Wonderful videos, Jim!! At the SPAC, Saratoga Springs, NY, concert, James told us that this song is based on losing his dear friend, John Belushi. He explained that John's death scared him straight, and that he then vowed to change his own ways. In the song, he mentions John and Saturday night, and I never knew the connection before. It makes the song so much more poignant. And our dear James is still going strong, to the joy of all of us.😀🤠💙🎼🎵🎤🎸🎻🎹
I love James...I really hope he's OK. I've noticed a bit of shaking in his hands over the last few years that has become more pronounced now. Watch his left fretting hand starting at the 8:06 mark through about 8:31...he even has some trouble navigating a few chords (or remembering them?..). He sounds great anyway and playing these tours probably keeps him in the best shape possible as a musician and vocalist. Thank you so much for kindly uploading this string of videos. Like James himself, they are excellent...
He injured his finger right before a South American tour a few years ago & had to be guitarless during those shows. Did you start to notice it before or after that?
@@martingardner9124 It was happening before that and occasionally happens to this day. It's evident in a LOT of TH-cam videos (I just gave one example...). It's OK: he's 74 yrs. old now....Fortunately, it hasn't compromised his guitar playing at all. In fact, he's playing the best guitar of his career right now. If his playing in Guitar Lesson # 8 ( Joni Mitchell's "All I Want") fails to convince you of this, I direct you to his arrangement of "Over The Rainbow", featured on the "American Standard" EP and on the Amazon-only expanded edition of "American Standard." That song is, by far, the most challenging arrangement and most difficult piece of guitar playing James has ever recorded. I completed a note-for-note tab of this song (and many others) and it's just incredible....
Bittersweet to see the concert moments coming my way in San Diego on Nov 1st. I know it's too much to ask for TH-camrs to refrain from publishing on the road concert footage before the tour is over but, times have changed haven't they?
@@AnnieBe65 They mostly are but sometimes the order will change. I went in Chicago and this one was a few songs later in the set - That's Why I'm Here was second at that one. The last chunk before the encores hasn't changed too much I don't think. I was pissed because in Chicago You've Got a Friend was skipped out - Otherwise I've never seen him skip it in 16 years of going. I want to go again in St. Paul - I had plans but they fell through.
@@AnnieBe65 Dorian Holley. He toured with James in '94 (I have a recording of a Boston show from '94 that he's on doing the Shower the People solo). He filled in for Arnold McCuller in February '19 when Phil Collins did his tour down under. Arnold however did return for the last part of the tour + Vegas/Tanglewood so since then it's been both (though if they're both there Arnold does the Shower the People solo).

They aren't playing the same sets in every city. I was at this concert and saw footage from another one with different songs.
They certainly have!

Anyone know who the backup singers are? Inquiring minds wanna know!
Henry Taylor, Arnold McCuller, Kate Markowitz, Andrea Zohn, and I think I'm forgetting someone.
