    I fill our Toothbrush holders (about 1/3) w/scented Epsom salts from Dollar Tree 🌳. The Salts absorb the moisture, keeps it from getting "nasty" & smells nice. I dump, wash/rinse & put fresh salts in every other week 😉. Great tips for efficiency, 😊 Thanks.

    I keep my trash cans lined with newspaper on the bottom (under the bag) to keep them nice and clean. The most I ever have to do is wipe down the outside. It was a tip I saw years ago and it's really helped contain any leaks or spills.

      Great idea! I do something similar for our outdoor trash cans - I pour 2 cups of the most inexpensive Cat litter in the bottom of the can every week after trash pickup. The Cat litter absorbs any liquid at the bottom & helps keep trash odor to a minimum. That's a
      much appreciated perk during the Summer especially in TX, but I do it all yr🙂

    I have found the totally best way to clean my ceiling fan blades without getting the dust all over the room is with an old pillowcase. Just slide the blade into pillowcase and pull towards the end of the blade. All the dust falls into the pillowcase and not on to everything in the room!😉

    I have another tip always get the broom and get under your bed every time you clean your room, just use the broom handle to push anything out and then you will never have anything under your bed, that's how my mom showed me how to do it since I was a kid...hope this helps ❤️

    • @shannonnichols3415
      @shannonnichols3415 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s so funny that you mentioned this because cleaning under my bed is partially why I’m here! We have the most beautiful hardwood floors (prev owners upgraded beautifully!), which I love, but since I’ve never had them in my bedroom I never thought of this as an issue…”dust bunnies”! I’ve only ever had carpet, & of course it got dusty. No big deal, I could just use the dust buster or the vacuum attachment -done!! But now. I can’t sweep or they go flying!
      My question is 2 part:
      1. Effective cleaning under bed
      And
      2. Preventative measures so it’s easier to clean next time!
      I thought about some sort of old sheet because then it’s not too bulky to throw in wash machine but I would love to hear anything anyone else can think of!
      (NOTE: I get the “super duper” a/c hepa filter and I have seen an improvement with less dusting needed, so I don’t think that’s the problem. They just like to go under my bed I guess!

    • @rachelolivas4775
      @rachelolivas4775 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shannonnichols3415 in the case of all the dust bunnies the only really good thing you can do it once a week or so you have to move your bed forward a little because there usually up against the walls and do it with a nice wooden floor cleaner thant way dust won't stick there as much... Hope this helps ❤️

    • @Elemenohpea440

      Cleaning is never a 10 to 15 min. clean. Just cleaning the master bedroom the way she was doing it would take me hrs. I'm older now and I need to take breaks about every 15min. I get overwhelmed then I end up not doing any cleaning done at all.

    For vinyl shower curtain liners, instead of replacing them, you can throw them in the wash with your towels. They will "agitate" the liner and it comes out like new. The towls won't retain the grime, either (as long as you're using HOT water).

    • @RachPlusFive
      @RachPlusFive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much, I’ll try that. The current liner needs to be cleaned. 😊

      I have to do this because when I installed my curved shower rod I went a little too high (because I hate when shower liners hit the bottoms of tubs. Mine is about 2-3" from the bottom). So anytime I buy a shower curtain/liner I have to order from Amazon and pray they have my size. And instead of using bleach, I use vinegar now.

    I find hoover steamvac carpet cleaning machines to be pretty useful on bare floors too since it always puts clean water on the floor and the amount of water it uses cleans up heavy messes and a ton of dirt build up in large areas pretty efficiently. The hoover steamvacs also have spinning brushes on the bottom to scrub stubborn dirt off the floor. I can also use the bissell crosswave to clean up any excess water. Anyone who has pets probably has a terrible time sweeping bare floors with brooms as the hair always sticks to them so I like to use vacuums that are suitable for bare floors and it makes quick work getting all the dry debris and hair off the floor before deep cleaning.

    Many of the disinfecting products do tell you to leave them on for about 10 minutes for them to disinfect, however I notice that the product seems to dry in about 5 minutes, it's almost like they just want you to use up their product quickly.

      Fabric softener isn't flammable. It just degrades flammable retardant fabric such as sleepwear for children. If it was flammable it would start your clothes on fire in the dryer.

    • @RachPlusFive
      @RachPlusFive  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know exactly why it works but it does and makes the whole house smell great. Too many people have pointed out that it’s flammable though so I spot clean with the fabric softener and water. I clean my walls down monthly if not sooner with a mop which gets rid of the softener anyways.

      Murphy's oil soap. Read the instructions for how to dilute. It will clean your real wood without leaving a wax build up, which Pledge type sprays can. Wash the wood with your dampened rag, then have a dry one to dry and buff with after. I have real wood and Murphy's has never let me down. It's also safe for painted surfaces and you can wash floors too. I use it to wash my leather furniture even.

    After using the mop on your cabinets, so you then dry them down ?

    • @RachPlusFive
      @RachPlusFive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t but that’s only with the type of mop I’m using. The O’Cedar can be rung out extremely well and it’s made of a microfiber material so it doesn’t really streak and I use a separate mop head that’s only for my cabinets/walls so I don’t have to really worry about dog hair or dirt.

    • @sherryseher7736
      @sherryseher7736 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rach, I have a Twist and Shout spinner microfiber mop that can be spun pretty dry . I’ll give this a whirl - great idea- thanks !
      On another note , after thoroughly cleaning a shower do you immediately spray anything onto the shower walls and door glass to maintain cleanliness and avoid soap scum buildup ? I always use a squeegee after my shower with no after spray, but some soap scum happens anyway . After cleaning everything and using the squeegee I hate to wet it again with a maintenance spray . Maybe just wait til the next shower and spray after that ( I clean my shower while I am showering myself) .

    • @RachPlusFive
      @RachPlusFive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I clean my shower while I’m in there too. Scrub brush filled with Dawn and vinegar. I also squeegee the glass. There are tons of after shower sprays but I have no personal experience with them. I might look up the top ones though and give it a try.

    • @sherryseher7736
      @sherryseher7736 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried a tip from another TH-camr today . She added to a plastic container with a lid one cup of Dawn and 1/2 cup of baking soda, and mix together . I am keeping that container on the seat of my shower along with a scrub pad . I dabbed the pad into the solution and scrubbed the shower while taking my own shower, then rinsed it all down and used a squeegee. Next time I’ll use an old hand towel to dry everything down after using the squeegee . It worked really well !
