- In preparation for the opening of his August 1970 Las Vegas engagement, Elvis, his band and orchestra undertook two stage rehearsals. The first took place on 7 August in front of MGM's cameras and film crew during production of the upcoming movie chronicling the upcoming engagement and Elvis preparations for it. The second would take place three days later during the afternoon of 10 August just hours before Elvis took to the stage on opening night of a fifty nine show engagement.
Elvis began both stage rehearsals with renditions of a new addition to his setlist, a contemporary cover of one of the most famous pop songs of all time, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling. Small portions of this 7 August version was included in the movie with Elvis first entering the stage wearing his iconic red shirt immortalised on many a promotional poster for the movie, The version from the second stage rehearsal on 10 August was given an official release in 1980 on the Elvis Aron Presley silver box set and was the second track amongst the Las Vegas years selection.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!

I saw his rehearsal outfit in London at the Elvis exhibition last week. The man had so much style and unique presence. Hard to believe this was 54 years ago. Sometimes when I'm watching these videos I have to remind myself he's been gone a very long time. But I keep waiting for something new to turn up. Looking forward to Baz's documentary/concert film when it's released. How lucky are we that Baz is such a huge fan and is meticulous about representing Elvis to us ❤

did rehearsals like this continue into his later career? it seems like they are all having fun but somehow it feels like that slowly went away with each passing year and slowly become just another show to get through
I know they did rehearsals in Vegas in 1972 and 73. In 74 they rehearsed in a studio in California before going into his august/september engagement in Las Vegas. But after that it more or less died out rehearsal-wise. He did a weak almost non existent rehearsal in the beginning of 1976. But after that I think he just went into auto pilot.
I read that the last 2 years the Tcb Band only met him when he was on stage, and when new songs was added to the live set, Band members were just sent tapes and told to rehearse the new songs on their own.
Elvis just didn't care any more as his shows still sold out, the fans came anyway, and his best wasn't required anymore.
