  • Dave Savko of Ellicottville, NY shares his family pisanki tradition passed down from his Mom. Using a straight pin and melted wax, David writes symbols of resurrection and renewal on an egg. Part of St Casimir's Family Heritage Series; "From Table to Altar and Back". Documented by Daybreak Productions thanks to a seed grant from the Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College, Buffalo, NY.

    I love this! My great grandmother did this style that she brought from the old country and passed it to my grandfather, who has passed it down to me.

    This was an excellent demonstration! Dave created these beautiful eggs with very simple tools. I especially liked the tradition of giving away the eggs at Easter time to friends and family.

    I wish I had had my relatives teach me this while they still could have. Now they're gone. And this died with them. :( Here he is doing these eggs just like my aunt used to. Well done! They're beautiful. Wish you were closer to give lessons.

    What is the ratio of the amount of bees wax to the paraffin wax that you use? Interesting to watch.

    What are you using for the egg dye? Your colors are deep. What beautiful artwork.

      Chemical analine dyes available online via the Polish Art Center Hamtramack, MI or some better craft stores.
