Hello Ana! 🎉 absolutely loved this one. I'm also a 1980s baby and am an ESL teacher living in south America. I'm a big fan of yours and this was such a breath of fresh air down on memory lane. So cool. Brilliant! Your a star Ana and a great inspiration on so many levels you would not imagine 😊

Before going into a little more detail, let me tell you Anna how much I loved the podcast once again. You're a wonderful interviewer and interlocutor! You're attentive, poised and very gentle, and your wealth of expression is a joy for anyone who knows how to listen. It's rich in both form and substance. I loved your guest, whom I didn't know and for the same reasons, and he made me want to visit his channel. I like Martin's calmness, his style and expression.
In terms of substance and your interest in the evolution of the city center, you make a pragmatic and factual observation of the evolution of consumer society and lifestyles in England since say 2 or 3 decades, and I have to say that, obviously, this evolution is in every way similar here in France, of course, and globalization obliges. There's a certain nostalgia for a bygone world which emerges from it and that, being a little older than the two of you, I also feel. My only little drawback, 'mon petit bémol' is that you describe these changes very well, but you're hardly critical (not Rock 'N' Roll enough precisely could I say maybe ;-) of this globalization and, let's face it, americanization of the society in my humble opinion much more for the worse than for the better and what it's bringing about in societal, sociological, ecological and environmental terms. In some way, you're simply making a passive, almost fatalistic observation. For the citizen and consumer that we are, there are aspects that may seem positive on the surface, very practical and even ideal in some respects, but, in the background, behind the scenes if you like, in my opinion and in reality, very great dramas are being played out and deleterious on so many things. Maybe I'll comment on that later, because otherwise I'm going to be too long again.
Many thanks to both of you for this wonderful podcast, this beautiful exchange which is both very lively and very soothing. You both go well together and it it was a very enjoyable moment. In terms of language, the sometimes 'challenging' flow for me and especially due to vocabulary and brand names that are new to me, I've learned a lot. Thank you! Thanks a lot Martin and don't worry for your long hair, your look is pretty cool! ;-) Too bad you don't tickle the guitar a bit, or maybe you do ... I can just see you playing some Led Zep or some Pink Floyd, the best ever!
Thank you so much Anna for having Martin on, you're the very best my lovely. I Love you 😘🌹🙏❤

    こういった会話はとても英語の勉強に良いです。
    でも、日本では、難しいので、誰も聞き取れないかも、字幕があるのでとても助かっています。

45:01 You really had me there. This particular anecdote Anna made me laugh so much. I could picture your son, Jacob I guess, running in out of blue performing a knee-slide across the room, then jumping onto the couch and performing air guitar ... Hahaha 😂 Future new Angus?... Fantastic !
And well, if kids of this age can still appreciate and become crazy at a good Rock piece, I tell to myself that maybe all is not lost regarding music, at least the one on-trend...
    Excellent! 🎸🤘❤

    Hi Anna!
I've just listened to your podcast and by the way it was fantastic.
You know that the same things that happened there, they happened in Argentina as well. Many shops closed down after the pandemic, prices rose and keep on rising everyday. Very sad😢,life's chaged a lot .

Thanks the both of you for this amazing converstion! It was so rad! I'm the same age of you, more or less, so I felt that kind of nostalgia listening to you! PS You could put out another full episode just explaining the advanced vocabulary you have used during your chat 🙏

Thanks for clearing up what "high street" means. I’ve definitely heard it before but the phrase is meaningless to us in the states.

Most of mediterranean countries have as we call it, "Wine (Alcohol) Culture", we drink at a deliberate slow pace to be tipsy enough feeling the bliss for hours without ever being up the spout. Hang over the day after is pretty much frowned upon; a sign you haven't learnt yet. Wine is introduced to us by our parents in family gatherings and they themselves pour wine thinned with water in our glasses in our early teen years so we can deal with the venom and not being poisoned in the attempt.

As someone who lived in Italy for two years , I agree with you.
However, as a non-drinker, I didn't always enjoy wine in the afternoon and drank so as not to upset my host .
