    The maker has such a great sense of aesthetics. Nice to see someone doing something unique that looks great.

    Thank you for placing the video of Ukulele Uff on the written review. I listened to it several times and enjoyed watching it very much. It's amazing how such a small instrument can also be so expressive. That's what happens when things are built with care and professionalism. Wonderful! 😃🎶

    Great review and an interesting instrument. It does sound like something coming out of my old 1954 Zenith Trans Oceanic radio! I like it!

    It has character! I think it's just meant to be fun. It would be fun to play sitting around a campfire with the fam, etc.

    I really do like the look of it more than the tone and would possibly get one except for the tuners. I agree with you. Much rather see peg tuners on something this small.

    Very interesting little instrument. I’ve just spent Lockdown making my first ukulele. It’s taken ages and I’ve had numerous problems to overcome as I’ve no power tools. Believe me this Uke isn’t expensive when you put in an hourly rate. On minimum wage I recon my Uke cost £1000 and it still isn’t perfect. Thanks Barry. Keep up the good work.

      Quite - people often mis understand worth when they look at the cost of hand made stuff!

  • @curlykoa6814

    In my opinion all ukulele versions should have peg tuners, im quite surprised that for this price he put plastic nut and saddle as opposed to nubone, bone or tusq, i bet it would enhance the sound, looking cute, would buy it for a beginner kid if it was $100 cheaper haha, again a great review!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree on small scales - less of an issue for me on tenors and above as they don't stand out. Don't personally find the differences between plastic and bone all that great on small scales myself. Plus don't think Bone would ever feature for Marco and his eco credentials.

    Another great review Barry. Gorgeous little sopranino by the very talent Marco. I would hope the tone would grow on me. In your opinion, are the spaces between frets more playable than other well known sopraninos on the market? Many thanks. Best wishes.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably one of the most spacious sopraninos I ever played! Bear in mind fret space is the lesser issue - space across strings is where the issues are really based - this is WIDE!

    This sounds like it would be perfect for some Queen songs that Brian uses the ukulele for also some songs from the Pretty. Odd. Album by PATD because that album has such a unique sound......definitely going on my list of ukuleles😊

    It looks like the way it was built surrounding the top is kind of a resonator kind of like how a banjo is resonated.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep kinda. Certainly has that effect on tone!

  • @MrGrahawk
    @MrGrahawk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My question is what is the point? It's a lot to pay for a holiday ukulele. Otherwise you can use a soprano and sound much better.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I said I’d use it as a holiday uke. That’s not the design intention. Seen a lot of people say they want one for the old timey banjo sound. I think there are lots of points. ‘Better’ or ‘different’ I guess. I recognise it won’t suit all though.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, but a soprano doesn’t fit in a cabin bag for UK airlines!

    • @MrGrahawk

    This is so cute huhu. Expensive tho!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Expensive compared to stuff made on factory lines in China where people are paid little. Not really expensive at all for several hours of work by one man in a workshop in Italy. Plus materials.

  • @cecicestmoi

    is it an optical illusion of the design, or does it appear to have high string action?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Must be an illusion as the setup is perfect. Height at the 12th is 2.5mm.

  • @martinowen6527
    @martinowen6527 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd like to see this style but in a bigger scale.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He makes ukes in all scales - I think the whole point of this design was to specifically be small scale. Suspect this build type would be too heavy for a larger uke

    It looks so lovely, and the craftsmanship is spectacular, but that tone... At first, I was like, haha that's crazy! But by the time you got to fingerpicking, I just wanted you to stop! I'm afraid the tone is decidedly not for me. What a shame.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Weirdly, the more I play it the more i like it! Very old timey - almost banjo

      @@GotAUkulele I can definitely see it, it does sound a bit like a banjo. But it really started grating on my nerves. Weird because I actually enjoy banjos. Maybe headache is to blame? I'll try some other time, see if I change my mind.

      Sopraninos have been around for years. No real reason. Does there need to be one?
      Plus you get to see things like this th-cam.com/video/WlMVx8jUZi8/w-d-xo.html

      GotAUkulele That clip is remarkable, ok, agreed. I just wouldn’t be tempted myself-. With the other sizes I can kind of find reasons to prefer one over the other in given contexts. Soprano- portable but still playable if I’m travelling, concert - best all-rounder, tenor-perhaps best for certain folky or classical type finger picked songs. I just can’t imagine saying to myself ‘What I really need for this song is a sopranino.’ But fine, to each his own.
