Why Do I Run an ALUMINUM Bass Boat???

- In this fishing video I talk about why I run an aluminum bass boat. Aluminum bass boats have become more and more popular over the pass few years. With a lot of companies trying their hand at making an aluminum counter part to their more expensive fiber glass bass boats. In this video I review my aluminum bass boat, talk about aluminum bass boats vs fiberglass, talk over some of the upgrades to my aluminum bass boat, and just give a general over view of my experience of running an aluminum boat. Let me know in the comments what your dream bass boat set up is!

Question for everyone! If say you won the powerball tonight what boat and what setup on it would you get and Why? Might ad well throw in what truck to pull it with Money is not a problem.
Mine would be - Crestliner BassHawk 1850 - 200 Merc 4 stroke - double PP - 6” hydraulic jack plate - 2 12” Garmin units with live scope on the front. For the truck...Tesla Cyber truck cause why the fug not 😂👊🏻
@@AlexRuddFishing Vexus AVX 2080 w/ 200 Merc, Dual Poles, HDS live 12 console, HDS live 16 Bow, Dual console, Lowrance Ghost TM. GMC 2500HD Denali pick up.
@@edwardcowan7012 I like this dudes style 👊🏻
Well if I won the lottery it would have to be a 40+ ft freeman lol
@@Mtullos86 I broke my leg in a Freeman...they aren’t all their cracked up to be...ba-doom-tish...I’ll see myself out 😂👊🏻
One year ago this month I purchase the smaller version of your boat, Pro 175 and it's perfect for the shallow Central Florida lakes I fish. Easy to tow, sips gas, fits in the garage and it's affordable. Bought it brand new and so far not any issues.
My Lowe Hustler will be entering it's 42 season this year. It's been everywhere-lakes ponds rivers, and spent several summers on the ocean at Port Aransas. Had it through four generations and haven't sunk it yet!
🙌🏻
I'm so glad you still love the boat. I worried about it due to our history on it. LOL. BTW it's a 21 gal tank but if I remember it's hard to top off. It was wired at the factory and it was the last time I had it done there.
2 of my favorite channels now on one boat... worlds collide!
1976 15' tri-hull MFG Gypsy w/ 70hp outboard Johnson. She gets me everywhere. Nough said
I really love my itty bitty 1436 Jon for the same reasons.
Even my 9.8 outboard is rated to burn a max of 1gal per hour. Which means that when I am cruising at 25mph… I am getting a minimum of 25mpg.
Not to forget the fact that I paid just $500 for the hull and $1000 for the motor.
It will fit almost anywhere a kayak will. Even for push-poling between cypress trees on cypress flats. Or dragging across an oyster bar to get to all of those untouched back places.
That motor looked new but had not run in years when I got it.
Went ahead and threw on new automotive fuel lines, a filter, a pump, and a carb… the ENTIRETY of the fuel system… for less than $300
I’ve had the same aluminum G3 17 since 2002. Yamaha 60 still runs great and I catch as many fish as the guys in the 20 foot glass YACHTS. Only problem is I’ve run out of room for tackle and rod lockers don’t like like 7’+ rods. That being said I’ll always go aluminum!
After several glass boats, I bought my first tin rig about a year ago. I love it. Easy to trailer, launch and load, more storage than any of the glass rigs, and does just about everything well. The only slight disadvantage, it’s not quite as good in rough water. I
We ripped a half a dollar size hole in my cousins big jet boat 2 weeks ago, French Broad River lol the bilge pump barely kept up with it flowing in!!
I bet you two were tight up on the ride back.
@@AlexRuddFishing Dude we kept fishing lmao he was like, is it pumping out?? I was like yeah but its poring in, we fished another 2 hours i'd say lol but luckily it was no Bigger, it pumped it out as fast as it came in we just kept it running 😂🤷🏻
It’s cold out! Glad you made it back safely!
Alex i believe there is a company in florida that can rewire your boat to make your electronics work more efficiently
good information. I just bought a G3 Sportsman 1810 and rigged it out all the way. Love it so far
After owning three fiberglass rigs, I made the transition to aluminum. I couldn't be more satisfied. I run an xpress x17 pro with a 90 yamaha sho. The performance and fishability are outstanding.
I am looking at buying my 1st boat and Xpress is my winner thus far. Have any pros/cons of them? I am looking at the H17 or H18
@rodneystephenson7693 They are great boats. You should make arrangements to take one for a demo ride. Very low maintenance. Only thing I don't like is some of the compartments leak when it rains. NOT totally watertight storage.
Great video. The wind issue is why I got rid of my aluminum boat. If the wind was blowing at the boat ramp it made me look like I had never put a boat on a trailer. Fiberglass is the only way to go for me.
I’ve a X19 Xpress and on my second one and rides as good or better than my Ranger I used to own
Glad I bought used AND OLD....because I redid all my wiring. Seems like even the new stuff needs redoing! Glad you got that figured out...nothing worse than electrical issues on the water
