I like the expressions on the faces of other veterans. "What the hell is Segeant Todd doing? Is he going to kill that little civilian? No, he's... holding him. What the fuck?! Oh, well, get back to your stations". You can see there's a lot to learn for them all about being human. It's the little things like that that make movies great.
SPACE RAMBO!... Great flick. as a infantry veteran of the 1/506th and the 1/327th I approve this film. A lot of hidden messages only a ex-infantryman would fully appreciate.
Not just an infantry veteran. This speaks to anyone who has seen combat and come home, only to find that the country you left isn't the one that you returned to. But it's not that the country has changed really, it's that we've changed so much down to our very core that we can't relate to the people around us who aren't veterans. Some of us adapt to living among civilians again. But a lot of us never are able to make a connection with that world again. We stand on the fringes of society, ever vigilant for threats to our community. We protect, we serve because that is who we are. We are tortured guardians, home from war but never free of it. That is a small part of the price of freedom. Sacrificing your humanity so that others never have to know the hell of war. I think that this movie does a good job of showing that. It's not something that a civilian can understand, because they've never had to reintegrate into society. SF

Someone brought up the fact that realistically, most of the soldiers would never get in touch with their human emotions, and that many of them would probably die lonely and misunderstood, but I don't see it that way. I see it like Todd will be the first to slowly discover his emotions and how to be human, and as he learns what it means to be human, he'll teach his fellow soldiers how to love and feel, the same way he lead his fellow soldiers through battle many years ago. It's just a new type of war they'll have to fight, but I believe Todd and his men have what it takes to get in touch with their humanity after a long and challenging process.
When all said and done in the fictional world of soldier if people are going to nitpick at the most stupid things then a good argument for that is they are brothers. They were brought up together do horrible things together and each and everyone know each other even deeper than family. So if Todd is expressing his emotions and he is by crying when they kicked him out, then he can show the others it's okay to love, to learn to get on with other humans. This story is about no matter how brutal you can still be human.
Yep, not only that but those colonists are probably going to be raising families with those soldiers and they'll need not just the warrior skillset but homely skills as well.

Correction. One of the best war films. Our government has attempted to do this to children. It is called the MK program. So has Russia, so has China. They are grown now.
These scenes hit me right in the feelz, the off-world colonists going to a new home having been saved by their warrior. His battle brothers reunited almost about to lose their minds at new emotions and feelings. Then the hope of a new future as the surrogate father and son stare at their approaching destiny. This is what the Bladerunner movies should have more of, they are set in the same universe afterall.
