Loot will be good when we have crafting. It's the driver of every MMO. The big reward at the end is a giant box of Magnetized Disconfabulator Bulbs that are super rare and required for building high-output solar panels.
Guys, EVE exists. We don’t have to make it complicated. The long term solution to loot is convenient staging. The reason you want more currency is to have more copies of your favorite load outs (both fps and ship.) The endgame isn’t get 1 Carrack, it’s get 15 and have them staged where you want them, with the load out you prefer. We don’t need stats and silly things. Just some way of acquiring raw materials and/or currency without… just all the tedium. We already have magic beams for lots of things in the game. Give us a “it’s definitely not the looting beam, it’s the… de-engraming-beam” that “breaks down” the raw materials of all things we find into the base crafting materials (just canisters, like ship repair.)
Other than a future crafting system being implemented, I'd like to see some credits as loot. So pirates and npcs only gather items, food, and equipment? I just found it weird how the only monetary value is what you find to sell or through contracts.
I would visit an empty, abandoned station to gather data. Who lived there, why did they leave, and what did they leave behind? Like coordinates to ressources, processing data for refineries, AI Blades, Lore.... I really don't like the idea of lootboxes, but yes, everyone does it, so SC might do it. Just leaving this here for the algorithm.
There needs to be a larger range or weapons added in that you just can't buy. High tier weapons with higher accuracy, fire rate and mod compatibility. For the way this looks, they need to Tarkov the weapons and make finding more a thing, which means removing ALOT of weapons from the stores. Same with ship components
That's basically what they did several patches ago. Removed large weapons like sniper rifles, LMG's, rail guns, and grenade/missile launchers from stores, so you can only get them by looting. Sidearms, SMG's, and rifles can be bought in stores. But yeah, they need to keep moving more in that direction. Some special/upgraded ship components that can only be earned through rep grinding or rare loot drops would be really nice.
One of the things I hope to see is rare items that are used for construction, equipment, or possibly even upgrading components of ships. With base building being something projected to be released by CIG in the "near" future, it would make sense that very rare components will be needed for things like base defenses, super computers, or machinery needed for things like a base refinery. Perhaps some of these components could also be found in the open world in abandoned stations. Likewise the same could apply to personal equipment, such as maybe a component that could make your FPS radar a little more effective, or perhaps a way for a tractor beam to have more range and lift more weight. All these items could be loot-only to make them incredibly valuable, but also not a necessity to function for our existing tools and equipment. They could also have wear and tear apply to them, creating a constant and consistent need/desire for these items making them always valuable to players. If applied to ships, this could be another "step" added to the upgrading of our ships. These upgrade components could do things like make your thrusters 15% more efficient, or output 5% more force, make your ship harder to hack, make weapons do 10% more damage/penetrate further, or even make engineering systems more resiliant. These types of things would also make Post-combat scavaging even more important, or even result in an economic tie between combat and non-combat players, as these items could also be used to make mining lasers more effective, or salvage more efficient. This would create a system rather similar to how Black Desert Online ties Lifeskill players with combat players, where the lifeskill players could occasionally find a "shard" that would be used for enhancing gear.
I personally do not like the idea of essential industrial components being found in loot - sounds like a silly kind of universe that lacks believability. CIG's announced plan of outpost blueprints being acquired from mission givers is similarly bad. For personal items it's more doable from that perspective.
Crafting and reputation are the two big progression pillars along with base building and your ship fleet and gear. Subscriber flair items will be slightly more interesting once there are no more wipes and a proper auction house or trading system in place. Finding a Star Kitten helmet could be something valuable to sell, but even better in my opinion is finding a blue print to craft a Star Kitten helmet. It also makes more sense as items are lost and (hopefully) damaged/destroyed over time. It also solves having to bring a box around to carry gear that you find in. Many variations and directions they could go with blueprints, but it's important to have sinks related to them to remove UEC and resources from the game steadily. As for reputation you could find items that could be turned in for reputation. Or you could do research at a location to aquire data that could be traded in for reputation. That way you could have a reason to do more exploration when doing your mission for UEC at a distribution center or even be "farming" the location for rep items to either turn in or maybe sell to other players. As new systems are added there will always be new organizations to farm rep with and it seems to me like a great way to reward players who want to play a lot for their time investment. Like 40+ exalted reps achievement in WoW back in the day. I just want them to steal good ideas from WoW and other mmo's and implement them already. I personally don't care about realism, but even with that constraint there are so many good paths they can go down. I like the idea of "Tokens" as you talk about as well, super flexible and easy to implement.
there are a ton of bugs with loot right now because they are building off the old 3.18 in to parrallel development so 4.0 i assume is polished feautres and bug smashing while stanton is small and has everything to test in one star system Pyro most likley will have everything crafted from guns ammo to furniture and house walls. (destuctable bases with malstrom would also allow for primitives to be fabricated to area design with we justy need soil sand and lava

I would also do uec credits and cash. Some vendors who buy/sell illegal goods only use cash.
Adding physical currency would make the game so cool, great idea we should make petition for it.

Loot the Loot Box.. Make so you can just take the box that the loot is in! 🤯

Easy, just add same itemization as POE.