Great video dude. Im glad to be a part of the Aluminum boat nation!!
I was just telling a co-worker about your channel the other day. I am also a teacher, but not to your level on youtube (yet)!! Keep doing what you are doing, I surprisingly have enjoyed more of the sit-down videos, but sorry for the reason why. I'm in West Virginia, would love to link up one day over the summer on your waters!
New to the channel amigo! Had to watch this one because I’m going through the fiberglass vs aluminum debate. Appreciate what you are doing.
I agree with everything you said,,,that’s why I been looking at bass trackers plus I’m looking for a smaller motor 4 stroke around 50 to 70hp ,so Quiet
Happy New Year Alex. Look forward to seeing you healed and back on the water. Appreciate you having more time for videos like this. Thanks for the basic break down between aluminum and glass.
Shelby, the swamp man, has an aluminum boat. that's the boat I want. That's a huge savings in gas and the size and weight and durability makes it even better. Sounds like you and your Dad had a great time with that boat too. Great video man. I'm happy just to have my kayak. That's enought boatyness for me.
Stay in the kayak man! I love my time I spend in mine.
Shelby has the best river boat ever made and it’s indestructible 😂
Your answer should of been (look John Cox is my spirit animal) and then end the video
😂😂😂😂
That dude is my spirit animal 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
My 1999 lowe 17ft 70hp Johnson 13x19 prop runs 40mph all day. 37.5 with 2 people loaded. Aluminum boats are king I dont care what anyone says
depends what you fish
Been running tin for the past 10 years. I do miss glass when I'm on Loudon in the summer and getting beat by wakes. Another electrical issue I have run into is wire guage being too small in aluminum. There isn't a strand of wire in mine that hasn't been replaced.
Agreed!
I really appreciate this video Alex. I'm in the market for a boat, new or used, and videos like this provide great info. I'm leaning towards an aluminum boat, and the info in your video is awesome. Much appreciated man. 🎣👍
Alex, I also have an aluminum boat (Vexus) and I love the aluminum platform. I will say while Vexus is a little more in price it does come with standard equipment like master electrical shutoff and completely sealed boxes. They are great boats but if I had to do it over again I would get the 2080 vs. the 1980 I got. There is only a 4” difference in length but there is a 50 horse power in the motor in capability. I would opt for the bigger horse power every time.
That’s an awesome rig!
I bought a Ranger RB200 with a Merc 150 pro xs! Love it! I also looked at both the Alumicraft and Vexus. The Ranger also has a master power shut off.
Its going to be a few more years before I can get a bass boat, but that Vexus 2080 has me drooling! Good luck with yours! The Vexus is my short list boat when the time comes unless I can get a screamin deal on a different boat.
Alex , Hope you are healing good hope you get back to full soon , enjoy watching you
"Two best days of a boat owners life, the day he buys a boat and the day he sells the boat" LIES!!!!!! lol
“And that is sarcasm” hahaha
Mercury
Man I just hope 1 day I get my chance to own a boat. Just anything with a 9.9(allowed on local lakes) I always fished with my dad in a souped up Lowe. This pandemic has set me back, I'll keep praying I'll get there💯🎣😏 Sweet Boat, Alex!
“I’m sorry I self-promote, & that was sarcasm” 😂 Buddy, aren’t we all lmao Let the haters hate, you keep doing you bro. Also, super groovy to learn you’re in academia! My wife teaches 6th & 7th grade ELA. Much respect to both you and her, over worked and under appreciated is the phrase I believe. Thanks for a good video, good info as a boat is in my not so near future, but IS coming one day nonetheless (whether she realizes it yet or not) and all you do 🙏 Fish On 🤙
I fished out of dads old 18 ft triton Jon boat this summer and can definitely get it places that our fiberglass boat can’t go but I’ve had the old triton out on norris on Saturdays when every wakeboarder in the state was out so it’s pretty tough especially for being nearly 20 years old
That’s when I’m in some creek up some river where no wake boarder dare goes 😂👊🏻
I had a couple days waves were breaking over the bow fishing off shore so it sent me chasing white bass and schooling bass the rest of the summer
Alex.. my friend..I enjoyed the video about the lures that caught a bunch of fish in 2020, and the rods that you are going to use for this upcoming year...I went and bought a new Lew's KVD CC3 rod. Can not wait to try it out. I saw that you had one too... so I had to have one. Had a couple of gift cards... so I paid about 56 bucks for it. Keep doing what you do. Appreciate you.
I wouldn’t trade the cost of owning a bass boat for anything, so worth the cost associated!
Best therapy I can think of... lol!
Hello my name is David I live in South Florida. Your show very Informative Because I'm buying an aluminum bass boat and I don't know which one to choose but I do like your shows And I did subscribe

