0:45 I love moments like this.. the moment Jackie starts talking Ritchie's face drops as he knows Junior's criticism is coming. These gangsters were children on the schoolyard.
Folks saying the writers were careless in letting Jackie Jr accompany Richie to this meeting might be forgetting that the writers nailed everything with this show. This scene wasn’t the writers’ carelessness, it was their foreshadowing of how Richie’s own carelessness would bring him down. Richie’s constant inability to rationalize things properly (and in the process dispensing with some of the mafia’s norms) would continue getting him in jams. That’s apparent from his bringing Jackie Junior - perhaps an associate at this point and albeit the son of the former boss - who was not a made guy to this discussion of a potential coup against the current boss of the family. Richie’s carelessness and Junior’s hold over Richie by not specifically calling out Richie’s faults (like other folks do) is in full display as Junior dismisses Jackie Junior the moment he speaks but doesn’t tell Richie that he messed up by bringing JJ. Unlike Richie, from just receiving a brief recap of the captains’ feedback to the potential coup, Junior immediately assesses the landscape - the other captains not going along with Richie wasn’t out of fear but stemmed from their lack of respect for him. Those other captains were willing to follow Tony, a hot headed selfish guy who for all his faults still believed in la costa nostra. Richie’s carelessness didn’t allow him to read those cues and Junior, once again maintaining his hold over Richie, takes a patriarchal stance (“You’re a good boy Richie”) but doesnt say a word or school Richie about his folly. Junior sends Richie home without providing any insight. That lack of insight and the constant failure to read the cues plague Richie right until his demise in a situation where he once again, failed to read the cues and acted carelessly; taunting an angry and hysterical gun-toting Janice.

1:03 - Junior "We got to screw our courage to the post" Straight out of Shakespeare's Macbeth. Lady Macbeth, "We fail! But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we'll not fail!" She was trying to persuade Macbeth to kill Duncan, the king of Scotland. Similar to the plot to kill Tony, the king of this crime family. David Chase did his homework. Sopranos fans - go read some Shakespeare. Incredible stories, great prose, and memorable plots.
"Can't even wear his shoes" lmfao. Junior was one crazy old dude. Love him. Liked how he readdressed it as "we" as I think he thought of Bobby as a son.
Richie is just as impatient as Jackie Jr. to gain power. He’s been in the can 15 years, he back earning, he’s smashing the boss’s sister, and yet he can’t rest where he is a while, he’s tryna be boss. Meanwhile Jackie Jr wants to be made boss too. Jackie Sr was the only chill one in the April’s family
"We best off with?" I love how Junior is looking out for Bobby as his right hand man. He helps to have the muscle, but after a while, it seemed that Junior gave a damn about Bobby.
20 years ago when I first watched this show, I had no respect for Junior and thought he was pointless, probably how he got played in Season1 by Tony into believing he was the boss. Rewatching now, I see him as one of the smartest players in the game
I never understood why Jackie Jr was allowed at these meetings, seems unrealistic. He wasn't made and he was barely an associate. Yet he's listening in on a plan to take out a boss? No way
I truly think that everyone would have had much more respect if Jackie Jr actually graduated Rutgers and did some good for himself away from the group. Or maybe go the Michael Corleone route and join the military.
"Who's that speakin' here, is somebody speakin'?! Moron "do you know who my father was" Jackie Jr thinking he's really something. Junior just told him to STFU. Tony really did try to keep Jackie Jr out of things, but it 's the curse of blood money.
This show was groundbreaking. Talk about paving the way for so many others shows that followed. Without the sopranos and its brilliant anti villain character a lot of the hit shows that came afterwards would cease to exist. Like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Dexter, Ozark, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, etc.
Hmmm I’d say it was 50/50 it was love for Tony but also a business decision….lets not ignore HAD Richie got others on board to turn on Tony Junior wouldnt have hesitated to part take in that, but because Richie failed to convince others to do so, Junior knew he was best off with Tony. It’s honestly messed up, I’m not denying Junior loved Tony. But deep down Junior wanted Tony out, it was just easier said than done
That is what is great about the show. A lot of it is between the lines. You have to read the expressions the actors give and the subtext to their decisions and motives. A weaker show would have spell it out for someone by having Bobby confess his regrets to a priest or ask Tony not to. But the Sopranos is one of the only shows that trusts in it's audiences intelligence.
From Google: What does screw your courage to the post mean? Screw Your Courage To The Sticking Place': Phrase Meaning “Screw your courage to the sticking place” is an idiom from Shakespeare's play Macbeth. The idiom simply means be firm and resolute and don't lose your courage.
"Who's that speaking here ? Is somebody speaking ? " LOL I love Junior . Low key best character on the show. I love all of his intrigues and machinations . The writers should have been pistol whipped for making him go senile. SMH
Bobby was a true soldier.....he heard Junior talk about killing Tony more than once....but when he moved over to Tony's crew....he never mentioned it......Bobby was a weird guy....but he played his cards close.
Jackie may have had a much different story line if Ritchie stayed alive...Jackie would have prob screwed that up too...Jackie really played the part well of the entitled nephew/son with the connected gangster father/ uncle well in north NJ...I knew so may of these guys who said do you know who my father or uncle is....He nailed that part so well...
It just cracks me up how well it was done from a wardrobe standpoint... Richie was in prison for 10 years and when he got out he still dressed like an 80's gangster... Played out shirts and I think in a few episodes he even wore a "members only" coat... pretty brilliant..
I think we dont realize this is how a lot of the best gangsters think, organized or not, "they weigh their alliances with who can do the most for them down the road, not juust for one score or situation. Why would I not be surprised if Tony Sirocco(Paulie) who himself was at one time a hood, maybe he advised david chase or the writer to add this in. This is too pristine for a regular writer to pick up all those nuances. However fellas, this is what gets guys in this type of life killed. They make a choice, then a war breaks out like in the donnie brasco movie, and you cant just jump to who is stronger or you look like a traitor. so sometimes if you pick the weaker side strong arm wise, you die. When John Gotti took power, he was nice about it and let all pauls people come over to his side....because he was smart, it served him well not to have a war. This was possibly Juniors finest moment on the show.I love it " richie couldnt convince him. He gets no respect. But Tony......" Shows you he would have whacked his nephew if ritchie was the better bet.

