This is absolutely hilarious! My bird feeder squirrel problems went away when my new neighbor introduced 2 outdoor cats. They couldn't get to the bird feeder but the squirrels moved on.
While it's amusing to watch futile efforts to deter squirrels, I've always wondered why people don't just embrace the squirrels' presence in the yard and build them a feeder of their own. You did just that. Bravo to you sir!
Loved the idea of the squirrel cafe. I have house sparrows visiting the 4 feeders I have put up in my front yard which were soon noticed by a squirrel too. The squirrel had easy access to all 4. And would devour the feeds faster than the sparrows would. I've now dedicated one of the feeders to the squirrel which is also shared by rose-ringed parakeets. This new feeder has sunflower seeds and the remaining three use foxtail millets meant for sparrows.
In all of your efforts, you actually trained (increasingly complex positive reinforcement) the squirrels to keep attempting your puzzle to receive a reward. It is like training your dog: whistling from you means a treat, then sitting and a whistle earns a treat, then sitting and giving a paw-handshake with a whistle earns a treat, etc.
Bless you for caring for the precious squirrels. They are amazing critters. Keep in mind squirrels don’t eat your food then crap all over your nicely polished car!
You certainly have my appreciation. I have been in a two year battle with a large and cheeky male gray squirrel. He no longer can spill the bird food out of the feeder, so he trashes all of my wife's potted plants. now feed him Squirrel Delight (fruit and shelled nuts) and the birds black sunflower seeds and assorted wild bird seed. He still cleans the ground under their feeder, but can't access it. I'm calling it a draw, but Squirrelo knows he won.
I live in Denmark and Florida. Seeing a Squirrel here in Denmark is as rare as seeing the Auroras in california for Florida. In Chicago I bought a pound of peanuts to feed the squirrels in the park and my friends said I was NUTS!!!

While it's amusing to watch futile efforts to deter squirrels, I've always wondered why people don't just embrace the squirrels' presence in the yard and build them a feeder of their own. You did just that. Bravo to you sir!
Because they destroy my flowers!!!!!
Then you have TWO OR MORE squirrels to feed, I know, I have 8-9 now. They wait for the birds to drop the birdseed to the ground!
Those birds sure dump a lot of seed
Thank you for this amusing, enjoyable story of man vs squirrel. The latter’s antics had me laughing out loud. What an interesting, kind man you are.
You nailed it.
Video : good
Your commentary: better
Your kindness ("as long as I can supply enough food") : best 👌
Very few people like you left. God bless you Sir !
Thank you! 😃
I have a feeder just for squirrels exactly like yours , thank you for caring for all the wildlife
That is awesome!
Bless you for caring for the precious squirrels. They are amazing critters. Keep in mind squirrels don’t eat your food then crap all over your nicely polished car!
You certainly have my appreciation. I have been in a two year battle with a large and
cheeky male gray squirrel. He no longer can spill the bird food out of the feeder, so he
trashes all of my wife's potted plants. now feed him Squirrel Delight (fruit and shelled
nuts) and the birds black sunflower seeds and assorted wild bird seed. He still cleans
the ground under their feeder, but can't access it. I'm calling it a draw, but Squirrelo
knows he won.
Loved watching these videos. Like cats the squirrel's tail seems to let you know how they feel.
I live in Denmark and Florida. Seeing a Squirrel here in Denmark is as rare as seeing the Auroras in california for Florida. In Chicago I bought a pound of peanuts to feed the squirrels in the park and my friends said I was NUTS!!!
I was so glad to see that you made a little feeder for the squirrel as well.
Really good film, well made, great narration
I wish I could give it two thumbs up but one will have to do for now
Thanks for the great comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed your second squirrel video. I kept thinking of the hours of squirrel / bird feeder footage that must go into making it. The hard work paid off! You've got a beautiful production. I kept wondering what is next and liked the gentle cliff hanger of the nuts in the neighbor's yard. It was nice also to see you in the video too.
