    Allsång basically means everyone sings. It's a singalong lead by a presenter on stage in a place called Skansen in Stockholm. Famous bands and singers are invited as guest singers and the entire audience sing.

    Also, in 1997 we had a reform that made us able to buy computers cheaply. By using a gross salary deduction we could buy them for very favourable prices so almost every family had a computer and an internet connection at home.
    This made Sweden the top technological country in the world at the time. Almost all kids could experiment with music programs and other fun stuff at home.
    That is also why very many of the big IT and computer inventions comes from Sweden. Sweden is also very big for its size in gaming and many other computer related phenomena.
    Even old folks knows how to use a computer, my 90 year old grandma use them daily.

    If you wanna hear Swedish melanchollic music at its peak, you should check out the pop-rock group *"Kent"*
    Most of their songs are in Swedish but they were actually so damn popular that some of their Swedish songs broke through internationally and they rewrote them into English.

      @@dwaynesviewno not just in the UK Robby Williams was enormously successful all over the entire in the entire incident of europe Europe even in Russia he had filled entire stadiums at his live tours. The same also in Australia and new Zealand as well as japan and china (im at least think to remember reading about his success in China back in the days) the only place rejecting him entirely was the US (even Canadians, South Americans and South Africans know at least a few song of him especially famous ones like „feel“, „let me entertain you“ „Rock DJ“ „angels“ and she is the one“
      Also just to let you know, the UK has not a population of 80 million (Germany as 84 million, the second largest populated country in the entire European after russia with 143 million) the United Kingdom has „only“ 67 million inhabitants same as France (even there both countries can not stop to competing against each other, resulting in almost every year the ranking between 3rd and 4th place as the country with the 3rd the largest Population changes between thee 9:00 both countries

    Allsång på Skansen wasn't broadcast on TV until the 70s I think, we didn't have TV in Sweden until 1956 so it would have been impossible. The first 40 years or so maybe it was broadcast on the radio, or it was just for the people there at Skansen. The program isn't a competition, I don't know any other english word than sing-along (here it was called unison sång/song before the word allsång became popularised I think)? Everyone (on stage and in the audience) sings a long to popular songs, does not have to be pop, also a lot of visa, and probably other genres to. Choir and singing together over all is HUGE here! Competitons is not the biggest part, it's community, sharing love of music, dancing, festivals, stämmor (hootenanny?), musicans and lots of people gather to play traditional Swedish folk music and so on....

    • @GuinevereKnight
      @GuinevereKnight ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So much is not really understood here if one just looks at the last decades.... Yes we have a big music scene here as well and you can make a living out of that, not all our biggest artists are famous internationally either. Before ABBA almost all of our performers could perform around Sweden, the Nordic countries, Germany possibly. And Robbie Williams was huge here and probably in a lot of places in the world, how can a brit miss that?! He was in Take That!

  • @vansting
    @vansting ปีที่แล้ว +13

    The melancholic melody fits the Swedish language and since the Swedish language is so close to english it fits right in. To be correct it’s actually the english language that is close to the Scandinavian languages “Old Norse had a strong influence on the English language (even in present day) and this is why some scholars insist that English has its roots in this Scandinavian language.” I bet that is something for you to look up for a coming video! Your welcome! 😏

    I think Sweden has the most choir singers per capita, if I remember correctly. Choir singing is big here anyway.
    Melodifestivalen has become too big. There are too many competitions. I recommend that you only watch the last one, it still lasts several hours.
    I continue to recommend the documentary "flat pack pop". It goes deeper into, above all, the company Chevron studio that, among others, Max Martin and others who wrote billboard winners worked at. It is a documentary that changes one's entire view of the pop world

    Allsång på Skansen (sing-along at Skansen) started in 1935, but wasn't broadcasted until 1979. Television in Sweden started in the 1950s, btw.

    My guess why Swedes are very successful in a lot of areas is going back to 1846 when the guild system was abandoned. From then on everyone had the right to work in any profession they wanted. And since then we've had a quite different mentality where our companies are very flat and not very hierarchical. Everyone is not only allowed to but also expected to be a decision maker in some way. From that comes creativity, regardless if you are producing cars, music, weapons, fighter planes, technology and so on.

  • @MrJapanApan
    @MrJapanApan ปีที่แล้ว +5

    A few more reasons:
    1: Swedish people are usally very dedicated. If we do something we go all in. (same as Japanese people but we have a better support system when it comes to music)
    2: The support system(music schools) give you practical skills and with a strong welfare system you can take a chance at a career without fearing starving to death or getting evicted. There is also strong encouragement which gives confidence which is important but also allows you to do your own thing, think outside of the box. The driving force is to make music that makes you happy, not that make you rich.
    3: Im sure you have heard about Law of Jante. Its basicly the essence to stay humle. And being humble gives many benefits: A: dont think you are the shit just becouse you made one semi-popular song. Keep working. B: You become more openminded and learn new things which evolve your skills and style. C: You work well with others, a big reason why swedish producers are so popular. Again: if you have fun creating the result will be better.
    4: The video already talked about this, but our (musical) culture is based on melody. Similar to african music which is usally based on rythm.