Should be able to start back watching your videos. I've been gone for a few months as you know since I got back in the army but I've missed all your videos.
Glad to have you back bud!
Good to be back with the rat pack. Did you come out with the logo yet?
You sound exactly like Jason Isbell, voice, speaking patterns, whole 9 yards,
Hey 👋 I'm subscribed and I liked 👍the video on my own. I currently have an 11' v-haul jon boat and when I go to upgrade to a real boat you gave me lots to think about.
What's up bro!! I fish a 2002 Triton Tr20 with a 200hp vmax HPDI. But I've been thinking about buying an aluminum boat.
Props for being a teacher. subbed.
Looking into buying a new 2021 alumacraft pro 185 with a Suzuki 115SS. I would add hydraulic jackplate and dual poles as well. Is the transom beefed up enough to handle that extra weight?
Great video man! I appreciate the honesty and not just a sales pitch. I have a 1993 glass boat with a 115.
Wondering if you have been in a vexus? I am no where near affording one, but the 1980 looks awesome.
I’ve been in a Venus they are really nice rigs.
@@AlexRuddFishing the used market for them is pretty sparse. Tells me people who have bought them are liking the product. Wish we had the fishing show so I could see one in person. Darn Covid!
Great video brother!!
Thanks bud!
Had aluminum my whole life , I feel you . Went with a skeeter , used but pricey I try not think about cost cause my wife will let know when im pretending
I run a g3 sportman 1710 bonus it fits in a standard 20ft garage
Cool!
Grew up in God's country hope to be back there permanently soon. Take time with rehab so you can be strong for spring bite!
How fast is sho 115 Yamaha? Guy on TH-cam got his Mercury XS pro 115(Tracker190/18'6")4 blade prop one notch on transom higher 56.7mph?
Keep up the hard work Alex !!!!
Great info Alex! 👊👊
I’ve always had a tin boat. Have you saw Keith Poche’s new Gator Trax?
I have. It’s an awesome rig.
New Subscriber! Great video, will be checking out your other ones, I'm in Frankfort Kentucky!
Great informative video 👍🏻🎣
Any thoughts on the bass tracker xl classic for a first time bass boat? I would rather get something brand new with warranty and a smaller rig to learn how to take care of a boat.
I’ve never been in one. They look like nice boats though.
I had one and kept it for a year. Then sold it and got the tracker 195. The classic is a nice boat but once you get more experience you will desire more.
Alex,
A great video. How about a round number it took to fit this boat to it’s current state? I assume because it was the Fluke Masters boat there was a degree of fitting already done vs a bone stock model.
New wiring, couple batteries, 100 hour maintenance, master power switch, and few more odds and ends probably around $750-1k
Alex,
Thanks for the response, not a bad number I was thinking big money. I am sure a major benefit of owning a tin boat is less insurance cost vs the big buck glass boats. That is also an operating savings, plus the lighter boat does not beat up your truck as much.
Maybe you mention it later in the video, but did you swap the seats out on this??
I did. It was part of the deal when I bought they boat.
"...and that is sarcasm" - HAHAHA I laughed hard at that for some reason. Loving the beard barn , represent!
Thanks brother! I’ll have a video about the beard barn soon!
Hey alex love ur vids,i went on tw to buy the lews smash combo with ur code but they didnt have the combo only separate pieces, wat goves brotha
I put in the description of the video that was the case. The combo can only be bought through certain retail stores.
you know the meaning of the word boat is break out another thousand
Big facts 👆🏻

Hey Alex i just bought a 2021 Tracker 190. I do a lot of night fishing and i've noticed that the inside of my rod locker lids and middle storage lid sweats a lot. Do you have any trouble with yours? Or would you have any ideas on how to prevent this..
Thanks...
Yes I do. Especially in warmer months. I always bring my boat home in the summer and open the boxes and sit a box fan on my back deck and point it toward the boxes.
You should look into vexus....I had a lowe and switched...it rides like glass
Don’t really have 50k just laying about 😂👊🏻
@@AlexRuddFishing the 189 is mid 30s tournament load
@Dustin Lind 2021 189 with 115 and a fortrex trolling motor on average starts at $29,000 after I add two PP, jack plate, graphs, upgrade the trolling motor, pay for installation, and taxes on it all, its right back up to 50k.

Everybody who provides worthwhile content on a regular basis opens or closes with "IF you like what I'm doing, please subscribe, like, etc..." And if ya don't, you click somewhere else and move on. But generally speaking, if I find myself watching a TH-camr for the 3rd or 4th time, I subscribe, and hit the bell, and (try to remember to) hit the like button on each episode. 😆
TH-cam is one of the few sources of content available for viewing that is free. We pay for cable, we're paying for the ability to go on the web, Netflix, Disney+, etc... 🤨It's a simple enough concept... subs make it worth your while to bother to keep providing content. And time is money, stuff costs money, but some people think that everything is, or should be, free.
Humans... whatta ya gonna do? 🤷🏻♂️
*BIG* facts 👆🏻 I’ll be totally honest it’s not the subs. That number means absolutely nothing. I just *LOVE* fishing, making content, and to be a value add to someone’s life.
