As someone who has struggled with overcoming addiction, ive always thought of "the beast of darkness" as the perfect analogy for how addiction takes hold in people. It resides in a deep, dark place, always ready to take control and destroy your life to get what it wants. I'm going to get a Berserk inspirered tattoo at some point, to remind myself of my own beast of darkness, and how ive overcome it. This series changed my life for the better, thank you Miura.
@Kintaro Congratulations on overcoming your addiction my mom suffered through addiction herself and me and my siblings helped her through it, it wasn't easy and many years were shed but she's been clean for over ten years now. I say get the tattoo and keep on pushing through.
You’re exactly right, like addiction the beast will feel good in the moment but will hurt you down the road. You’re so right about how it waits always at your weakest moment to attack
Not gonna lie man, your videos have inspired me to re-read berserk from the beginning and there are so many pages that could be posters with how beautiful they are. Excellent video as usual! Keep it up!
The almightyloli youtube channel has a huge berserk compilation that goes through the whole comic. It's amazing. I watched the movies, but the comic has so much more information and storyline
@@WizardWheezy it’s “comics explained”. I’m just going off voice similarities I could be wrong but if I am the other guy is just as good and informative.
These Berserk videos wouldn’t be complete without talking about the very armor that’s so awesome it matches the one who wields it. The armor itself was called a “fetish of dwarven design” by Schierke and it houses the memories (or despair?) of the last one who wore it: The Skull Knight. Skull Knight warned Guts that the more he wore the armor the more the armor would take from him in terms of his senses (taste, sight, touch, etc) plus the shaking that results as well. Another problem is that the wearer could get lost in the fierce flow of Od to the point where you would literally lose yourself in the darkness of the astral world. The end result is blood loss (seeing as the armor bites into the wearer’s flesh and bones) and possible death. Aside from the side effects, the armor is extremely durable as well as boosts the wearer’s speed and power. That matched with the Dragonslayer sword makes Guts pretty much unstoppable. It would be astonishing when and if we get to see Guts use both against the Five Demons but specifically Griffith.
@@dontworryaboutit5490 Yeah unless Guts gets a few power ups or something else... He cannot match Griffen. His team cannot - unless Moon Light Child does something wild. It would be cool if the dwarves? Who made the armor upgraded it. Could start with it actually protecting him instead of just basically doing reconstructive surgery on his bones! I don't understand or even know if it actually heals/mends his bones or just sets them in place. Or acts as scaffolding... Or as an exoskeleton. You can put broken bones back into place all you want but without them being actually mended it is useless. Sorry for the tangent. Femto is a god who can manipulate space and has God knows what other powers. I forsee a betrayal and Griffin being powdered down - enough for Guts to fight him.
The berserker armor is a great example of what miura meant when he said berserk is a thousand year story; he does an amazing job writing characters and their back stories that everyone is very fleshed out and something like the berserker armor and dragon slayer don’t feel like plot armor but well earned weapons by guts
While Guts is swinging at Griffith on Elfhelm and fails to damage him, except for cutting a single strand of hair. It seems like a call back to their duel when Guts left the Band of the Hawk where after he broke his sword, he cut a single strand of hair before stopping his sword right above Griffith's Shoulder. Not entirely sure if it was meant to be some sort of call back or reference, but it could be that Griffith was toying with Guts to the point that all he would allow guts to do was to cut a single strand of his hair again.
Or perhaps, it could be a foreshadowing of what is to come: Guts would be able to fight Griffith but at the last seconds, hesitates (perhaps) because of Falcon of Lights vessel being Guts son ie: cutting a single strand of hair
Fun fact berserker we're often high on amanita muscaria aka fly agaric aka Christmas presents aka Mario mushrooms. One of the symptoms of "overdose" is intense salivation to the point of looking like a rabid animal.
I have a strange feeling that either guts is going to be some kind of descendent of skull knight and Griffith is a descendent of skull knights lover, or causality is going to say this same cycle will always repeat because skull nights lover looks wayyyy too much like Griffith to be nothing
Fun fact on real-life Berserkers from Scandinavia. The reason for this trance like state, foaming at the mouth, borderline insane behaviour, was because right before a big battle they would get sky-high on psychedelic mushrooms. Imagine that, a ultra violent hyped up murder machine off his balls on acid. Yeah, no shit they were scary.
Not going to lie I was a bit surprised when the armor didn't activate when guts saw Griffith in recent chapters.... But I do agree with Marvelous Videos on one point; I think Rickert will be very important to Griffiths downfall as he was the only one post rebirth to lay a literal hand on Griffith. Since dragonslayer could only touch a single hair on his head, that makes that slap very important!
I think Griffith has to be consciously aware to use his god like abilities. Griffith in his ego tripping arrogance couldn’t even fathom rickert denying him let alone striking him. Which I think will lead to Griffiths eventual downfall is because again he thinks himself too great to fail.
In the research that I did a couple of years ago I found that there's actually a 3rd class of Berserkers who wore boars heads instead of wolves or bears. Also berserker can mean either bear shirt or skin. I generally prefer the term skin because shirt just sounds odd to me & evokes a vastly different imagery lol.
Poor Guts. I was legit sad when I saw how frail he looked outside of the armor. It's a sad analogy for Dr. Kentaro Miura's failing heart due to his obsession with pushing forward the completion of Berserk. Fame was Miura's life draining armor. RIP
How... How did the Magna kill him quicker? I don't understand the comparison... Man was in poor health sadly. I'm terminally ill myself unless I get a liver and kidney transplant... Yet writing a Magna would not be especially hard on my heart. Anyway I am not a Magna fan. Yet Berserk 1997 got me into the lore and I just recently found out he passed. Such a shame too - he truly built a great story with complex themes. RIP.
I thought the black "wolf" was actually a black dog. Because guts is a "mad dog" he's been compared to a rabid dog by casca before so I figured it was foreshadowing to his beast of darkness.
I’m fairly new to Berserk so this is all cool as shit to me. I find the dichotomy between Griffith and Guts to be fascinating. Guts is our protagonist yet his biggest strength manifests as black, jagged and menacing looking armor. When he fights in it he’s a feral monster. Yet all the while his intentions are for the most part good in nature. Then you have Griffith who is presented as almost angelic, graceful and “good” yet he is literally the scum of all evil. Like if you show this story to someone that doesn’t know about the eclipse they would honestly assume Guts is the villain.
I remember in a Documentary which coincides with the taking of drugs before battle and country to popular belief they where lean tall men and the Tribes where mainly farmers....
0:57 as far as i know it was not in his head the eclipse was first then i think his friend that is currently continuing his manga had the idea and told him about it not fully sure because i heard it a while back.
The berserker Vikings ate psilocybin mushrooms in a lot of cases and prolly other compounds to achieve this state, I believe. One of the more popular theories, and pretty cool to think that Guts is tripping balls while ripping demons apart, sadly it's(the armor) killing him and mushrooms do not kill you...
Its a shame what they did to Rock Lee he should have become an end game taijutsu master like guy sensai. Fifth Hokage was like this homey don't need to be no ninja he gon die out here.
Induced mania is the way of the berserker, if they couldn't come back they would tear all of the muscles in their bodies from the bone and die on the field.
Hm... it would be ironic if Guts was presented with a Crimson Behelet at the virge of total physical and mental collapse and was offered a chance at revenge in exchange for replacing Griffith has the fifth finger.
I will have to re-read the manga. I thought the armor didn't grant strength, but allowed the wearer to continue battling despite the injuries on the body.
