I finally got to meet him on a random DOT inspection… first thing I did was thank him for all the Dot information I have learned from him. It took all the stress of getting pulled over for inspection. He thanked me for my professionalism and I thanked him for his. He said your vary knowledgeable on Dot and I thanked him for making me that way.

Hoover is a great guy. We are out of Texas and me and my brother in law watch his videos and have learned a lot from him. Tell him to please keep up the great videos. We need a trooper in Texas to do what Hoover does because he helps us out more than he knows. Please tell him thanks from Texas.

Respect is important to all. A professional driver should welcome all the help as a team not we vs them.

Yet another outstanding - if older - video. I can readily identify with Steve... he could well be my brother-in-arms. (I'm sure I told you, but my 2nd career was Deputy Sheriff with the Washoe Co. Sheriff's Office in Reno, NV). I was a 'plank owner' on the departments Traffic section and senior re-constructionist on our Major Accident Investigation Team. I, like Steve, took the attitude of trying to help out a person, rather than find a way to take him to jail. More than once I told A Customer, "I can be your worst nightmare or your best friend. You decide which, and then we'll take it from there."
It's funny, Mike... like you and Steve, I also had a buddy I'd stop by and visit on occasion (use his head... get a cup of coffee, etc.). If I heard, "DON'T look at my truck, OK?", I'd respond with, "No, let's look at the truck so you can fix it now...." (He operated a backhoe and dump truck business).
SO......... the next time you see Steve, you tell him, "I got a subscriber who's a retired Deputy out in Nevada, and he thinks Your almost as cool a cop as He was. Stay safe, Steve. You're a long way away, but I got your back, buddy."

My first OTR job I remember dodging scales because of the junk I was dragging across the country after a very very very close call from a failure while hauling a 68 D7G barely tied down almost took out an innocent vehicle I walked away from that company did custom harvesting for 4 years with experience and safe driving record I got a job with a good company with good well maintained equipment now I own my own rigs (most of them farm use only) but me and my son haul everything from scrap iron from our salvage yard to picking up and delivering stuff people buy on online auctions across the country and if we don't have proper permits we don't move instead of trying to avoid DOT because those cowboy days are over they'll find you avoiding scales (I think they can smell the DEF even though my rigs are old enough not to take that or maybe they track elogs with government satellites for those that don't know I'm joking but actually heard people say they do that I don't believe it) if something on my rig would cause me to not want my family driving near it then it's in the shop even if it's not my shop and I know I massively overpaid someone who knew they could get paid that much and if DOT catches something we missed we thank them and ask where can we get this fixed ASAP 75% of the time all it cost is a repair even if the truck can't leave till it's fixed giving the DOT a hard time just cost you extra because they're doing their job keeping not only the public but you safe as well and I'd rather die running my equipment on the farm not crashing my 79 cabover Pete or my 87 379 with that beautiful long hood those have to go to my kids

Great video! I met a highway patrol the same way. He is super cool and we keep in touch, he could tell I was new at all this stuff and really helped me out. That is one needy dog, LOL. He don't like Officer Hover much, LOL. Most cops are good guys with a difficult job that are just trying to do the job they have been assigned. I feel for them having to deal with entitled moron drivers or criminals who think the rules don't apply to them and don't know how to follow simple directions.

I had a Young DOT Bear stop me in Indiana many many many moons ago in Northern southern Indiana. He came down a on ramp in my blind spot on a on ramp got upset because I didn't see him. Not that I really cared that he was getting on the Highway I was on. He checked my log books, Check my load, and Inspected my truck. Then he found the leaky tire. When he started running water across my inside front drive axle driver side tire. I thanked him for finding this leak asked him it it was ok if I repaired it. He allowed so I fixed the tire, as I fixed it I told him the story of what happened to me a year earlier. I was working as a local driver for a pepsi local delivery company. I was going down a large Bridge when I hit a piece of metal and it blew the Inside Diver side front axle tire blew out. It took out my air lines, power supply line out. It took me a mile to get the truck to stop from 65mph. The trailer emergency spring breaks failed, Plus the company helped me get my CDL. I learned over the next few weeks the Federal and States regulations for Commercial trucks. Then went on a writing complete DOT pretrips and safety inspections of the trucks. I noticed how they were trying to squeak by on repairs. Not just on my trucks and trailers but the whole instate fleet. Then I showed that dot bear my side boxes with my tools. As a mechanic I always repaired trucks completely when I inspected them before I started work on them. After that incident with the tire blowing I knew why it had to be done that way. One time of almost killing someone because of a multiple failure of break chambers and I was hard core on doing complete and full inspections everytime. What I didn't tell you was their was a high volume traffic controlled intersection that was a less than a 1/2 from when I realized I had no breaks. I end up with the trailer supply off and stopping this truck with 80000 lbs and only drive axle breaks behind a Walmart super center. About 6 months later I stopped working for them and reported them to the state Department of Transportation Safety Division. I went to work for JB Hunt, and never again did I ever drive a truck that should have been shut down for safety issues.

What a great guy. Thats what it should be, to help and educate all of us. However here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts, it's all about the $$.
They only want to write tickets.
As one DOT officer told me many years ago. Each officer on the road must write $60,000. Worth of tickets per week.
I don't think education plays into that philosophy.
    Again congrates to common sense.
