And before this was a Value City it was a Kings Department store. My oldest sister worked here when it was Kings & then she went across the street to work at Joann Fabrics at the Plaza before becoming a Nurse. Damn after posting this, it made me realize as much as I hate to say this, I'm old. lol

I lived in Alliance, Ohio for 16 years and I remember going to Value City a lot when I was a kid. I can remember the layout of the store to this day. We used to go to the left front side of the store because that's where the toy section was and I remember buying WWF action figures there, the old LJN rubber figures.

I learned to drive stick shift in this parking lot. It was built in mid 1960's as a King's Department Store.

Saw the Value City shopping cart just inside 2nd.set of doors a rare find. When economy tanked here in 06 Schottenstein family of Columbus,OH.suddenly closed the department stores apparently to save the furniture stores which in better times is more profitable.Strategy must've worked despite the home furnishings business tanking too during the Great Recession.📉💸Had the cash to tough it out throughout that and now are doing pretty good.BTW Brandon below⬇forgot to say I Love this video...💝Happy Valentine's day everybody.

And just down the road, a shooting range. It''s as spooky as my underwear if I don't change it for 5 months. All of the ghosty spooky shit is Duck Hunt playing on an HDMI TV... OOH, 2 SPOOKS.

  • @PaladinLarec

They'd still be around if old man Schottenstein hadn't sold it to Retail Ventures in 2004. They buried the store by trying to compete with Kohls/Target and becoming a high-end/middle-high-end family store instead of the bargain basement welfare store they were good at being. Worked there for 12 years, I saw the sad decline starting in 2004 when they sent their managers a letter telling us they were going "california style". Yeah, that meant getting rid of 90% of the floor workers and trying to make more money by shipping more products. Guess how that worked?
