I think this was the first thing I ever lifted from Michael.

Spherical is one of my favorite solos.
Mike played many "perfect" solos in his career where every note is perfectly placed. "Spherical" is one of them.
Even when they are not "perfect", they are Perfect (like that famous one with the WDR in wich he misses the altissimo note and then smiles, and then...;)

@@bobreynoldsThank you, brother! 🤙
Any good tech for looping like that for android??
Anytune
Thank you for doing this video! Like so many I'm a huge Brecker fan. Michael's first solo record changed my listening from rock and some jazz to mainly jazz. BTW, I'm the one you spoke to at GUMF at the club on the last night.
Keep it coming.... Love the channel and your music. 60bpm
Thanks for the idea ;) Was great talking with you
This morning I told myself: lets find a good analys of some Brecker solo. Who posted overnight? Bob's the man!!
Bob, thank you! I had a teacher give me a copy of steps ahead: smoking in the pit, and paradox. It turned me upside down for a bit, but I wore that tape out. Changed the way I listen to saxophone.
Brecker forever❤
Return of Brecker Bros was the album that got me into their music, appreciate the video Bob!
Same!
Same! 😁
I’m glad this was the first video i found before i began incessantly doomscrolling to procrastinate practicing. It gave me the motivation i need to pick up the horn just watching you get excited about the brecker brothers!
Thank you Bob for passing on your volumes of knowledge-you are a great teacher and performer!!
When I heard this for the first time - just bought the cassette(!) being an exchange student in St. Louis/MO, then 16 yrs. old and with my tenor - I transcribed this part as well by ear. Without any knowledge or concept of jazz theory really - I just loved to listen to and play it (my host family was not that much into jazz, though 🙂). Didn't become a professional musician and didn't play for three decades at all. Anyhow, this record is a soulmate of mine. Thanks for playing it.
Love that!
Exchange year memories never stop to come back. Glad you have fond memories. Yfu or afs?
@@sleepdoctor09 Neither. I don't remember the organization's name, all I still know is that it was based in St. Charles, MO (which I do remember because I ended up in St. Louis, MO).
I’ve also been listening to this solo since high school, a little over 20 years for me. It’s crazy how timeless it is.
Oh, man although that recording wasn't there, I did see him do In A Sentimental Mood live, on the EWI, during the North Sea Jazz Festival. What a treat!
Have you gone over Bob Mintzer and the Yellow Jackets? I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on them.
Sounding great with that moutpiece!
Thanks much!
Yes indeed, Bob, in spite of M Brecker’s otherworldly chops it was his melodicism that always got me the most! He really showed it off on his pop stuff like ‘Still Crazy After..’ and ‘Maxine’ (Fagen) or some Brecker Bros like ‘Creature of Many Faces’ and ‘Straphangin’ (at 1:56) th-cam.com/video/Z8k8G9PdMsk/w-d-xo.html - amazing!
Cool that you’re digging into The Return of the Brecker Bros! My wife and I saw that band at The Village Gate(?) in NYC in 1992 and it was like from another planet. They could generate musical energy beyond what we thought was humanly possible!
What app were you using?
Bob! I've been listening to a live recording of you with Terreon Gully on Spotify for weeks now... great timing!
Amazing stuff, man. Love hearing your thought process! Thank you!!
How about a VLOG with Randy Brecker as a guest?
Man I love Spherical so much, and Return of the Brecker Bros is one of my favorites! 🙌🙌🙌
this was dope, thank you!
That music with Gully...and is that Ben Williams? Yikes😨😊!
Carry on🏋🏾♀️
Yes, that’s Ben Williams

Bob what mouthpiece and reed are you on.
This is an in-joke, isn't it?

Great stuff man!
I checked RAndys line actually we go from Eb7 to B(Maj)7 to Bb7. So I bVI (Maj I think) V7, So you r thinking Ebmin7 over Eb7 and Abmin7 over BMaj and Ebmin over Bb7? kind of in that sense?
Anybody know what app he's using for the transcription? Shown at 5:10

@@bobreynolds thanks so much!
and the 2nd phrase (1:40)i think is actually starting on Bb7#5 going to Bmin...but the principle with a DMaj 1235 "pattern" works great on both chords. anyways thanks 4 sharing. great stuff!
you have an audio or video of that gig? amazing videos bob!!!
