Prosper cheerleader damages spinal cord in tumbling accident

- Family friends say while the prognosis is not good for Makayla Noble, 16, they are praying for a miracle.
"Mack is such a bright light, she was she's such a lover and a giver," said Tiffany Smith, family friend.
Noble had a freak tumbling accident Monday night, which damaged her spinal cord.
"Medically speaking, her prognosis is not what we would hope for, her report is not one that we would want for her. But McKayla loves Jesus and she serves a big God. And we are believing totally that that she's going to have a miracle," Smith said.
Makayla has been cheering for most of her life and training multiple days a week, Smith said.
"Makayla is a world class athlete. She's trained by the best of the best SCA. This was a freak accident in somebody's backyard. This was not a cheer practice. This wasn't on a mat with a coach," Smith said.

The teen has already gone through at least one surgery at Medical City Plano. But according to her family, so far medically, the chances of her walking again are slim. The family has asked for prayers for pain management and for movement to return in her fingers and hands.
"One of the last things she said to her mom before she went into surgery was one, God's got a plan. And we totally believe that. We trust in that," Smith said.
The prognosis is still early. But for now, Makayla is expected to be at the hospital at least through next week and then undergo a long rehab plan after that.
"It looks like probably a 12 to 18-month plan in terms of rehab and recovery," Smith said.
But support for the noble family from Prosper ISD and the cheer community has been remarkable. Online fundraising brought in more than $50,000 in less than 24 hours for the family’s expenses.
There will be a show of support for Makayla and her family at the homecoming parade and pep rally on Wednesday night and supporters are asked to wear purple for Makayla at the football game Friday.
The Prosper community is rallying around a cheerleader who was seriously injured in a tumbling accident.

This young lady really stole my attention just with her upbeat and never quit personality. She took all this in stride. She just keeps smiling. How can you not want to help a young lady like this. That damn sure didn't deserve it. But damn sure has spent time bitching and moaning about this hand life has dealt her. She just took it and is learning to win with it. Good luck Kayla! God Bless!!

Your story popped up on my feed for whatever reason tonight and it touched my life. I have a daughter that is 16 and looks a lot like you, so it immediately made me think of her and how hard it would be to see her seriously hurt in anyway.
I could never imagine everything you are going through and to see you in high spirits is very encouraging. I’m sure that there is so much we don’t see that is incredibly hard and I can honestly tell you that you will be in my prayers.
I hope you won’t be offended but I was just reading the scripture below and it immediately came to mind. I believe in a God that still heals and I will continue to pray that he lays his healing hands on you and one day you’ll be able to give him glory for restoring you.

Nobody has ever recovered from a C-6 break w/spinal cord damage like hers. Just like amputees: god never heals them. Her only hope is medical technology.
@@TheBeingReal Agreed. I have a C5/6 level of injury and that was 11 years ago. I don’t expect I will ever walk again. I am lucky to have full bowel and bladder function and my hands work quite well so I’m good. Plus I have a supportive husband.

I do not like the advance cheerleading moves. It it to dangerous.
I don't know why these athletes are exempt from wearing any kind of protective gear. They fly around in the air totally unprotected. I mean, compare them to football players, whose bodies never even leave the ground!
What good will a helmet or shoulder pads do if a cheerleader falls from 10 feet in the air and lands wrong?

There's always risks to being a cheerleader, like there's risks in being a football player, race car driver, boxer, and many other activities.
This injury is unfortunate and my prayers are out for her and her family.
It's scary because as much as this is true, there are risks in anything. You could get hit by a drunk driver just walking outside your house and that could paralyze you
Actually this freak accident didn’t happen to her while cheerleading. If you listen to the video you would know.
@@NobodyUndefined I was gonna say the same thing. One could even mis-step on on a sidewalk, and then break an ankle. It's a risk that comes with being alive.

My daughter is 5'2 and 97 lbs.. they wanted her to be a flyer. Omg. I'm so glad I listened to my instincts. Cheer is dangerous. Cheer is allowing a teen to spot you.. that's too big of a risk for me.. I can't imagine. No no no no.. I'm not allowing a few young teens to catch my baby

Nibbie, yes, some activities are more dangerous than others, however…driving is the most dangerous of all!
My son is paralyzed from chest down from an accident in 2018, and the stories we heard while away in a specialty rehab were craaaazy! One of the girls who was injured was in a hammock when the tree literally broke and fell on her - and she suffered a spinal cord injury.
Lots of car accidents, lots of diving into lakes accidents, football and basketball accidents, etc.
You would not believe, I was shocked to hear these random stories and of course they all happen to very young people which is truly tragic.
My point: gotta live life with a reasonable modicum of care and PRAY.

ughhh i hope mak is ok me and her went to the same gym a long time ago she was on cheetahs then you know she just grew up mak just know the whole gym is praying for you and some of the girls wrote you some letters and this comp i just went to people were selling shirts for you to hope you get better!!!! i love you mak!!!

@@daliab8493 you cant count on anybody to catch you in a back yard and yes they do have spotters in gymnastics. also it's because they have spotters that that makes it not a sport?

Oh man. I took a bad fall a decade back in HS and luckily it was not this severe, though the lasting effects and physical therapy will stay with me. Her channel really touched me with her positive outlook and the closenit relationship of her mom and sister. Praying for her as she recovers and shifting my perspective towards gratitude 💗

I used to tumble cheer when I was younger and as soon as I saw another girl's arm snap in half the opposite direction like a twig I was like nahhhh. I also landed on my head/neck once and luckily was ok but it made realize the risk wasn't worth it.

It's funny how it is called a freak accident and no one, ever once speculates, that people should not be "tumbling" through the air. I am not sure what "cheering" is or why it is so important. By the way, this football she "cheers" also causes similar paralyzing accidents on a regular basis. There was that guy Eric LeGrande at Rutgers for example. Both of these "sports" should be banned.