      May i add to your already good explanation(which it on the spot) that our school system is far better then many others by having mandatory english from the very beginning in our school system. That helps a lot learning a world wide language spoken almost everywhere on the planet.

    Interesting reaction. And I do believe there’s a lot to us loving music. Among my families and friends, my dad played the piano and acoustic guitar, I play the piano and guitar as well as write songs, both my wife and I have sung in choirs independently of each other, my sister plays the piano, one brother in law has a rock band and all their kids play instruments and sings, so does all the kids of a third brother in law, another is quite a good DJ, I’ve written songs with friends, my kids are learning to play the piano, my son has a fantastic talent for singing and all my kids listen a lot to music. Nowadays I learn a lot about new artists and songs from them. So music is a big part of our lives.

  • @torbjornulrichs8570

    He is missing the point. The reason is why Sweden is good in music is, when I was a kid, there was the communal music school. For almost no money we could learn how to play an instrument. Almost all of us did. I learned how to play the trumpet. It could potentially been an issue of buying a trumpet for my parents But the first 2 years I could borrow one, before I decided that trumpet was my instrument. Exposing how old I am, later I started a punk/ska band. To do that we formed a study group of music with the 5 members. We got money from the government to "study". The point is Swedish goverment went wide and broad, some of us made it, some others like me had fun, then became engineers or lawyers or something like that.

    I remember once buying an album by a Swedish rock band called Opeth and it had two discs. One of them was in English and the other one was in Swedish, so this must be very common for artists and bands to release an English version and a Swedish version of their albums.

    • @Tim_Nilsson
      @Tim_Nilsson ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It isn't actually common at all.
      If we take Opeth for an example only one of their thirteen studio albums have also been released in Swedish.
      So the one you bought. =P
      Sabaton has likewise released one of their ten albums in Swedish.
      That was the "Carolus Rex" album which was about the rise and fall of the Swedish empire so it made sense because of the topic.
      I'd say most artists makes a choice early on and sticks with it.

    Minor scales come naturally to me when I compose. And yes, the musicality of the language itself help too. It's also quite interesting to compare the swedish music scene with f x the dutch since the countries have the same amount of people, the languages are quite similar, we both are good at english but there aren't that many international dutch success stories coming from the Netherlands so I bet the combination of the theories in the video is the answer.

    Sweden might have great musicians, but we've also got a lot less people to separate genre from genre.
    Due to our small population it is much easier to be innovative and influential as less people are likely to have thought about new sounds and genres, and thus they gain more attention for creating things that less people has thought about before. So it gets a little easier to stand out with your own sound among the rest. I.e. higher creative freedom of expression.
    However, the UK is great at branching out, and expanding genres and also is leading in the development of music and popular culture and stuffs. The french are great at it too, but not better than the UK IMO. :)

    Swedish children learn first a little english from the age of 6. And then all the school years. To learn a foreign language you must first know your own language well, the grammar included…
    Your own language is the most important subjekt in swedish schools. From there all the understanding for all the other subjekts in school starts😊

    There are many artist making music exclusively in swedeish for the swedish marketand theyre doing just fine.
    I think it is more of a language thing.
    About 98% of swedes are speak English.
    Sweden has been the no1 english speaking country in the world thats not native english speakers formost of thepast 20 years.
    I belive The Netherlands is out biggest competitor.
    I think people find it both easer to write in english and I think there is a subconscious "cool factor" in writing in english.
    I know this is weird to a native English speaker but to us, the exact same line that sounds cheezy AF in swedish can sound perfectly fine in English.
    Not to say that profits _nver_ plays a part but I know ALOT of musicians, every single one fo them writs in English.
    Their minds were never on profit, it was passion for the craft.
    Someof them went on to become proffesional musicians but most are just hobby musicians making no money having nointention of going pro and they allstill writein english.
    I write poetry, mostly asan emotional outlet, the vast majority of which Ive never snowm amyome...
    I write in english
    Swedes are also THE most internet active people on the planet, most Swedes actually use English more than Swedish in their daily life.
    English, for anyone under the age of 40, feels as natural as Swedish.
    Disclaimer:
    The statistics I rolled out here are from studies done a couple of year ago and may not be 100% accurate but if the numbers has changed its not but alot and definitely not enough to invalidated my argument.
    EDIT:

    Swedes are a musical people and participate in music choirs, because Sweden has the most music choirs in relation to the Swedish population in the whole world. Then in Sweden we have something called the music school, where students learn music. Also, there are music associations all over Sweden, where bands and solo musicians can practice. So that's why Sweden has overtaken Great Britain in creating music for artists, so Sweden is now 2nd in the world.
