Celebrating 50 years of Shabana Azmi in Indian and International Cinema

The powerhouse of Indian and International cinema completes 50 years!
NYIFF 2024 celebrates Shabana Azmi, the internationally acclaimed film and theatre actress who believes art should also be an instrument for social change. She has won five National Film Awards for Best Actress, three of them in a row, which is an unprecedented feat. She has also won five international awards for Best Actress. The veteran actress is also highly respected as a social activist and tireless campaigner for women's rights, slum dwellers, and the underprivileged.
To celebrate her inspiring journey, we are screening her pathbreaking film 'Fire' starring Nandita Das, Javed Jeffrey, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, directed by Deepa Mehta. The film won Shabana Azmi, the Best Actress Award at the Chicago International Film Festival and the Los Angeles OutFest.
Following the screening is an unmissable conversation with Shabana Azmi and renowned filmmaker Mira Nair.
