I'm in the middle of my fuel plant. How I skipped most of the canister belting shenanigans is I just made them vertically modular. 1 pump into 2 water packets, 1 water packer into 1 diluted fuel refinery + 1 heavy oil. So if I ever want to add to the system say an extra 2 normal oil nodes I just add to the ends of the build. Purple fluids get pumped down and packaged fuel gets belted up to the packers on the top floor. And empty canisters go right back into the water packers. Everything is 1 to 1. Everything is lined up perfectly so it's all straight up/down for belting or piping.

no, I will probably end up building a separate power plant if I need to before nuclear power. maybe using in one of the new fuels or turbo fuel.
if you end up doing that, I can recommend rocket fuel with the Nitro rocket fuel alt recipe
I think I built a diluted plant in the same place, a great place for it.
