    My standalone series brain can’t fathom how much work has to go into writing trilogies/long series like…. So much brain power to make sure all things line up throughout the book. Fantastic video as always and congrats again on reaching 4k subs!!

      @@namefaceageirrelevant it is definitely expensive, I purchased a course before in a similar range and it has a lot of value but it is definitely not in everyone’s price range! - I highly recommend checking out some of reedsy’s other learning courses that are free on their website! hey mik! could you make a video in the same style, but covering series of books that deal with different couples? I'm afraid of writing a series like this and not being consistent with the timeline or conflicts, even individual ones. I'm afraid, because I've read several series like this and I've been disappointed throughout the books, because previous characters (who already have their books) don't seem to act in accordance with the personality previously imposed on them.

      @@LouisaCCastillo hello! I personally haven’t written any standalone series so I don’t think I’d feel comfortable “teaching” it BUT I can analyze a standalone series and talk about it that way 🥰 I can add it to my list!

    There’s also the option of more standalone style series, like most romance and cozy mystery series, where there’s not really an overarching story but all these little stories happen in a larger universe.

    Hi, do you think you could do a breakdown for a series longer than 3 books? For example, my series is looking like 7/8 books. I think that’s harder so I would really appreciate it!!

    It seems I am far off 3-act structure trying to write kudzu plot masterpiece and when I will finish it then I will cut into smaller books and try to sell it. I feel like I chose the path of perpetual torment while in my ravenous hatred I found no peace. (quote from Doom)

    Good video, but I disagree on your 4 book structure. The three act structure clean divides into 4 quarters. So, the a quartet-series would have this structure: Book 1 (Act 1), Book 2 (Act 2A), Book 3 (Act 2B), and Book 4 (Act 3). Each quarter has it's own "flavor" so it doesn't make sense that Book 2 would straddle both Act 1 & 2 when it doesn't have to. It can be much better divided cleanly down the quarter line.

    • @mikwrites
      @mikwrites  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly thought I did do that but looking at the graphic I highlighted wrong 😂 but what’s great about structure and writing is everything is just a suggestion! There are real no hard and fast rules it’s truly what works for you and your story 💗

    Using this, How would you organize a seven book series like Harry Potter or 12 book series or 20 book series??

    • @mikwrites
      @mikwrites  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I haven't written a series that long, but as someone who has read book series that long I would say it honestly depends. In Harry Potter for example there is a promise of Harry defeating Lord Voldemort at some point, so that is what we are building up to. Each book there is a particular goal but for the overarching storyline we are seeing Voldemort get more powerful as Harry does as well.
      I think it depends on if your entire series is leading up to one. big. event. than each book still has it's own structure but they are building blocks instead of pieces of a larger structure. each block getting us closer to that final destination.
      OR it could be a series of goals that the characters are completing than maybe books 1-3 have an overarching storyline that then gets resolved but a new conflict appears and that gets tackled in 4-6, then I would use this same type of structure if I was outlining a series that big.
