Yeah but Rayah Marshal (underrated) and that Ivy League crew have been better than the Notre Dame cast. Also, Notre Dame hasn’t had a healthy roster for much of the season and still have road wins over UCONN and Tennessee. IMO, Juju is still the pick by a hair but team success isn’t exactly a fair metric without some level of context.

I love both of these young ladies but fair is fair and stats and Impact don't lie.
Hannah is a 5’6 shutdown point guard leading the nation in steals. Set the record for the most points in a season by a freshman in the ACC. Notre Dame knocked off #5 V.Tech tonight. Lead by Hannah with 23 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals. Juju and Hannah are the first and second ranked freshmen in the nation. Juju has been spectacular this season, second leading scorer in the nation behind Caitlin Clark. And that 51 she dropped on Stanford…WOW! Scored in double figures in every game this season, including 12 games with 30+ points, which surpassed USC legend Cheryl Miller. For me it’s a coin flip, you can’t go wrong with either one. I'm an ND fan but have to give the edge to Juju right now because of of her Top 5 wins vs. UCLA and Stanford, especially the 51 point game. This is a tough call. I'd call it a coin-flip. They play different roles on their respective teams and that creates some contrast. JuJu averages more scoring per game (28.2 to 23.7). Hidalgo averages more assists (5.5/game to 3.4/game). Hidalgo, at 5'6, surprisingly is close to JuJu, at 6''2, on rebounding (7.0/game to 6.2/game). Hidalgo shoots a higher percentage from the floor (45.9% to 41.6%). They are nearly identical from 3 point territory. Hidalgo leads the nation in steals (for all players, not just freshman). That is a bright-line stat that gets attention. On the other hand, Hidalgo is ND's point guard. The whole offense runs through her every night, and she has replaced an injured All-American (Olivia Miles) without missing a beat. If there was every a time for co-FOTY this might be it. All that said, JuJu and Hidalgo are clearly the two best freshman in the women's game. Both a joy to watch. They are both great players, each with particular strengths. Hannah Hidalgo averages 3 fewer points per game than Juju Watkins, but Hannah's defense is hugely impressive. As you pointed out, Hannah averages 5 steals a game, and that counts for a lot. Also, as you pointed out, she has more assists than Juju. I do think Juju might be a more consistent scorer on a game-by-game basis (Hannah only got 10 points recently against NC State, for example). As far as comparing Juju to Caitlin Clark in her freshman year, Caitlin averaged 7.1 assists her first year, versus Juju's 3.3, and I think that is a big difference. Clark has always been a national leader in the assists throughout her college career and I don't see Juju quite living up to that yet. All things being equal, I lean towards Hidalgo as rookie of the year. I would say this even if USC goes farther than Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament, because tournament success depends on an entire team, not just a star player.
@@mujanayi64Dude, did you even bother to watch the video? It was the video that brought up Caitlin Clark, and which compares her freshman year to Juju Watkins.. I was responding to that.
Both have had phenomenal Freshwomen seasons. USC's strength of schedule is 7th in the country compared to 34 for Notre Dame. Given that stat alone, I say Ju Ju gets the FOY award, however an equally strong case can be made for Hidalgo, who ranks nationally in Points, Assists and steals. How about Co- FOY.
For the all american team they dont consider positions. Juju could make it but its tough with the competition. I think it will be CC Brink Reese Hildago Juju or paige
It's tough. JuJu is top shelf. But Hannah is a menace on both sides of the ball. She gives you zero rest. I think I might lean towards JuJu but I'd chose to watch Hannah over her any day. Which one of these women transfer to SC?
Why would Hidalgo ever want to transfer to SC. I’m sorry but ND is guard U. Ivey has developed Skylar Diggins, Kayla McBride, Jewell Lloyd, Arike Ogumbuwale, Marina Mabrey, Lindsay Allen etc. Dawn Staley has had decent guard play but no one with the production of NDs guards. Dawn was able to take advantage of the transfer portal this past year. SC has had better post recruiting. You’re not transferring from a program like ND to SC. ND has better academics (not even close), more final fours, and tied for National Championships, and a richer tradition. Niele is just starting her journey and building us back up from 2020.
IMHO......JuJu is the 2nd best player i women college B-Ball. Long term I think she will be best, I think she has the higher ceiling.(reason being: unique for women she can not only play thur contact, she will seek contact)
JuJu is not better than Elizabeth Kittley or Brink. I think she’s in the top 5 conversation but when you look into the numbers she is not the second best player in the women’s game.
Why can't they be CO-Freshmen of the Year ??? If those two are clearly above all the rest of their classmates, yet incredibly close mirror images of each other, why not share the award?
Probably not but same time she is 2nd best shoot guard as Clark number 1. They will prob go 3 guards or call JuJu a fwd. Off top of my head Brink, Reese , JuJu, CC & HH

You mentioning Catlin Clark already shows your bias.
@@mujanayi64Dude, did you even bother to watch the video? It was the video that brought up Caitlin Clark, and which compares her freshman year to Juju Watkins.. I was responding to that.
I’m team Juju but, I’m cool with both for the honors. Hannah’s hustle and production can’t be ignored at her height.
I am good with co foy
Juju Watkins Deserves it more She's Been Balling this year
Clearly both have "been balling" this year.
The 2022 class is looking like it’ll surpass the legendary 2020 class
crazy good this class
For the all american team they dont consider positions. Juju could make it but its tough with the competition.
I think it will be
CC
Brink
Reese
Hildago
Juju or paige
It's tough. JuJu is top shelf. But Hannah is a menace on both sides of the ball. She gives you zero rest. I think I might lean towards JuJu but I'd chose to watch Hannah over her any day. Which one of these women transfer to SC?
Would also be curious to see how many HD steals lead to baskets. She picks a pocket and then just hauls ass in transition. It's scary.
Hannah or co-foty.. Hannah 1st team
I am a UConn fan and love Shade , but JuJu has had the better year
Meanwhile @ Iowa State……
Why can't they be CO-Freshmen of the Year ??? If those two are clearly above all the rest of their classmates, yet incredibly close mirror images of each other, why not share the award?
Agreed
Let them both go to the pros. They are ready now
Madison booker and Audi crooks let's put their name on it too
Juju❤
Juju 2nd team? Ain’t no way
Probably not but same time she is 2nd best shoot guard as Clark number 1. They will prob go 3 guards or call JuJu a fwd. Off top of my head Brink, Reese , JuJu, CC & HH
Juju