It turns out that I am 99% retired and sticking close to home, so there was time to do this. Capturing footage was almost a daily exercise. I did learn more at the end about using my Nikon D500 although most was shot on my Canon XF400. Glad that you enjoyed it. How about LIam?
Actually, there is a second young squirrel named EarBite (left earn is partially gone) but I haven't seen him in the Squirrel Cafe.
Absolutely one of the best videos I've ever seen thank you for taking care of the squirrels Eventually feeding them
You are so kind
Lol great stuff
funny little things very smart give him his own feeder,i wish i had a garden or a terrace love to sit in the sun warming my old bones watching the birds 🦅
Whimpy conquered every obstacle with precise strategy, he finally earned his prize, he’s a smart little cookie. He’s adorable. 🧡🐿🧡
They are cute, curious and determined.
Haha found the previous video by accident, and was quite delighted to see this one right after. I ended up turning my back deck into a bird and squirrel buffet for my indoor cats viewing enjoyment, it has brought me many hours of delight as well.
So cute. You gotta love Wimpy's determination. Smart little thing.
We try to short-circuit nature's incredibly amazing balance, and animals find a way to make us restore it, with no words.
I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. I love that squirrel and his determination.
I love squirrels....I used to feed them but bears were tearing down the feeders (same one you built) . Now I can't feed them cause I have at the present 7 cats....sometimes more or less. If I feed them, they are cafes for the cats....Loved your video
Sorry to hear that. Glad you enjoyed the video. We have neighborhood cats, who are interested in the birds. The birds typically signal alarm when a cat comes by.
Congratulations Mr. Cyclotron Physicist ... you've perfected the perpetual squirrel motion machine ! :-D
My mom and dad had feeders for the birds and squirrels on their property. I always enjoyed watching them. Nice video. Fun to watch. A great example of what can be achieved when you “never give up”
At an Estate sale near where I used to live I bought a book titled: 101 ways to outsmart a squirrel attack on your bird feeder....All 101 methods failed and the squirrel continued to distract me from finishing writing my PhD dissertation....eventually we moved and I finished it. Score 1 more for the squirrel!
Lots of fun to watch, thank you so much for this interesting squirrely diversion! Thumbs up, and I wish you all the best!
What's the physicist to do? Just what you' re doing: loving, protecting, nurturing and enjoying them! You' re one of this world's unsung heroes; a human at his best. We fellow animal and bird lovers are almost as much in your debt as the creatures for whom you care, and we thank- you. Blessings always!
I love physicists solving (or creating, depending on your perspective) the little problems in life like these! 😂❤
Glad I saw this after seeing the other vid. I was gonna say, "Just feed your damn squirrel too!" Lol, cus we have a neighborhood one, Chitters, who is happy to leave the crow plate be as long as there are peanuts for her! She takes them from my dd's hand now too. She sometimes even sits on the porch waiting for us. I swear she'll be knocking on the door soon! LOL!
“Crow plate” - 😄
Film her and upload the video!
Yes she will ,I had them get in they can be distructive they belong outside
@@samuelfellows6923 lol, yes, a former cheap Halloween decoration I have been using the past 10 years now for tidbits for the local murder.
Hats off!!! This was entertaining, funny, and informative. Never knew squirrels could be.....well, so squirrely !!!!
1 more thing… Notice the number of people who watched this movie! You should make an update! 1.6 million of us would love to see how this little Houdini had grown up! ☺️
Whimpy lives on. She now drops by the front porch where she is not bothered by her ill tempered son "Dumber".
Thank you for feeding the amazing little squirrel 🐿️ ❤
Physicist: spends summer coming up with different solutions.
Everyone else on the first day: "Honey, get my BB."
I love this. I fed a generation of squirrels in Michigan for ten years. First, you feed the squirrels. Then the birds. Peace!