Its funny as old skool as richie was why did he bring the pipsqueak? I guess he’s different with relatives lol
Jaegar Ultima tru although he never said it maybe he WANTED to groom Jackie Jr i mean at that point who was left to represent the Aprile name but those two?
Plus its just one more thing that Richie could be against Tony about. Had richie lived longed and got ally boys approval?
Tony would have been wiped off da map and Jackie jr most likely would move up in the game shiiit maybe even Richie’s own chrissy moltisanti in a few years ahhaha
How in the blue fuck was Bobby allowed in the mafia in the first place?
Majin Mexican his father was a hitman. he was played by burt young in 1 or 2 episodes in season 3 or 4
"He couldn't fuckin' sell it." I love that line.
This was a pretty awesome scene, seeing Junior think out loud about who to side with. I was in awe too.
Who's that speaking here? Is somebody speaking? 👍😂😂 basically saying you ain't shit
Jackie "my father" Aprile
Jason: Potential? They almost killed us.
Lorraine : Jason, men are talking here.

i wonder when Richie was going to finally start to realize that it's not the best idea to bring Jackie Jr. along on important meetings.
GreekSinger2009 .......great point. Richie Aprile and Ralph Cifaretto both took Jackie along on Family business and both ended up dead.
Richie only lived a few weeks after this.
It shows you how unliked Richie was, that no Made guys would back him up in his beefs. Basically the whole point of the scene lol.
He figured that out when he was with Furio and Chrissy
Junior was so wise and experienced in that game. He was thinking multiple moves ahead like in chess
Bobby: 0.0
Junior: What are you looking at?
Bobby: That sandwich.
MJSpiritual 😂😂😂
Junior
hahahaha you kill me bro

