  • Zhen Wei Academy Mizong quan (yan qing quan), jin ji dou (Golden Roosters Fighting)
    Two person set from the Mizong Quan system performed by Master Lu Zhenduo and Zhang Haichen in 1961. This form gets some stick from the those that are at a low or intermediate level in their martial arts journey or aren't familiar with traditional Chinese martial arts (believe me as a young Thai boxer of only 5 - 10 years experience I felt the same).
    Mizong quan it's fair to say has some dance like qualities, this may be due to it being a fighting system not originated in the ring and having techniques adapted and shared with weapons combat (in this I mean that movement is often preferable to standing toe to toe, when dealing with multiple attackers and weapons, being able to move with lightness and then hit like a truck are some of the things that make Mizong such an interesting style to learn, and if you are going to move then moving with the agility of a dancer is a decent place to start). It may also be due to them wanting to have some form of display aspect to the taolu which is the case of this demo, this was done for display after all. Unfortunately a lot of people miss the techniques within the form and only see the skipping around because the techniques are being countered before they are completed, which is one of the aims of the 2 person sets, the ability to flow into a counter as soon as you feel the technique being applied (this is only one way of practicing it).
    What a lot of people don’t know is that Lu Zhen duo (around 60 years old here) was well know for his combat ability being a Chinese Lei Tai champion and bodyguard and had a lot of fighting experience.
    The truth is every move within the form has application, they are just difficult to see, and so a form like this will get lumped into the it doesn’t work, looks silly, it’s modern wushu bracket, which it certainly isn’t. Find out more at mizongkungfuandtaichi.weebly.com

      @@borgiskhan I don't know about Mizong but I just meant two man Kung Fu forms in general. Each movement is choreographed in a exaggerated manner that seems unrealistic but I find slow back and forth between partners demonstrates the potential movements without unnecessarily hurting one another. Each person taking turns on what moves could be used but hidden in a dance. What I saw was a spinning backfist into a front kick combination, back and forth arm locks and grappingl, some trapping, a nice low stomping kick to the ankle, a leg catch countered by a neck snap/twist, countered by some qinna wrist lock, and on and on and on. If you dont know what you are looking for this could be mistaken for ballet but when you look closer there are some brutal fighting going on.

    So why is it called "lost track"?

    • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      An extract from our website may explain it "It is often claimed that Mizong may date back as far as the Tang dynasty. Some say it was created in the Shaolin Temple by a monk named Lu Junyi who fused Shaolin techniques with neigong. This master is said to have become famous both for his skills and for his unwillingness to take on students. The legend says that a young man called Yan Qing joined his household as a servant and spied on Lu while he was practising, secretly studying and copying him. One day while working in the fields, Yan Qing was forced to defend himself and the other servants when they were attacked by bandits. His secret was out, but rather than scold him Lu Junyi rewarded him by taking him as his sole disciple and training him properly. Yan Qing eventually took many followers himself, which they called Yanqing Quan in his honour, but were forced to change the name to Mizong Quan or “secret sect boxing” when they considered that both he and Lu Junyi were hiding from the authorities at the famous Water Margin bandit hideout of Lian Shang. Whilst hiding there he is said to have once evaded capture by leading the government troops who pursued him through a confusing maze of false trails. This is why one branch of the family writes the art in the characters Mizong Yi, or the “art of lost track”. This name is also often offered as being an allusion to the footwork in Mizong, which is deliberately deceptive." mizongkungfuandtaichi.weebly.com/mizong-kung-fu.html

      I've read this legend before. Lu Junyi is a fictional character from the novel "Water Margin". I guess the real historical reason for the name is lost to time.@@borgiskhan

      @borgiskhan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, there is so much that is lost. We can only go back as far as Sun Tong historically, and even his story, ending up in the Shaolin monastery, sounds very similar to many martial stories, so how true it is, is anybody's guess. • @borgiskhan
      @borgiskhan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I understand, Xu Xiaodong didn't focus on leitai champions and bodyguards which the older chap here was. He did challenge those that made extreme claims, and those they are now calling fake masters. I know he took on wingchun and tai chi proponents, neither of which are known to have had great success in full contact matches in China, that being said I know wingchun and tai chi practitioners that fight well. We really shouldn't look at a form done for display purposes and judge it on the combat efficiency of the practitioners and system.

      @@borgiskhan it seems to be MMA is the lithmus test for any system. I have tried to find MMA fighters who used wingchun only and found nothing. Well, the forms here showed that the Chinese martial arts is not "for show"; it is the "modern sports rules" that destroyed the Chinese martial arts, and the Chinese martial arts schools keeping the tradition after the communist liberation had place the idea for Kungfu is just something for the stage show into the minds of the practitioners making things worst.
    Traditional kungfu is art for the battle field, even though Jet Li himself has made many disgrace comments on Kungfu, but he had some finest training as well; the only thing is that his aim was to make money, quick and lot of them, so he naturally lean toward stage display, and his training for the kungfu spear actually overloads his body and caused injuries, unfortunately, the kungfu spear is for the battle field, it requires armored warrior to have real battle field experiences and set off the desire to live and fight through real life and death situation in order to off set the body tension during the training, due to the wrong picking of the direction, Jet Li was heavily injury due to over training or wrong training directions.

      Well, the drill isn't' meant for fighting, it's made for self defense, like a thug jumping you. That's why the drill has so many joint locks and escaping from joint locks. Fighting is basically two people squaring off, apple and oranges.

      Lol, it's true if you don't know what you're looking for it does look very dance like, but then when fighting and especially when dealing with weapons you want to be very light on your feet and agile. This form can be trained lots of different ways and broken down into it's individual techniques which are often quite brutal, but then Lu Zhen Dou who was around 60 here was an experienced fighter, being a former bodyguard for General Zhang Xue Liang and former all China lei tai champion as well as having to hold his own with the Japanese soldiers that occupied China in the 2nd Sino-Japanese War.