I haven't come across your channel before, but today it was needed and enjoyed! With your narrative and Wimpy the squirrel's antics, I truly enjoyed your vlog! Keep up the good work and God Bless!
Gotta give him some credit and maybe his own feeder
Whimpy has more wits than old sleepy Joe 😂
Great video story telling! Nicely done!
Those squirrels sure are smart and crafty!
I just loved watching the cleverness of Wimpy. Definitely made me smile. I have a pesky guy as well and he actually lifted the lid of my feeder and sat inside feasting. But the next morning, when I went out to refill, what a surprise I got! A sparrow had gotten itself trapped inside when I went to replace the top of the feeder and burst out to fly away and startle the hell out of me!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really loved this video. Fun and relaxing, and put a big smile on my face the whole time. Your squirrel deterrents remind me of another video where someone put a slinky around the pole so the squirrel couldn't climb up. He of course learned how to jump from a nearby tree instead.
Thank you for making this video! My son is autistic and terrified of all animals, we watched the video together and he kept on repeating "I don't have to be afraid of the squirrel!" Videos like these help me expose him without fear or anxiety, it makes it easier for him to manage when we come across the real thing on our walks 😊
That is the best comment yet. I am so glad it helped your son understand squirrels are not a threat to humans.
Absolutely entertaining. I watched this over and over again...thanks!
Well done. A win win situation, both birds and squirrel are happy.
So is the wife!!!! Lol
3:50 ...LOL 😂🤣
6:42 ...LOL 😂🤣
I've been feeding my Squirrel Scurry for many years....they wait for me to put out their tray of seed..
That is great.
"Physicist Defeated by Brilliant Squirrel". Oh, the irony.
Whimpy..lol..he is the best I'd say so far..great video. I needed the laugh today..now to keep up with the seeds..lol
Glad that you enjoyed it. Squirrels are the best.
@@LyneisFilm "Squirrels are the best."
1) ground the bird feeder with bare copper ground wire wrapped around it.
2) hang the bird feeder by using a nylon zip tie, to hang it from a bare copper wire connected to 110 VAC [ or more if you have a transformer]
3) place a five gallon bucket under bird feeder for collecting squirrels.
4) make sqirrel pot pie, see video th-cam.com/video/zuYKrHx8TvE/w-d-xo.html
Alterate Method
1) simply show video th-cam.com/video/zuYKrHx8TvE/w-d-xo.html to neighborhood squirrels, and they will get the measage...
@@davidhollenshead4892 You are a very sick person.
One must be *NUT'S* to build a bird feeder and a squirrel cafe. 😄
Give this beautiful and so intelligent creature a daily feed too he deserves it he is just as important as any bird out there !
Physicist : I’ll show you how great human physic’s brain and design
Squirrel : I’ll show you who is the boss 😎🐿
lol 😂 absolutely love this brilliant little mind, love your video👍
Awe thank you for including Wimpy into your kindness! I raised baby squirrel and have the softest spot for little guys. They are amazingly smart! ❤
That is a great reply. Thanks
Whenever I see the tail being waved furiously, I am thinking that he is giving you a tongue lashing! 😂
Great experiment , absolutely entertaining.Thankyou , He's no wimmpy
What a great addition to your growing animal feeding garden!!!! Like you, I've become very fond of Wimpy. Being smart is a HUGE TURN ON FOR ME!!!! And Wimpy is a REAL WINNER!!!
Glad you are a Wimpy fan.
I saw this clip about a year ago, and just found it again! Funny, touching and a humbling example that despite our human brain, and your AMAZING INGENUITY, it's hard to defeat a determined squirrel! Thank you for sharing! I hope you continue to!
Well said!
"... I was constantly getting heat from the wife about how this scooge was an ugly scar on her fancy garden."
She took the words right out of my mouth.
2:40 lmao omg i'm dying the lengths these squirrels go man they are so persistent lol god bless
Beautiful! I love how you maintained the peace with animals and your family
Happy wife, happy life.
