    One of my orchids had lost most of its roots so I put it in a large glass container with Spangler Moss. Much to my surprise instead of having more roots It has a baby. I have another orchid in a glass container that has new roots. I'll be using your method in making my own potting medium for my plants. Pam from SW Oklahoma

    Regarding your orchid at around the 21 1/2 minute mark with … with tiny baby leaves, and the two flower stems… I watched a really great video yesterday of a young lady who showed how to get keikis from spikes after you trim them off your mama plant… And without the use of Keiki paste.
    She wrapped moss around the stems and popped them in a tall glass jar After making sure all the moss was moist. Then she covered the top with Perforated plastic to allow the moisture and warmth to stay in the jar, but still have some circulation and avoid mold. She seriously got keikis after waiting not too long.

    Hi Emaan, I so wish I had your knowledge on orchids, your plants are growing amazingly well. I have just bought another phal orchid which was reduced from £20 to £10, still quite expensive for a reduced price, however I was 'drawn' to try and save her, she only had one flower left but she has has 3 big, healthy leaves and 4 flower stems, which do look healthy and they seem to have little nodes or something on them, am I supposed to cut them off or let them grow because I somehow think they look like they will produce flowers, totally not sure, but I did clean her up and gave her food so I am praying she stays alive and gives me new flowers and more leaves, what do you think? :) my other little orchid that I told you about before (my daughter bought for me) seems to be coming back, she has two tiny new leaves coming out the middle although her leaves are still a bit 'floppy' I am praying she is coming back to life!

      Hello Sumita,
      I read your post and thought I would tell you of my success with Mancozeb fungicide. I simply used 0.6 g of fungicide powder dissolved in 400mL of water as a bath. I lowered the entire root base in it's pot into a slightly larger container so that the entire root area was submerged, and left it for a few minutes, and then removed it to let the pot drain. After ten minutes, I flushed the treated pot with distilled water. This killed off any sign of mycelium very well. Repeating this treatment after 10 days is the recommended procedure. I have been very pleased with the result :) I enjoy these videos very much. It's great to see Emaan bring these poor relics back from the dead! All the best with your fungus issues.

      @@EmaansGarden thanks for asking, Emaan! All of my remaining 5 orchids are doing great: new roots and new leaves, plus 14 new flower buds. But I have to leave them for 2 weeks. I have arranged self-watering for 2 pots, the other 3 will be left with some water at the bottom of the tray. Hope, their roots will not rot 😢

    • @EmaansGarden
      @EmaansGarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sirene 74 my congratulations! I’m very happy for you. Are those flower buds for the first time after purchasing? Probably you are so excited! You can leave your other 3 orchids: take out from their decorative pots, put in some container lava rocks or bricks ( which can absorb water and give up to your pots) or broken pieces of clay pot. Place your pots in the container on top of the lava rock or... Fill in the container with water until it covers the lava rocks but your pots don’t need to sit in water . And leave them. Water your orchids just one day before you leave. That way they don’t rot. Even you can put rocks in the decorative pot, put water and on top place your orchid pot. If you leave water in the pot roots can rot.

      in North facing window too. They are doing great there without any artificial light.
      In water culture orchids don’t grow well ( they grow new roots, you can have and enjoy with the beautiful roots, but the foliage doesn’t grow well) . You can find out if your orchids are happy from their upper leaves. If they are bigger than the previous leaves it means they like the way you are growing. If smaller it means they are lacking in nutrition. You are welcome! Thank you also for watching and commenting.

      +Mona Azar I will answer your question. In the room where I am working now is ( on the ceiling is not artificial light) but on the stand is artificial light. The light comes through the window also, but it doesn’t get those orchids which are on the stand. My plants get the air whenever I open the doors of the living room . And there is also a fan on top of the table. Most of the time we use fan in here. This way they get air. But in other rooms where I grow my orchids there is no fan and we don’t even open the windows. Still they are ok. Some day Im planning to show where I grow my orchids. I don’t grow them in a green house.

    • @EmaansGarden
      @EmaansGarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Renate Roque I wanted to talk in this video about that what you are asking, but I forgot. It is better to keep your orchids as they are. In this kind of situation if they have stem rot, if you change their position now, they can not take it. It would be stress for them. And instead of growing and focusing in growing new babies they will focus in surviving. And keeping in water is not easy also. Because you have to keep your eyes on the plant always. You don’t need to forget to add water when needed. And also you don’t know how those air roots will react to the water. It is better to put those air roots in a medium ( the tip of the roots ( some portion)you direct into the medium ). Your situation is little bit different from those which I showed. I had an orchid which had leaves but with few rot roots. I inserted its aerial roots into the medium. Now it is doing great. You can also spray those aerial roots often. But putting them in the water can decay those roots too. Every root reacts in water differently. Some don’t rot, but some rot. You can try. But spraying is better in your situation( if it is not too much for you and also if you don’t forget).God knows better!

    • @EmaansGarden
      @EmaansGarden  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Padmini Jayakumar don’t use any medium. I mean don’t change the medium. Keep it in it’s own pot and medium. If your orchid doesn’t have leaves and you try disturb it by replanting you will kill it. It can not tolerate. Transplanting will not help. Try to water little by little when the medium is dry. Don’t water too much. Otherwise you will rot the roots to. Wait , it will grow the baby from the roots in 2 months. Don’t put water close to the stem , because you can put water on the baby by mistake. Put water close to the wall of the pot.

But he was able to get what some people would throw out just survive only he didn't water his he just left them sit in those pseudobulbs they have had enough moisture in I guess. What made me think of that is when you said Midway through your video that you don't always get the water

    Question- why do you call new leaf baby’s ? A baby would actually be a whole new baby plant.

    Why don't you put a wick in the bottom part of the pot and let it transfer humidity to the moss (self-water)? This way you can leave those orchids unattended for long time and let them take care of themselves....

    • @EmaansGarden
      @EmaansGarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sirene 74 I didn’t do it at the beginning. And now I don’t wanna disturb them, because they can not take it. It would be too much stress for them. They have to focus in growing new babies now. If I transfer for wick watering I have to disturb them. But some of my orchids I started transferring to the wick watering( healthy ones) . Thank you for your advice!

      @@EmaansGarden I had to arange self-watering for my orchids. I hope, they will not develop any root rot. Their roots are so healthy now....don't want to disturb them either, but I had to do something. I am going on vacation for 2 weeks.

      +Sirene 74 in shaa Alloh they will not rot from wick watering. I have some trash found orchids in wick watering and some of them in wet feet. All are doing great. And even you can water them just the day before you leave and not to worry. 2 weeks is normal for them to stay without watering. Because I water mines ones in 2 weeks.

    My orchid has a flower spike with tiny, sticky clear droplets on it. Also the tip of the spike seems wimpy like all the sap is at that place inside. I don't know what to do to keep it from spreading. I already took a Q-Tip with alcohol and cleaned residue off but it is still coming back through the plant. Have you or your readers seen this before. Help!

      Th you for letting us all know this correct pronunciation 😊😊 Happy summer and happy gardening. We here in France are having the worst heat wave we've ever had since they started recording temperatures about 150 years ago. Keep yr fingers crossed that at the end of it we don't get violent rain storms and hail.
