Dancers' Corner is back babehs! Took a little hiatus to figure out what the heck I wanted to do with this series- thanks for your patience. Today we chat about how to return to dance after a break. Maybe you are returning to dance after an injury or maybe you are switching dance studios and had a gap between enrollment... It's never "easy" to start dancing after you took time off, but it's absolutely possible and even positive if you approach it with the right mindset. Enjoy this advice for dancers and let me know if you are someone who is coming back to dance after a bit away :)

I really needed to hear this. I haven’t been in the studio since the pandemic started and I’ve been down thinking about the fact that it’s such a setback in my progress. I’ve been practicing at home, but it’s not the same. I need to keep an open mind and have that acceptance from here on out.

Thank you Auti! This video really helped me, especially the last few words. "Dance will always be there for you when you're ready to return." I just very recently took a month break and I felt bad but I realized, I needed it. I am recovering from some injuries and your words about sustainability really made me feel better. I need to be open minded to taking breaks and resting and that that's okay. It's never to late to start over. ❤️

Thank you so much for this! I danced from age 4-10 and then I took a break and started again in a studio at 15 and now I’m 17(close to 18). I just have to say this is right on time because I have hip dysplasia and am now facing serious surgery and a estimated lengthy recovery and I have to keep the faith that I will get back to the level I am at currently and improve more after the surgery. Dance is within me and makes up who I am and I’m determined to not let this stop me from pursuing my passion of dance!❤️💃🏽🩰🎼

I recently suffered a severe muscle pull in my hip flexor last and hamstring. I have been out of dance for a month now and missed 3 competitions. I was told today that I can’t do my kicks, leaps, splits, or tricks in dance for at least another week and I have a comp this weekend. I am still tap dancing when tolerable and doing some dancing like turns. It have been challenging getting back because I am scared❤️I love your energy it makes my day much brighter.

You could replace “dance” with “work” and “break” with “a baby” and i swear this is great advice - the self-acceptance, trying new things, fresh start, focusing on how your body feels and being a different person. 👏 A+

i stopped right before middle school started, totally regret it because i never stopped loving dancing or gymnastics but just gave up, i want to get back into it before high school starts and regain my flexibility but i feel like i might’ve lost my advancements and skill set and am afraid to start back at classes, i don’t want to start back from the beginning but my age group would be more advanced and i would get set back, currently feeling defeated

You should start again, it will only get harder to as time goes on. You might have to work twice as hard as everyone else to catch up to their level, but think about how much you’ll regret it if you don’t.

I also played volleyball all throughout elementary and middle school! I also did gymnastics and did a lil bit of guitar playing and I sang in a school choir 😄 But dance was always my priority and number one love! ❤️ Words can’t express what your channel means to me. Your personality makes this channel even better by the way! 😉 Everything you said about going back to dancing after a hiatus is so spot on! I thought to myself “maybe I’m too old to start again” when I was around 20 - which I realized now how stupid I was!! Haha you are NEVER too old!! Especially when you’re in your twenties!

i started dancing at the age of 6/7 taking ballet and jazz classes (2 years respectively going on for 4 years) at my local dance studio. in 2017, my mum pulled me out of that studio due to personal reasons. i wouldn’t say i was the strongest dancer in dance level at time, in fact probably one of the weaker ones due to physicality and size (i was chubby and still am). this kinda restricted me from doing moves such as multiple pirouettes, leg extensions or a lot of acro moves. however, i was in my school’s dance troupe (which was heavily jazz based) in 2016 and 2019. between that time, i tried to self-teach myself other styles such as hip-hop and contemporary but i felt as if i was a bit floppy. in late 2018, i got interested in kpop and started learning kpop dances but i felt as if they were a bit too easy for me. however after started high school, i became very inconsistent and would be very on and off with dance. i would still boast to everyone saying im a “mainly self taught dancer” but now looking back at all my favourite dance shows such as the next step, dance moms and more, seeing people younger than me who are already professional dancers or those who were already professional dancers around my age, kinda made me realise: i never was a dancer and i never will be again… or so i thought. thanks to you, im trying to look for dance studios again but im bit too scared to rejoin…
