HMAS Leeuwin (A 245) Departing Cairns Harbour for Coral Sea (double speed)

‪@shipsintropicaloz‬ Survey ship, HMAS Leeuwin is 71 metres long, has a STN Atlas 9600 ARPA navigation radar, C-Tech CMAS 36/39 Sonars, an Atlas Fansweep multibeam echo sounder, an Atlas Hydrographic Deso single beam echo sounder and capacity for an AS 350B Squirrel Helicopter. With less than half of the area around Australia surveyed to acceptable standards, these survey ships greatly reduce this figure, making passage of vessels safer and help to protect Australia's ocean environment.
