Fantastic presentation!!! We well remember getting to finally see the cyclorama for the first time, maybe 25 years ago or so......a MONUMENTAL disappointment!!! It was such a sad, underwhelming, experience. None of the life we had heard about was there and we thought surely we'd never have that experience that folks did in the 1800's. So fast forward to the new visitors center and cyclorama display----I think we have seen it three times now and it is, without question, one of the highlights of the Gettysburg experience for us. We can't possibly thank those who performed this incredible work enough. No trip to Gettysburg is complete until you've experienced this amazing work of art.
Very cool vid on this. I pledged money to have this restored and it was gratifying to see my name on the wall in the lobby when I visited at the end of July 2013. It is just such a wonderful piece of history to witness and this vid helps tie it all together. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I miss that old Cyclorama building that they used from 1962 to 2007... To my eye, it is beautiful and brings back nice memories of visiting Gettysburg...
Awesome video! I could spend hours at the Cyclorama just pouring over details in the painting. I especially enjoy visiting in the off season to have that extra time to study it. I remember seeing it in the old building and thinking how cool it was. Then, when it opened in the new visitor's center it was like going from a 1950s TV to modern day 4K high definition. Thank you for sharing the knowledge and history of this magnificent work of art and history!
I thoroughly enjoyed the book on the cyclorama mentioned in this video. It explains in more detail the topics covered here plus more. I highly recommend it!!!! Btw I got my copy at the battlefield visitors center gift shop.
In the 1990's, at the Cyclorama building in Gettysburg, one of the narrators said those haystacks were french huts. And they were put there because the artist had those in his hometown, and that those were the only inaccurate parts of the painting.
Outstanding presentation Ms. Boardman!!! Well done!
Saw it in April 2023. It was breath-taking.
This was a awesome presentation of these paintings. I loved it. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much, Terry!

Has sue written a book on the cycloramas? I'd like to get one if so.