MJSpiritual I’m in aur of you

Dunstin Checksin 🤣🤣🤣. I’m at work and genuinely laughed out loud at that. Thank you!
1:03 - Junior "We got to screw our courage to the post"
Straight out of Shakespeare's Macbeth.
"Who am I best off with? Richie couldn't sell it and he's not respected, but Tony never had the makings of a varsity athlete"
"Can't even wear his shoes" lmfao. Junior was one crazy old dude. Love him. Liked how he readdressed it as "we" as I think he thought of Bobby as a son.
Haha. i love junior and bobby moments. usually ends with junior looking at bobby like "wtf. and this is the guy protecting me?"
Little Lord Fuck Pants just didn't know when to keep quiet. But Junior was able to put him in his place.
Junior " who's that speaking " LOL 🤣😂 he had some of the funniest lines throughout the show
I love Junior's reaction to Bobby's 'I'm in awe of you!' I don't know what that look says, but it's hilarious to me.
The fact that Ritchie brought along Jackie Jr to meet the Boss says a lot why Junior chose Tony over Aprile.😂
Junior and Bobby together are just hilarious.
"We best off with?"
I love how Junior is looking out for Bobby as his right hand man. He helps to have the muscle, but after a while, it seemed that Junior gave a damn about Bobby.
YaowBucketHEAD I always thought the “we” referred to the family as a whole, the business
@wall8080 you know what, you're probably right.
Shows that I know _oogatz._ 🤌
Love the 1950's kitchen and wallpaper
20 years ago when I first watched this show, I had no respect for Junior and thought he was pointless, probably how he got played in Season1 by Tony into believing he was the boss. Rewatching now, I see him as one of the smartest players in the game
It's 10pm, do you know who my father was?
Golfer? U.S. Open?
I told you last night no!
I never understood why Jackie Jr was allowed at these meetings, seems unrealistic. He wasn't made and he was barely an associate. Yet he's listening in on a plan to take out a boss? No way
“Pay attention! You just may learn something here”
Me: I’m not gonna watch sopranos clips today
Me, 11 hours later: 0:16
0:52 always get me 😂😂😂😂😂
1:55 little detail I didn’t notice. Junior goes from “I” to “we” which I think shows how much he loved Bobby and considered him untouchable
I swear Jackie jr.’s reply to everything is something to do with his father haha.
Out of respect to my father ! Is that all he can ever say
Well he can also ask if you knew who his father was
@@idklol4197 the golfer?..us open.?
😂😂😂
I truly think that everyone would have had much more respect if Jackie Jr actually graduated Rutgers and did some good for himself away from the group. Or maybe go the Michael Corleone route and join the military.
Lol. "I'm in awe of you.."
Bobby knew how to sell it. Juniors ego...
Fucking guy is fearless for his size, That's nice then what he fucking dies, I can't ever wear his shoes
Gotta love the comedy team of Junior and Bobby!
- I have friends in federal holding who...
- He was a great friend of my father... my father, my father, and my father ...
They have junior’s house down to a t. The interior of the houses in Belleville looked just like that. Chase did his homework.
richie to junior: "no you didnt fucking "knew it" - I JUST FUCKING TOLD YOU"
Junior did a fantastic job of playing Matt Helm.
Janice could sell it, and she sold it Richie.
put my dinneh on the table, and keep ya mouth shut.
"Who's that speakin' here, is somebody speakin'?! Moron "do you know who my father was" Jackie Jr thinking he's really something. Junior just told him to STFU. Tony really did try to keep Jackie Jr out of things, but it 's the curse of blood money.
"He fucking dies and I can't even wear his shoes."
This show was groundbreaking. Talk about paving the way for so many others shows that followed. Without the sopranos and its brilliant anti villain character a lot of the hit shows that came afterwards would cease to exist. Like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Dexter, Ozark, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, etc.
you know Dexter was running at the same time right?
Bobby...of all the Sopranos characters why did he seem innocent in some way? Great actors...
Bobby "I'm in arrhh of you" LOL
Nah you missed that "I'm an OREO"
gd129 Brilliant ;)
Lol pretty much my thoughts
Murrican's trying to speak English.:D
gd129 I’m an aura of you
I like how Junior pretends to be on Ritchie’s side but ultimately helps Tony at the end, he really did love his nephew.
Swing and a miss. He literally just said that he's better off with Tony, like him or not.wow....
“We’ve gotta screw our courage to the post.” LOL.
Who speaking here, Is somebody speaking?...LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣
That is what is great about the show. A lot of it is between the lines. You have to read the expressions the actors give and the subtext to their decisions and motives. A weaker show would have spell it out for someone by having Bobby confess his regrets to a priest or ask Tony not to. But the Sopranos is one of the only shows that trusts in it's audiences intelligence.
Bobby is my favorite, he's so sweet, he's a devoted husband a dad he just happens to also be a criminal lol
I love how jr totally ignores Jackie lmao!
_Very allegorical_
From Google:
What does screw your courage to the post mean?
Screw Your Courage To The Sticking Place': Phrase Meaning
“Screw your courage to the sticking place” is an idiom from Shakespeare's play Macbeth. The idiom simply means be firm and resolute and don't lose your courage.
Jackie Jr got brutally roasted here
"Who's that speaking here ? Is somebody speaking ? " LOL I love Junior . Low key best character on the show. I love all of his intrigues and machinations . The writers should have been pistol whipped for making him go senile. SMH
Hyman Roth always takes care of his partners.
or letting Livia outsmart him, lost all cred right there.
Bobby was a true soldier.....he heard Junior talk about killing Tony more than once....but when he moved over to Tony's crew....he never mentioned it......Bobby was a weird guy....but he played his cards close.
2:23 bobby looking at Junior like hes a snack lol
Maybe he's a flambe
Jackie may have had a much different story line if Ritchie stayed alive...Jackie would have prob screwed that up too...Jackie really played the part well of the entitled nephew/son with the connected gangster father/ uncle well in north NJ...I knew so may of these guys who said do you know who my father or uncle is....He nailed that part so well...
I couldn't stand the spoiled little prick. Props to Jason Cerbone.
"then what? he fucking dies? i can't even wear his shoes" hahaha
I love Richie's 'god admnit' look away when Jackie starts talking
In this case, Richie didnt have the the makings of a Varsity Athlete.. LOL
LOL. Ritchie would up being served as roast beef at Satriolis.
I work in politics we do this shit all the time lol.
John Gotti was smart. Right.
