monetise and don't remember much but this looks ok and you can publish it in THINGIVERSE or hackaday, etc and receive useful feedback from people that builds them.
    Be safe and sail with people and harness and you could try purposed sailing bringing cargo or removing ghost nets,etc
